Fight, Flight, or Freeze: The Healer's Story -
Chapter 198: Not Acceptable
Chapter 198: Not Acceptable
After taking the world’s fastest shower, I dressed quickly and went back into the living room, where the tension between the guys and our new fearless leader continued.
"So... what did I miss?" I asked with a bright smile on my face. The energy I got from the Reavers was running rampant through my body, making me feel lighter and happier than ever.
"Just wondering what happened in there," said Chang Guo Zi, raising his eyebrow. No one would tell him anything, and I knew that it must be frustrating for him to be the last to know everything.
However, in this case, he wasn’t. The only people who knew what I could do were Rip and Bin An Sha, and I knew they wouldn’t be telling anyone, not even the other guys.
"We got the information we needed, and then Rip killed them," I shrugged like it wasn’t that big of a deal. I hadn’t asked Rip if he would be willing to be my scapegoat, but I knew him well enough that I didn’t need to.
Rip smiled, letting his teeth show.
Chang Guo Zi paused for a second before nodding his head. "Yeah, if anyone can kill a Reaver, it would be you. May I ask how you did it? The only reason I ask is that they always seem to heal so fast that it is impossible to kill them."
"I ripped them limb from limb so fast that they weren’t able to recover. Reavers aren’t like zombies; they can’t grow new limbs. Take enough of them all at once, and they die just like everything else," explained Rip like it wasn’t that big of a deal.
Clearly, Chang Guo Zi disagreed. "There is no way a human would be able to do that. The limb would just reattach before we get the chance to take it all off at once. Unless we cut them off... would that work?"
"It would. Taking a Reaver’s head will kill them just like it would a human."
"It is just a lot harder to take their head than one of ours," murmured Chang Guo Zi, his lip twisting in a sneer.
"But that is why you want me on your team, right? To take the heads and make the kill?" smirked Rip as he sat in one of the chairs, his legs crossed like a king on his throne.
"What information did you get?" asked Cheng Bo Jing, trying to change the topic. Unfortunately for him, he changed it to something I didn’t want to talk about.
"The Reavers were here because of the zombies," started Rip, not even taking a moment to think of a lie. "While zombies prefer humans, Reavers prefer them. So, when the Sanctuary troops managed to kill off or scare the zombies away, the Reavers went with them. They won’t be back for a while."
Chang Guo Zi nodded his head. "At least that is one less thing to deal with," he said with a sigh.
"And now that everyone is done, let’s eat," smiled Cheng Bo Jing, taking the lid off of one of the pots in front of him. The smell of cooked rice filled the room, and everyone’s stomachs started growling.

Bin An Sha stared up at the ceiling, trying to figure out exactly what happened earlier today.
While he had come across a few other healers in his time, he had never once witnessed something like what Wang Tian Mu had done.
She had more than just healed a current illness... she had healed every aspect of him.
He let his healing energy circulate through his body, taking stock of everything that had changed. But no matter how many times he looked, he still couldn’t believe it.
She had taken energy out of something and put it into something else. And while she had used a Reaver to create that miracle, Bin An Sha was sure that she could do the same thing with every other living thing on this planet.
It just so happened that she hated Reavers enough not to feel guilty about killing them.
But whatever power she had... it was more than just healing. She had pure magic, and anyone that was blessed to see it would want some of it for themselves.
No. Firefly was a treasure, one that needed to be carefully guarded from those who would want to hurt her or exploit her. Luckily, there were seven men up for the job.
He fell asleep that night, remembering the feeling of her touch as her magic embraced him, leaving a part of her inside of him.
Like his own power, hers glowed green where it circled his heart. However, it was not the light green that he associated with healing; rather, it was a dark green color, like evergreen trees standing strong against the harshness of winter.
That was what was different. Healing power was gentle, like a flower blooming in spring. One gust of cold air could easily crush the stem, killing it off before it had the chance to grow. Most healers were both the sprout and the cold air. They healed only until it started draining their own reserves and then brutally cut it off, not letting the wound completely heal.
Sometimes, it got better; sometimes, it stayed the same. And sometimes it got worse, causing the patient to die.
But that was never the healer’s fault.
No, people just wanted the idea of it all... someone who could heal anything, even death.
And before today, Bin An Sha would have said that no one on Earth could do something like that.
But he stood corrected. Wang Tian Mu would be able to bring someone back from the brink of death. Hell, it wouldn’t surprise him that she could even bring back the dead.
No. He couldn’t go there, didn’t dare even think about it.
They would take a page out of Wu Bai Hee’s playbook and claim that Wang Tian Mu didn’t have a power. She was nothing more than a normal human who attended medical school young and graduated at the top of her class.
She could heal without needing to Heal.
And that would have to be enough.
Anything more could put her at risk, and that just wasn’t acceptable.
