Chapter 279: What I Want To Show You
Chapter 279: What I Want To Show You
"Are you serious right now?" asked Zhong Young Zheng as he glared at Bai Long Qiang. The man just shrugged his shoulders like it wasn’t that big of a deal.
"We aren’t going with you; I thought I had made that pretty obvious. However, I could ask Fan Teng Fei or Si Dong to say it in another language if you think that would help," answered Bai Long Qiang as he stuck his hands in his pocket.
To say that lines had been drawn in the sand was an understatement.
We all stood outside in the parking lot, with over 60 people on one side nearest the mall and only nine people on the other. Chang Guo Zi looked at me, the expression on his face one of regret, but I understood his hands were tied.
Part of being a good leader was listening to those on his team. And that was what he did.
He knew he was making the wrong decision, but he stood by his team until the bitter end.
Hopefully, things would be able to be changed enough that he survived what was to come.
And if he doesn’t...
"Seriously, all this because your girl can’t stand the idea that she is no longer the center of attention? Or is she more worried that you might realize that she isn’t the catch she claims to be and will pick someone else? Either way, that’s fucked up," continued Zhong Yong Zheng.
I could feel the stress and worry coming off of my men as if that was something I was actually worried about, but the stupid men needed to be smarter.
I would never keep someone beside me that didn’t want to be there. It was an insult to both of us. I would never compete for a man, period, end of story.
On the flip side, I would never expect my men to compete for me, either.
"Sure, let’s go with that," grunted Cheng Bo Jing as he shifted Wang Chang Ming in his arms. "You guys go on ahead. We’ll get to City A when we get there."
"But if you aren’t with us when you cross those first set of gates, then you would no longer be considered on our team," interjected Duan Zhao Hui, Chang Guo Zi’s second in command.
"We can make an exception for them," countered Chang Guo Zi. "We are the only team with an actual healer on it, and I am not willing to lose that advantage simply because of a small disagreement."
"Small disagreement?" demanded Jia Yu Sheng, his arms around the woman beside him. She had yet to speak, but her beauty was definitely enough to lure a man to her side... and that air of innocence? Yeah, the men didn’t stand a chance against them.
"They are willing to leave behind people to be eaten and killed simply because of jealousy. You can keep them on your team, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you are stuck watching your backs the whole time. You never know when they will leave you behind, too."
I had to roll my eyes at the leader of Vengeance of the Promised. I wanted to ask them where the zombies were, and didn’t they think it was strange that apparent captives could just leave so easily?
But more than anything else, it bothered me that the zombies were still just hanging around, out of sight and at a far enough distance that no one else was able to see or sense them.
It was like they were hunters, and the teams had taken the bait.
Was that it? Were the women bait in which to provide the zombies with even more food?
I knew what was going to happen. I knew that the zombies would attack...
Holy fuck. This was all part of their plan, the ultimate trap. But did the women know what they were being used for?
I looked toward Ye Yao Zu, and he shook his head. He couldn’t read their minds, which meant that all of the women were spirit users. What was the chance of that happening?
And none of them were looking around or jumping at shadows.
I remember when I was first freed, I expected Alpha to come out of nowhere and try to take me back, but they weren’t acting like that.
The angel on my shoulder reminded me that not everyone reacted to trauma the same way, and just because that was how I did things didn’t mean that the women would have to act the same.
But the devil reminded me that while not everyone reacts the same way as me, 30 victims would also show differences in how they behaved.
I thought about that, studying the women. Almost everyone was attached to a member of one of the teams. All of their heads were lowered except for Ye Mei Hui, who was alone, and the woman that Fang Ting Guang was holding.
Not one of them looked around, shuffled their feet, or did anything to show even a hint of unease.
And yet, none of the men saw it.
I looked at Si Dong, who had his arm wrapped around me. ’Do you see it?’ I asked, hoping that he would be reading my mind.
He looked at me, shocked, before shaking his head. ’See what?’ he asked, his deep, rich voice invading my mind like a warm hug.
’They are a trap. I don’t know if they know it or not, but they are the main component.’ I didn’t know how to do what I wanted to do, but that had yet to stop me since I discovered freedom from Camp Hell.
Gripping onto the feeling of Si Dong, I brought him inside of me, inside of my head.
Which in hindsight, I really should have cleaned up a bit first.
"What?" he asked, looking around. I had a lot of memories laid out, and most of them I didn’t want him to see. Pushing them behind a curtain, I tried to explain myself.
"When I heal someone, I enter into their body. I just tried to do the reverse with you," I shrugged like it wasn’t that bad of a thing. But now I was worried sick about what he might have seen.
"Nice," nodded Si Dong, looking around with new eyes.
"This is what I wanted to show you," I continued, forcing myself to get back to the matter at hand.
