Chapter 238: An Energy Drink Will Go A Long Way

Before I knew it, our tent had been completely taken down, and Rip had picked me up in his arms, ready to carry me away from everyone.

"Where are you going?" asked Chang Guo Zi, approaching the guys. He sounded surprised, and frankly, so was I.

The sun had set, and darkness had descended all around us. It was next to impossible to see what was in front of your face, let alone down the road.

"We’re heading to City B," grunted Fan Teng Fei as he waved his hand, and everything disappeared into his space. I was always worried that he was going to run out of room, but he assured me that that wasn’t possible.

"You do realize that it is night, right?" chuckled Chang Guo Zi, looking around. "There is no need to be in that much of a hurry. Besides, we all agreed that we would go to City B with you."

"Ah, there’s the trust," smirked Bai Long Qiang as he lit the end of a torch and raised it up. "You don’t believe that we will come back with the supplies, so you are going to take us out of the equation."

"I would like to point out, without throwing anyone under the bus, that I was more than happy just to stay here and wait for you to come back," replied Chang Guo Zi, and I could see him rolling his eyes. "I just happened to be outvoted."

"Well, no matter what you guys decide to do, we are going on ahead," grunted Rip, clearly not impressed with the fact that we weren’t already on the road. But that man always hated the idea that I was hungry.

He had been too powerless in Camp Hell to do anything about it, but out here was a different story. And he was determined to give me whatever I wanted and needed.

"Just think of us as the vanguard, clearing the way so that you don’t have to fight," shrugged Si Dong as he adjusted his backpack.

Even though Fan Teng Fei had a space, the guys agreed that it would be too obvious if no one had even a backpack or something. Even small details like that would be enough to set off warning bells in others and make them more intrigued about what we may or may not be carrying around in a space. However, it was also agreed that I was never to carry anything... ever.

"We’ll see you when we see you," chuckled Bai Long Qiang as he turned around and left the camp, the others following him quickly after, with Rip and I in the middle.

Feeling safe and secure, I closed my eyes and just relaxed into Rip’s embrace.

However, the moment I did that, it was like I was surrounded by light.

I could see the life force of everything shining brightly, confined into the body that it had found itself in.

Each one of my men shone brightly, and I was able to see everything that they were doing as if I had my eyes open. Si Dong had just hit Ye Yao Zu with his shoulder, and the two men were laughing softly, not wanting to disturb me.

I could see the trees around me, their life force reaching out into every leaf, branch, and root. But unlike my men, their life force was visibly moving, like a highway of color as it transferred to each blade of grass and each petal on a flower.

It was amazing to see just how interconnected everything was, how all plant life depended on each other.

The animals were in the same boat as my men, their life force confined to their bodies, unable to be shared with others. I saw two squirrels asleep in their nest while Hei flew over our heads, invisible to everyone else.

In fact, the only thing that was not lit up was the highway under us. It looked like nothing but a black line leading off in the distance.

Like a yellow brick road that wasn’t yellow.

"Are you okay, Little Bird?" asked Rip as he leaned forward to whisper in my ear.

"I wish you could see this," I admitted. I kept my eyes closed as I moved my head around to take in everything. I was worried that if I had opened them, all I would be able to see was darkness.

Rip chuckled and dropped a kiss on the top of my head. "It’s enough that you are happy," he assured me, squeezing me tighter.

We continued to walk down the highway, moving around objects that I couldn’t see.

"Cars that have been destroyed for a while," grunted Rip when I raised my head to ask him about it.

I guess that made sense. A car wouldn’t have a life force unless it was working. Like I could see the flame and stick that Bai Long Qiang was holding up, but it was fainter than the living beings around it.

I must have dozed off because the next thing I knew, I was surrounded by the guys, and they were discussing whether or not they should push through the rest of the night or take two hours to rest.

"Rest," I said, letting them know I was awake. "I’ll stay watch."

Since I had been sleeping, I was the most awake of everyone, and with this new aspect of my power, I would be able to see things that they couldn’t.

"Are you sure?" asked Cheng Bo Jing as he approached me. Rip still had yet to put me down, so the other man and I were almost face to face. I also had to admit I liked the fact that he didn’t immediately dismiss my suggestion or suggest that I couldn’t do it.

"Yup," I smiled. "I’ve been asleep for a while and now am wide awake," I continued, looking at Fan Teng Fei. "But an energy drink would go a long way."

"Whatever you want," agreed Fan Teng Fei, handing me an ice-cold, yellow can of energy.

"You are learning," I joked as I gave him a small kiss on the cheek before he could step back.

He rolled his eyes, but the smile on his face told me that he didn’t mind it at all.

"Alright, boys! Let’s get comfortable while our princess guards us in our sleep!" called out Si Dong as Fan Teng Fei took out a bunch of sleeping bags from his space and threw them around in a circle.

"Let’s not ever call me that again, okay?" I cringed. While I used to think being called someone’s princess was cute, Wu Bai Hee had utterly ruined it for me.
