Fight, Flight, or Freeze: The Healer's Story
Chapter 201: No Longer Useful

Chapter 201: No Longer Useful

The sound of glass shattering echoed through the condo as Wu Bai Hee let out a scream of frustration. She frantically looked around for something else to throw, but there was nothing else.

Still upset, she stormed off into the living room and started to grab the throw pillows from the couches. When just tossing them onto the floor didn’t help, she started ripping them apart, watching as all the cotton stuffing fell to the floor.

"Temper, temper," came a smug voice from right behind Wu Bai Hee.

The woman spun around to confront whoever was there, only to come to a dead stop, her face turning pale.

"Goddess," she said, swallowing the words she was about to speak. As much as she hated it, she had to play nice with this woman... this Goddess.

It was her who brought Wu Bai Hee back to life a second time, gave her the chance to find her soulmate, and right the wrongs that had been committed against her in her first life.

And she did find the man destined to be hers. Liu Wei was the eldest son of the Liu family in City H—the heir to the Red Dragon syndicate and the only man to make her feel human.

But then that son of a bitch had to go fall in love with someone else.

How!? How could that even be possible? She was his soul mate. Her soul cried out for his, and the pain of being apart from him was nothing less than excruciating.

In her first life, he had been away in Country S when the EMP hit, and the world as they knew it ended. On his way to get back to his family, he ended up being turned into a zombie with his best friend and boss, Wang Chao.

But even then, she loved him.

When he did nothing more than stand behind Wang Chao as the prince of City A took over the world, she still loved him.

And when she died in that life, thanks to the weak humans who didn’t understand the true power of the zombies, she came back, ready to make things right.

She practically moved in with his grandfather and brother. She manipulated a marriage between the Red Dragon Syndicate and the Black Mountain Syndicate. One that, when it happened, would create the biggest merger in the history of Country K’s underworld.

And yet, he didn’t look at her.

So, once again, she had to get her hands dirty. She convinced his grandfather to head up to City A a few days before the apocalypse so they could be close. So she could prevent him from leaving the country and, hopefully, prevent him from becoming a zombie.

Did he look at her then?

No.

It was supposed to be a touching reunion, the first time she would have seen him since she had been reborn. And instead of him realizing his love for her... she found him hanging off another woman, completely besotted by her.

Li Dai Lu.

The bane of her second and third life.

That’s right. She died a second time. Not by humans like in her first life, but by the man who was her other half.

Liu Wei killed her in his grandfather’s office and then walked away like nothing had happened.

Walked into the arms of another woman.

"Done reminiscing?" asked the Goddess from where she was sitting down on the couch, looking around at the mess.

"Just thinking about how best to serve you," smiled Wu Bai Hee, hiding her rage and hatred behind a mask she had perfected for three lifetimes.

"You know that shit doesn’t work on me," sneered the Goddess. "You are nothing more than a child throwing a temper tantrum. I would be worried about the effects your emotions play on the child in your stomach, but seeing as I was the one to put it in there, I know nothing is going to happen to it."

That was right. The fucking bit—Goddess of fertility thought that it would be funny to see her pregnant with another man’s child. She wanted her to seduce Liu Wei away from Li Dai Lu; in fact, she wanted her to seduce all of the men away from Li Dai Lu, and when she failed, this was her punishment.

"I know that I failed you," murmured Wu Bai Hee, looking down at the ground. She could taste blood in her mouth from where she was biting the side of her cheek so hard she punctured the flesh.

"That you have. I asked you to destroy Li Dai Lu, to shatter her completely, and yet, she is happily pregnant right now, living the high life."

The Goddess’ words were like a knife through Wu Bai Hee’s heart at the idea that her soulmate had managed to impregnate another woman. Oh sure, he had a 25% chance of being the father, but it was like a piece of glass under her skin to even know that he had fucked another woman.

"Ah, but at least you don’t need to worry about your son. He is still here in the city," pointed out Wu Bai Hee. That was the second part of her job, to look after the Goddess’ grown-ass son.

At least he was useful.

"Yes, he appears to have gotten over his silly crush on Li Dai Lu," mused the Goddess, coming to her feet. "I guess, in a way, you are lucky. Li Dai Lu has decided to remove herself from the world, preferring to live a quiet life alone with her men on a mountaintop somewhere. I don’t need you to shatter her anymore."

"All’s well that ends well, I guess," smiled Wu Bai Hee. Maybe now that Li Dai Lu was no longer an issue, this bit—Goddess, would leave her alone.

"In your dreams," grunted the Goddess, reading her mind. "In fact, if it weren’t for the child inside of you, I would have gotten rid of you. I mean, if you are no longer useful, there is no point in keeping you around."

"But I have the child. You can do nothing," smirked Wu Bai Hee with a gleam in her eyes. She still had a lot of plans to see to fruition.

Liu Wei wasn’t the only reason she came back.

After all, humans had ruined her first life. They might as well start making up for it. City A had used her until there was nothing left... until they had spat her out and into the arms of the zombies.

Just because that was how she meant Liu Wei the first time around didn’t mean shit.

City A owed her... and now it was time to pay.
