Chapter 93: Keep it cool.

"He looks familiar because he is Samuel. The guy who led us out." Theo clipped, his jaw tightening.

Bethany was speechless and confused. She rewound the footage, reducing the speed so she could study Samuel’s interaction with one of the men- probably the leader- of the men that were sent to ambush them.

Their interaction didn’t seem to carry the slightest ounce of bad energy. It seemed like they were going over their plans and discussing minor issues they might have had.

The familiarity between the two men was unmistakable.

But it didn’t make sense to her at all.

He was obviously in on the plan to ambush them, so why did he lead them through a secret pathway and away from the ambush, instead of ambushing them there at once? He had the chance but didn’t take it.

"Why?" Bethany couldn’t help but mutter. "Why did he pretend?" She asked, her eyes still on the footage.

Samuel shook the other man’s hand in understanding, heading into the building to assume his position, but not before looking up at the camera briefly.

"And to think we are expecting him in a few minutes." Theo muttered, leaning away.

"Expecting him? Why?" Bethany asked in confusion.

"He was supposed to send a report of everything that happened and all he knew and could find about it, but Troy thought it wise to invite him over. Said something about it being easier to understand that way." Theo said scoffing, running his hand through his hair.

Bethany sighed, leaning into the uncomfortable seat, speechless.

"I’m going up, but you should stay here. If he’s with the enemies, he might want to bring them over and complete the job here at once, far from any form of backup." Theo explained, picking up his phone from his side of the table.

"So you’re insinuating I sit here while you guys kill yourselves out there?" She asked coldly, her icy tone void of all forms of humor.

"No. I am saying you sit here away from danger, so if this meeting goes south, we can deal with it easily without having to worry about your well-being." He explained quietly, peering into her stormy eyes that were beginning to soften.

She sighed, wanting to argue but didn’t know how to without risking sounding unreasonable.

His reasons were very valid, she had to admit because she wouldn’t be able to live knowing she was the cause of a major breakout, but at the same time; she didn’t want him to leave.

"Here." He said, leaning over her, his fingers flying across his keyboard, a live footage of the the sitting room and kitchen displaying on the monitor.

"You can watch us from here, but you can’t hear what we’re going to say. The camera doesn’t support audio, just video." He explained, maximizing the tab.

"And if it looks like we are losing control, press the red button just under this edge of the table. It would signal for backup, and in a few minutes they’ll be here. Okay?"

"Okay." She said, nodding lightly, not to him.

"Alright. I’ll see you in a bit." He said, kissing the area behind and below her neck, causing her to subconsciously bare her neck even more, giving him more access.

"I’d be back, and we would continue." He muttered softly in her ear, nipping on her ear lobe before leaving the office, and shutting the door behind him.

Only then did she turn, watching him take long strides out of her range of sight.

When she couldn’t see him anymore, she sighed turning to the live footage of Troy and Tristan sitting on different cushions, conversing a bit heatedly.

Their conversation stopped as soon as Theo walked into the room, their eyes on him.

Tristan asked him something, while Troy looked expectantly at his brother.

Theo visibly sighed going to sit on the loveseat she’d sat on earlier, his legs wide apart.

He responded to Tristan’s question, pointing at the camera. Troy and Tristan’s longing looks peered at her through the camera. Even though she knew they couldn’t see her, she couldn’t help but warm up under their gazes.

After a few seconds, they turned their gazes back to Theo, and Tristan asked another question that caused Theo’s jaw to tighten visibly.

He spat his reply with so much resentment and anger, his brothers couldn’t help but frown heavily at his reply.

Bethany sighed, half-heartedly pitying Samuel and his partners because, with the amount of primal death intent swirling in the eyes of her mates, they were as good as dead.

__________

"Samuel?!" Troy barked, on his feet in a flash, golden specks flashing in his dark eyes. "How is that possible? He is our security detail, why would he do that?" He asked, running his huge fingers through his hair.

"What exactly was he doing in the footage." Tristan asked, his hoarse heavy voice more than enough to indicate how pissed he was.

"He was talking to someone I think I can safely assume to be the leader of the guys that were there to ambush us," Theo replied. "Their conversation was too casual to be a confrontation. He wasn’t giving the other man orders."

"They were going over their final plans." Tristan added wisely.

"Yeah. I think so." Theo said.

"Well. It’s good I invited him then. We can deal with him when he gets here." Troy said, looking calm, but his brothers knew it was the calm before the storm.

"Yeah. How did the calling go? Please tell me this incident isn’t on the news." Theo pleaded, his gaze on his brothers.

"It almost was. Very close, but we handled it." Troy responded.

"And Dad?" Theo asked. "That man has ears and eyes everywhere, what did he say?"

"He said he’d look into it, and that it was probably planned by someone close, so we should try to keep this under wraps," Tristan said, sighing.

"Well, we can try to do that. But that would be when we’re done skinning this fucker alive." Theo spat as they heard Samuel’s car drive in.

Keep it cool.
