Chapter 105: Another Lie.
Chapter 105: Another Lie.
"So he was abused by his father," Troy said, letting out a shaky sigh.
"Do I even want to know what three cuts on his tiny lip looked like?" Tristan asked, almost feeling sorry for the fucker.
"Trust me, you don’t not," Theo said with a disgusted look, quickly closing the picture.
"So we know he had a fucked up childhood, and I presume he didn’t go to college," Tristan said, sighing, not wanting the silence to linger.
"Yeah, he didn’t. He enrolled to join the pack army then. Reports say he was a good kid, rising the ranks pretty fast and gaining the favour of the leaders." Theo reported, scanning for more reports.
"What changed?" Tristan asked, feeling like they all already knew where he fucked up.
"After he got to the third rank among the top warriors, he let it get into his head. Began questioning authority, imposing his presence on the younger ones. So many reports of him sexually harassing the younger ones and bullying them started coming in in mass." Theo said, shaking his head.
"So he single-handedly fucked up his life. Seems like the perfect prey for manipulation to me." Troy said, his voice deeper than before, as they approached the darker parts.
Tristan massaged the top of the bridge of his nose with his thumb and index finger, trying to figure out the next step.
"Pull up the pictures of people who got into the top warriors’ first rank with him, single pictures and a group photo," Tristan instructed, and Theo immediately got to work. "We also need to know the people he’s been talking to, a few days before and after he was informed that he was going to be your security detail." He added.
"I think that one would need some one-on-one asking." Troy reasoned. "We can’t find that online. Or can we?" He asked Theo.
"No we can’t. But what we can do is pull up CCTV footage of him around the soldiers’ camp. Maybe we can find the person or people he’s been conversing with more than others." Theo said, compiling the pictures and information of the people he was initiated into the top rank with.
"I’ve to call someone who might know who he’s been speaking with," Troy said, pulling out his phone.
"That can work, but what if the person doesn’t know?" Tristan asked.
"There’s only one way to find out. We also have to ask the people around him. He doesn’t share a room with anyone since he’s on the third level, so we can’t ask any of his roommates -" Troy reasoned, but was interrupted by Tristan.
"We have his phone, we could check it to find out who he’s been speaking with. Although I doubt the person would be sloppy enough to leave traces of himself." Tristan said, sighing in exhaustion.
Theo looked up at Tristan, his gaze pointed, causing Tristan to look up at him. "What is it?" He asked, furrowing his eyebrows.
"Well, you’ve sighed twice in less than five minutes. You’re looking more tired than normal, a little older as well. Like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. You literally look like something else is eating you up on the inside, but you’re trying to push it away." Theo pointed, his arms folded across his chest, as he peered at his brother, Troy, joining him.
"I’m fine, and stop profiling me." Tristan defended, looking away, his wolf picking his silly lie apart in his mind.
"Tell another lie, Brother. That one wouldn’t work." Troy scoffed. "Are you nervous, angry, worried?" He pushed.
"Are you nervous about tomorrow?" Theo asked, causing Tristan to raise one of his eyebrows in confusion.
"Why would I be nervous?" Tristan asked.
"What’s happening tomorrow?" Troy asked, feeling a little left out.
"Tomorrow is his turn to be with Beth." Theo responded, his gaze on his brother unmoving as he paid attention to every single movement his brother was making, including the way his ears twitched, indicating Theo was right, but from the look in his eyes, he knew that that wasn’t the only thing that bothered him.
"Oh." Troy sighed, leaning into his seat, his urge to converse disappearing.
"I’m not nervous about that. Why would I be?" Tristan defended again, beginning to get uncomfortable. His brothers knew that he didn’t like to be read, but they did it anyway. Sadly, they were Alphas like him so he couldn’t exactly order them.
"I don’t know, Brother. You tell me." Theo said, shrugging his shoulders. "And tell me what else is worrying you, because I know that nervousness isn’t the only thing you’re feeling, aside from exhaustion of course." He pressed.
"Theodore-" Tristan wanted to retort, but Theo interrupted, already knowing what he was going to say.
"You can’t run away from this, Tristan. We need your mind here. Every single bit of your mind and soul. Not just your body. This case might just be a serious one, and we need you on your A-game." Theo explained, his voice a bit louder than before, desperate to drive his point home.
"I am on my A-game, Theodore. You can’t just say things like that." Tristan argued further, angering Theo.
"That’s a lie, Trist, and you know that, so don’t shit me. You don’t have to tell me what your problem is, but I’m gonna tell you this. Whatever is wrong with you, I implore you to shove it where the sun doesn’t shine and focus on this case with us with everything you’ve got. We have Drew to chase, a dark, annoying network to deal with, and a company to hold together; so I ask that you get your shit together." He scolded with a higher voice, staring into his brother’s eyes.
Tristan stood still before him, his jaws and fists clenched as he stared right back into his brother’s eyes. He wanted to deny, he wanted to be pissed, he wanted to punch off the defiance in his eyes, but the concern swirling in them and the fact that he wasn’t lying held him back.
Eventually, he broke their stare contest by shutting his eyes, his tense shoulders slouching as he ran his hand through his beyond tousled hair.
"Fine. You’re right."
