Fight, Flight, or Freeze: The Healer's Story -
Chapter 150: Fuck My Life
Chapter 150: Fuck My Life
The woman on top of the cage, the one that knew me in my past life, cocked her head to the side and studied me as I ate my chocolate bar.
There was something very disconcerting to have someone staring at you as you ate. I knew my hands were dirty and my manners weren’t the best, but still, she didn’t need to look at me like that.
I felt enough like an experiment in a cage; I didn’t need her adding to it.
"Don’t you want to get out?" she asked like she couldn’t believe I was still happily lying in my cage.
I mean, I wasn’t overjoyed at it. But the fact that so many things were going on outside of it that were out of my control, my cage felt safe...
Known...
No one could grab me and carry me off because I was in my cage.
No one could hurt me because I was in my cage.
The world made sense because I was in my cage.
I might hate the stupid thing... but it was my safety blanket right now when the world was spinning out of control.
But I had no idea how to explain that without sounding like an idiot.
Or a coward.
But I was a coward.
I plastered the smile on my face as I licked the caramel off of my fingers. "Nope," I said, looking up at her like I was in control of everything and not internally freaking out. "If it were safe to let me out, Rip would have let me out. If he wants me in here until the screams stop, then that is what I am going to do."
Great, now I sounded like an even bigger moron...
Who in their right mind would have answered like that? I mean, I wasn’t wrong. I knew that Rip would have gotten me out of this thing if he thought it was safe. But just because he looked relaxed, it didn’t mean that was how he felt on the inside.
He hated seeing me in this thing. In fact, he had threatened to have it destroyed more often than not, but I couldn’t do it.
And he didn’t understand.
So yeah, now I sounded like a naive moron who wouldn’t do anything unless the big strong man told me I could.
Fuck my life.
Of course, it didn’t help my inner dialogue that the woman was just rapidly blinking at me like she was trying to figure out just how far back I, personally, set the feminist revolution back.
Trying not to take offense, I opened my mouth to explain myself, but all that came out was: "My reason for living, remember?"
Great. Now I sound like a lovesick idiot on top of a weak, pathetic woman. This was just getting better and better.
But when Rip turned around and stared at me, his eyes wide at my confession, I realized just what I had inadvertently done.
I had confessed my feelings to him. But instead of telling him to his face, I said it to someone else.
Was it too much to ask for the earth to open up right now and swallow me?
Please?
Anyone?
Fuck my life.

Si Dong stared at the men in front of him, trying to get a read on them.
He remembered them, even if he had completely forgotten their names. But the way they were pacing their cells right now screamed predators, and the last thing he wanted was for them to take out Camp Hell before they managed to find their woman.
They had been here for a while.... Or at least he was pretty sure that it had been a while. Time here seemed not to matter. The days dragged on until it was hard to keep track of them.
But he never stopped trying to find Wang Tian Mu.
He would also need to rescue the Healer.
He closed his eyes when he thought about her, and the stabbing guilt cut through him just like it did every time he pictured her in his mind.
The only other person who had ever made him feel even close to what he felt for her was Wang Tian Mu. Was this the universe’s sign that he should give up on his first love and move on with the Healer?
Could he do that?
Letting out a long sigh, he failed to notice what the other guys were doing until the leader of the group spoke again. "It’s confirmed. She’s pregnant, and it’s twins."
The other men seemed surprised. It took Si Dong only a moment to realize who they were talking about. Their woman, the one that told them how to find Wang Tian Mu was pregnant.
But how would he know that?
Surely, they left her at home instead of bringing her here.
Did they not know what they were walking into?
"Twins?" asked the man with glasses as he took out a notebook and pen. He started writing down a bunch of things, only to cross them out just as quickly.
The biggest one gripped the bars of his cage as he stared at his leader. "We’re going to be fathers?" he breathed, and Si Dong could hear the hope and excitement in his voice.
He felt bad. There was no way Alpha was going to let them out of their cages... or at least, not alive. To know you were going to be fathers without ever being able to see your children must be the worst feeling in the world.
"We’re going to be fathers!" shouted the same man. Si Dong looked at the ground, not willing to burst their bubble.
"Well, it looks like a lot of people are going to die," chuckled the last of the four men as he, too, gripped the bars of his cage like he could rip them apart and escape.
He didn’t know that that was only the first step on the road to his death.
He had heard what happened to the fighter who had escaped. He had become a legend of sorts. An example for all of what not to do.
"Hold on for right now," repeated the first man, interrupting Si Dong’s thoughts. "She wants us to keep an eye out for any military men that might be wandering around the compound."
Si Dong stiffened at his words. Was that man a spirit user, too? Was that how he was getting his information? Was he talking to his woman? He brought his woman here?!?
"I am guessing that would be you," the mountain said as he narrowed his eyes at Si Dong. "Are you the military men that she is talking about? The ones that belong to Bai Long Qiang?"
