Chapter 300: Where Are The Guards?
Chapter 300: Where Are The Guards?
None of us slept that night. Not even Wang Chang Ming was willing to close his eyes. He fought sleep with every breath of his being until the sun rose, and his tiny body finally gave out.
The adults ate snacks and played board games for the rest of the night. Rip completely beat us at Monopoly while Bin An Sha and Ye Yao Zu battled it out at poker. Apparently, cuddling with me for a night was on the table, and neither man was willing to back down.
Si Dong just smirked because while they were playing poker to see who got me, he was cuddling with me and Wang Chang Ming on the couch.
I think at some point in time, we must have all dozed off because, suddenly, there came a pounding at our door.
"Open it up! We know you are in there! Open it up!"
Bin An Sha raised an eyebrow as he pulled out his knife and went to open the door.
I had to scoff at the look on his face. If it was me and someone was screaming at me to open up, I would have hidden under the bed until they went away.
Him? He considered it just another morning.
"Yes?" he asked, pulling open the door only wide enough for his body to completely block the opening. "Can I help you? Are you injured? Do you need a doctor?"
Whoever was on the other side of the door paused. "Doctor Bin?" asked the voice tentatively.
"Yes?" smiled my man; however, the hand hidden behind the door continuously twirled the knife, adjusting the gripe constantly. This was his tell that he was pissed, even I knew that by now.
"Sorry, we must have the wrong place. We are looking for Zhao Jun Jie and Wu Bai Hee?"
Bin An Sha chuckled. "I can understand that. They are right next doors, after all." He leaned forward just enough to stick his head out in the hall and pointed to the left. "Right there."
"Thank you. And sorry about that," murmured the man, and I could only imagine just how embarrassed he had to be at this moment.
"Not a problem. My door is always open to those who need help."
With those parting words, he closed the door and relocked it. "Wrong address," he smiled at all of us as if it wasn’t that big of a deal. "However, there is an angry mob outside in the hall right now, so we should just spend the day in here."
He continued to speak as if it wasn’t that big of a deal as he lit one of the Bunsen burners we had in the kitchen and placed a kettle full of water onto it.
"Mud water, anyone?"
-----
The pounding on the door woke Wu Bai Hee up the next morning. Moaning as she rolled over, she nudged Zhao Jun Jie.
"Answer the door for me, baby?" she asked, her voice still husky with sleep.
The man refused to let her go to sleep last night, insisting on taking her over and over again until she ended up passing out.
"Fine," yawned Zhao Jun Jie, getting out of bed and pulling on some clothes. "But you might want to get dressed too. We don’t need anyone to see their princess in such a state."
"And just who was the one to make me like this?" purred Wu Bai Hee as she sat up, clutching the flat sheet to her naked breasts. Her hair was an absolute mess, but that was the way he liked her best.
The pounding on the door restarted, sounding even louder than before. "Wu Bai Hee! We know you are in there! Open the door! Wu Bai Hee!"
As the voice outside continued to scream her name, Zhao Jun Jie and her exchanged a look of confusion. What was going on?
No one ever called her by her name. It just wasn’t done.
The pounding continued, and Zhao Jun Jie left the room. "Get dressed," he demanded before closing the door behind him.
Getting out of bed, Wu Bai Hee took her time getting ready, not really caring what was going on. The goddess wouldn’t let anything happen to her as long as she was pregnant, and no human would attack a pregnant woman either.
She rubbed her ’get out of jail free’ card as she pulled on a light pink dress. She might be starting to chafe under the title of princess, but she would use it in order to make the others do her bidding.
Brushing her hair and tying it in a low ponytail, she applied some light pink makeup. Just enough to make men think that she wasn’t wearing anything at all.
Satisfied, she left the bedroom and walked down the hall into the living room.
-----
Zhao Jun Jie pulled open the door and glared at the man standing outside. "Where are the guards?" he demanded, looking around to see where the men who should be stopping these people from getting to them were.
"Probably killed like most of us last night," hissed the man standing outside the door. "Or did you not know that we were attacked by zombies?"
"What?" asked Zhao Jun Jie as he shook his head. "Not possible. There couldn’t have been an attack. We would have heard something."
The man snorted and pushed Zhao Jun Jie aside so that he could enter the condo. "Nice try, but everyone could hear the screams last night. Each circle lost at least thirty people. Or was the core not affected at all?" asked the man, cocking his head to the side as he stared at the kitchen full of food.
His wife and children shared a piece of bread twice a day while he went hungry just so they could eat. And here was this man, the leader of City A Sanctuary, with a fruit bowl on the kitchen counter, overflowing with apples and oranges, and a second basket filled with bread.
That food would feed his family for a month! If not longer.
The man could feel his temper becoming out of control as he remembered the cries of his hungry child... the screams of his wife as she was pulled out of their home on the fifth story of their building in the third circle.
Someone needed to pay, and it would be the man and woman hoarding all of the supplies.
