Chapter 260: Not What He Was Expecting
Cheng Bo Jing and Ye Yao Zu stood at the entrance of City B, waiting for the teams that may or may not appear.
Letting out a long, tired sigh, Ye Yao Zu turned to look at his friend.
"I am normally not the one to pull a Si Dong, but why don’t we go out and grab some supplies? I am sure that the other four teams have been around long enough to get to the city by themselves. And I am sure that we will meet up with them... eventually," shrugged Ye Yao Zu as he rested his wrists on the butt of his rifle.
This post was worse than watching paint dry. There were no zombies stumbling about, no animals stalking them through the woods, nothing.
It was boring.
And while there were certain situations where boring was good. This was not one of them.
Not when the Little Fox was by herself in a house filled with unknown men.
"She isn’t by herself," grunted Cheng Bo Jing, rolling his eyes before looking at the other man. Ye Yao Zu would have assumed that the man was reading his mind, but he knew better.
Cheng Bo Jing was just that good when it came to reading the subtle clues from someone. Almost as good as he was.
"Do you really think that Rip and that fucking assassin are going to just let her nap peacefully in that house? Not a chance," continued the man with a scoff.
Now that Ye Yao Zu was able to take a step back and reanalyze the situation, he had to admit that what the other man had said was correct. Even if Wang Tian Mu had said that she would be fine by herself, those two wouldn’t be willing to take the chance.
"Still," grunted Ye Yao Zu, "Even you have to admit that this is pointless. We could be finding food, or... well... food."
"Since when did you start to turn into Si Dong?" asked Cheng Bo Jing, a confused look on his face. "You normally aren’t this antsy."
"No idea," replied the man with a shrug. "I just want to get back and be on our way as soon as possible."
"Which we can do as soon as the others arrive," reminded Cheng Bo Jing, used to being the voice of reason for the team. But usually not for the psychiatrist.
"Which we don’t even know when they are going to show up," reminded Ye Yao Zu, bringing the argument full circle again. "Thus, my point is that this is pointless."
Cheng Bo Jing blinked a few times, staring at the other man. "You did that on purpose, didn’t you?"
"I did," smirked Ye Yao Zu. "But seriously. There is a camping store not that far from here. I am sure that there are a lot of things we can use in there."
"Fine," grunted Cheng Bo Jing, once again rolling his eyes. "We will go there and any other place that is within a 30 minute walk from here, but that is it. And you can explain to the Little Rabbit why we missed the teams arriving."
"Deal! Let’s go!"
----
The camping store that Ye Yao Zu was talking about was just within the time limit that Cheng Bo Jing had put on their excursion. Almost 30 minutes later, to the minute, the two men pulled open the glass door.
"I got left," grunted Cheng Bo Jing, quickly scanning the store. It felt like they were being watched, but for some reason, he couldn’t pinpoint where the feeling was coming from.
And it definitely wasn’t a zombie. None of them had seen hide or hair of those creatures since Wang Tian Mu had first started draining their power. It was like they were now scared of all humans or something.
"Fine, I’ll take right. The camping supplies are to the right anyways," smirked Ye Yao Zu. He had a very specific list of what he wanted to bring back to Wang Tian Mu. If only he were like Fan Teng Fei and had a space, this would have been so much easier.
He walked over to the portable camp stoves that fit inside of a rectangular case and grabbed two. Strapping them to his back, he continued to go through the aisles.
He knew that his Little Fox would have given anything for a dehydrator or a freeze dryer before the end of the world. They had once had a whole conversation on just how much she wanted them, but she said that she couldn’t justify the few thousand dollars that the freeze dryer cost back then.
Now, they were nothing more than an incredibly heavy paperweight.
Finding a whole wall of camping backpacks, he grabbed one before putting a bunch of freeze-dried meals into it, then removed the two portable stoves from his back and attached them to the front of the bag.
The hard-shell case would add two extra layers of protection.
Satisfied, he grabbed another three bags, putting one against his chest before carrying the other two in his left hand. He’d give them to Cheng Bo Jing for whatever he found.
The sound of a can falling to the ground and rolling out of the aisle he had just left caused him to pause.
Quickly dropping the two empty bags, he grabbed his rifle in both hands and brought it up to eye level. "Lao Tie!" he shouted, sending out a wave of his power to the other man. "We got company!!"
"P-p-p-please, d-d-d-don’t hurt me," said a small voice off to the side. "I don’t have any weapons, and I am only a water power user. I am harmless."
Ye Yao Zu wanted to snort over that statement. He had yet to meet someone who was a threat openly declaring themselves as such.
"I-I-I-I’m coming out," stuttered the voice again. "I have my hands up."
Movement out of the corner of Ye Yao Zu’s eyes brought his attention to the second floor of the store and Cheng Bo Jing, his gun trained on something only he could see.
"Come forward slowly," suggested Ye Yao Zu, his gun never wavering. The voice didn’t sound threatening, but he wasn’t willing to take the chance.
However, what did end up appearing in front of him was nothing like what he had expected.
