Chapter 104: Profiling.

"She’s out like light." Theo said as he walked into the office, lines of exhaustion etched unto his forehead and chin. "What are you doing in my seat?" He asked Tristan with furrowed eyebrows.

"Why wouldn’t I be on your seat?" Tristan asked.

" Why would you be on my seat?" Theo asked in utter confusion.

"Because for some reason, you only put one comfortable chair in all of your offices, I’m beginning to think you do it on purpose." Tristan retorted, accusation in his voice.

"That’s a lie." Theo scoffed going to sit in Tristan’s former seat, a soft groan slipping from his lips as his ass hit the incredibly stiff cushion.

"Feels good, Right?" Tristan teased, shutting his eyes.

"Fuck off." Theo swore, a bit of humor in his tone as he mirrored his brother’s position, leaving his eyes open to gaze at the ceiling.

"You’d have her tomorrow." Theo said, his eyes peering at the ceiling. " Try not to fuck her and make it exciting." He warned, his eyes drifting to Tristan for a second before going back to the ceiling.

"Yes, Mom." Tristan drawled, yawning. They all rested in the comfortable silence, soft sighs interrupting everyone in a while.

"You really need to change these seats, Theodore." Troy complained, readjusting.

"You guys know there are comfortable cushions and beds upstairs right? I suggest you go use them since you don’t like these ones." Theo responded, but no one responded, not wanting to argue with him. If he wanted to keep his hard ass seats, there was nothing they could do.

"Whatever." Troy said, letting it go. "Do you think the network had something to do with what happened today?" He asked Theo .

"Ummm ...no actually. Everything seemed in place. Nothing was weird." Theo said shaking his head as he reflected on the events of that day.

"You sure? Nothing smelt fishy? Off? Weird?" Troy asked, sitting straight in his seat, peering at Theo who could literally feel his gaze boring into his facial skin.

"I know what fishy means, Troy. And no, nothing smelt fishy. Why would something smell fishy? He simply wanted to scale the ranks, and that made perfect sense. When we tortured him, there was no confidence in his eyes, just plain fear. He’s hard headed, and greedy so it’s easy to manipulate him. But I don’t think he was manipulated, I think he was just being greedy." Theo explained, his eyes still peering at the ceiling, twitching his cheek that finally felt free as Theo averted his gaze.

"Hmm." Troy sighed, his shoulders slouching.

"Why do you think the network had something to do with this?" Theo asked, glancing sideways at him.

"Well why not? They’ve been a pain in our ass for over a month now and every attempt made to fight them has proved futile. Now, you guys get ambushed in a public space, lurking with unsuspecting humans. They know it’s perfect to scare you, knowing you wouldn’t want to transform there."

"That’s right, and I would have bought that, but we went to a crowded park before we went there, filled with not just humans but children. That place had no walls or hidden exits or staircases. And the network seems like a really ruthless gang. If they wanted to ambush us, I think the park would have been a perfect place.-"

"- Meanwhile, on the other hand we have Samuel who was greedy. He had the blue prints of that building as a ’good’ security detail, so he knew how to navigate halls and everything. He couldn’t have done that in the park despite having its blue print because such places aren’t predictable, unlike the Chocolate Palace. Think about it." Theo finished his explanation, sighing as he let his brother think deeply about everything he’d said.

After a while, Troy replied."What if he was manipulated then? What if someone planted the thought in his mind and since his brain guts are filled with greed, it’s more than perfect for the thought to grow swiftly and perfectly. Besides, I don’t think he’s smart enough to pull this kind of stuff.-"

"- If he was, he’d have known the blind spots of that building well enough and would have met the troll there, he would have used a burner phone to contact the trolls and he would have known better than to even try it in the first place, knowing we weren’t going to rest till we got to the bottom of everything." Troy made his point solidly, more than determined to drive it home.

Tristan sat up in his seat, finally understanding that this small case they had hoped had ended was actually bigger than they had thought. It didn’t scare him, it made him happy rather.

Because this might just be the opening they were looking for.

"Samuel was one of the top warriors of the pack right?" Tristan asked in a low tone that showed he meant business and that his mind was reeling.

"Yes. He was. Although he had been on the third level for a long while, for about four years." Theo said, staring at the file he had pulled up as soon as Tristan asked if Samuel was one of the top warriors.

"He’d been in the same rank for four years, that means that most of the people he’d entered with should being in higher ranks by now." Tristan pointed, his eyes staring at nothing in particular.

"Yes. " Theo said typing, while Troy listened attentively to everything they were saying, literally placing each puzzle piece by the other in his mind.

"Ten of them had graduated together, but he was the only one left in the third level." Theo stated, staring at the multiple files before him.

"So we have motive then." Troy said, adjusting in his seat. "What do we know about him, his parents, his schooling, his friends?" He asked Theo who already had the files open.

"His parents came in as rogues searching for a pack. His father was a bad gambler and his mother worked in the laundry house. His father passed from food poisoning and his mother still works in the laundry and sometimes in the kitchen." Theo said.

"Okay, what about him? You know, Samuel. Was he born here? What are the teachers reports about him?" Troy asked impatiently. Theo liked build ups and all, whereas, him and Tristan, not so much.

"Relax, you have to know his parents, as well. Helps in profiling." Theo said, rolling his eyes at their impatience.

"Yes, now we know he didn’t have a lot of money growing up and his parents were too busy for him. Now, can we know about him?" Tristan said this time, looking really bored.

"Fine. He schooled here in the pack, throughout. Teachers report says he was a bully and his parents were called severally on his account, but none of them came. He was almost expelled several times, but his mother would only come to beg when they threaten to expel him. So instead of expulsion, he was always asked to perform manual labour, and a lot of parents didn’t want him in their children’s class." Theo explained, shaking his head.

"He must have been a real pain in the ass. Did the teacher mention any marks on his body? Unaccounted wounds? I think his father might have been abusive. He was a bad gambler, he had to have had somewhere or someone to vent on." Troy said.

"I think it had to be a someone. Those gamblers are pussies. They don’t have the balls to punch a wall or a sand bag to vent. They’d need something that they can blame, something softer than a wall." Theo commented, pulling up a dozen more files.

"I wonder why Dad let them into the pack in the first place. He was a gambler, he couldn’t possibly had hidden out throughout the probation period." Troy complained, frustration lacing his voice.

"He probably accepted them because of his wife’s pleading. Definitely not because of the man." Tristan said, annoyance in his tone. "I hate men like that. I wonder what goes through their mind. I equally wonder what made his wife stick to him the whole time."

"Love, maybe?" Theo said earning scoffs from his brothers. "What? He didn’t have money, didn’t have a pack, he was a horrible gambler so he didn’t have potential either. So please tell me, what else could have made her stay? Because I know she could have easily rejected him seeing the kind of man he was." He reasoned.

"She probably found out when it was too late, plus the idea of leaving her son with him must have been terrible." Tristan responded, sighing in exhaustion.

None of his brothers had any responses to offer as t finally made sense.

Sighing, Theo clicked on the file that was finally done downloading, scrolling through it as his eyes searched for the one he wanted.

"Found anything?" Troy asked, seeing he was done scrolling.

"Yeah. " He said pulling up the file. "He came to school that day with two broken ribs, a deep tear in his thigh muscle and threw busts in his lower lip. And he had gone home fine the day before. After that, there wasn’t anymore reports." Theo said as uncomfortable silence filled the room.
