Chapter 105: Are You Going To Listen Or Are You Going To Die?
"Funny, I don’t remember volunteering them." Si Dong couldn’t help but smirk at General Wang’s words. It was a good thing that this base wouldn’t be around for too much longer if the Major General was so willing to let just anyone in.
First them.
Then, this group.
The man really had no brains to survive. Or maybe he was just expecting everyone else to be cannon fodder.
"Well, how else are we going to save the civilians?" Yup, the Major General really was too stupid to live, as Wang Tian Mu would say. If he really thought people would be just willing to hand over their assets to a little shitstain like him, then maybe the military should be choosier in who they hire... and promote.
Just as Si Dong thought the idiot couldn’t put his foot in it anymore, he ended up asking the General if he had ever encountered a horde before.
"I have," replied the General, not looking the least bit uncomfortable. "But we aren’t facing a horde; we are facing a tide. It would be interesting to see the difference between the two firsthand."
Bai Long Qiang leaned back in his chair, studying the General. He couldn’t get a fix on the man. Was he going to put a kink in their plan or not? Clearly, he hated the head of City Y Sanctuary, but he also gave him good information.
If it were up to Bai Long Qiang, he would have let everyone think that it was nothing more than a horde and watched everyone’s faces as they saw thousands of zombies descend on them.
Luckily, no one seemed to have believed him.
The entire room burst out laughing at his words, and the General only raised an eyebrow and looked at the woman behind him. Seeing her nod, Cheng Bo Jing’s eyes narrowed. The General was only the figurehead of the team... it was like Liao Gang Bo said: the woman was in charge.
"I find it hard to believe that there are enough zombies to form a horde any bigger than a hundred bodies at most." Bai Long Qiang stared at the man sitting across the table from the General. He was dead wrong in his numbers, but it was nice to know that he and his team managed to help bring up the totals to something the other guy would have a hard time believing.
Bai Long Qiang shared a look with Cheng Bo Jing, their smiles eerily similar.
"I didn’t say that it was a single horde," replied the General. He really didn’t seem to care if the others listened to his warnings or not. Did that put him back on their side?
"It is multiple hordes, all together, in a number big enough to wipe out this base in a matter of hours. But what do I know?" continued the General, explaining to the masses.
"Not possible," interjected yet another team leader. Bai Long Qiang smirked slightly. So many people were willing to work with him, even if they had no idea they were even doing it. Bai Long Qiang needed everyone in the room to believe that the numbers were much smaller. That the zombies weren’t any type of threat at all. "The zombies aren’t capable of the intelligence needed to do something like that," continued the guy.
When Bai Long Qiang looked around, he could see a bunch of heads nodding to his statement. That’s right... little lemming... follow the leader... right off the cliff.
"Really? Then you have come across the zombies before?" asked the third guy seated with General Wang, speaking up for the first time.
"Well, no, but we all know that they are just mindless creatures that are looking for a meal."
"Ah," replied the man, nodding his head. "If that is the case, then they don’t need us. Let’s get back home. If we hurry, we can get back before Li Dai Lu eats the last peach crisp."
This third one seemed to be smart. Once again, Cheng Bo Jing and Bai Long Qiang looked at each other. They needed this team gone. They knew too much and would be too much of a help to City Y when the tide hit.
When General Wang stood up, Bai Long Qiang dropped his head. He couldn’t wipe the shit-eating grin off of this face and didn’t want anyone to see it. When the rest of the General’s team followed his lead, the Major General started to panic.
"Now, now, don’t be so hasty," he said, trying to bring some semblance of control back to the meeting. "It is true that there are zombies coming, and it is also true that our scouts can’t determine their numbers. Besides. As some of the last humans, it is our responsibility to fight whenever possible to rid the world of this infection."
Well, there went the smirk. Bai Long Qiang clenched his jaw so hard that Cheng Bo Jing could hear his teeth grinding together.
Their responsibility to fight? To save people? Where the fuck were they when City D fell? What about all the humans there?
With the blood rushing to his head, it took Bai Long Qiang a few seconds to hear the slow, sarcastic clap from the third guy. "Rousing speech," he said. "But it means nothing if you don’t even know how to fight the zombies in the first place."
"I am pretty sure that everyone here knows that you just slice off their heads." The moron from before opened his mouth yet again, stunning Bai Long Qiang’s team. Some humans should just hurry up and remove themselves from the gene pool. It would really be beneficial for future generations.
"AH, ignorance is such bliss. I miss that. I really do." The third guy went over to the woman and man standing against the wall and took up a position beside her. "But at least I know why you get so cranky dealing with new people. I think we should make the grump the face of our group. Let him deal with the stupid people."
Bai Long Qiang turned to Fan Teng Fei. He had patience for days, and nothing ever really got under his skin. Maybe he could do what the guy was suggesting and put someone else in front as the face.
"False knowledge is more dangerous than ignorance," said the woman.
Truer words were never spoken. The problem was that Bai Long Qiang needed everyone in the room to be both ignorant and unaware of how to fight zombies.
"Are you going to listen, or are you going to die?"
