Chapter 1407: Chapter 1407: The Man She Secretly Loved
Jasmine Yale knew what kind of family she came from—what exactly was her dad’s position at the bureau?
Anyway, it was impressive.
If they wouldn’t let her come, so be it. What’s the point of going to school? She could simply stop attending.
Jasmine Yale was disheartened by her own dismal final grades.
During that time, she was hopelessly infatuated with Sylvan Cheney, often daydreaming in class, and since the teachers didn’t pay much attention to her, her academic performance suffered greatly.
In fact, whether she attended or not didn’t seem to matter; it was highly unlikely that Sylvan Cheney would fancy someone like her.
Moreover, she was much younger than him; in his eyes, she was just a student.
Every day, she was trapped in this tangle of contradictions and indecisions.
Leaving the campus, she didn’t call her family’s driver, feeling somewhat downcast.
With her poor grades, even Nancy, who often ranked at the bottom, came to scorn her.
She hung her head and kicked at the pebbles on the ground, the sun blazing intensely overhead.
With her spirits wilted, she walked along the road outside the campus, her backpack slung across her shoulders.
She didn’t know how long or how far she had walked, but somehow, she found herself standing beneath the Cheney Family Building.
Even though she had been at the Cheney Residence for several years, she had never once visited the Cheney Family offices.
This time, standing in front of the skyscraper, she looked up with a gaze filled with admiration and respect.
This was the corporation belonging to the man she secretly loved.
She was aware that the person she had feelings for was extraordinary.
It was in that moment, she felt an even deeper sense of inferiority.
He was like the stars, and she, merely a blade of grass.
Stars and grass, one high above and the other below—how could they ever stand side by side?
Yet despite this, she found herself wanting to walk through the building; she would just take a look, not wander off, not speak out of turn, not cause him any trouble.
She knew he was at the corporation, probably at work, but she didn’t know which floor his office was on. Aside from Charles Mcintosh, no one there knew her.
Unfortunately, the Cheney Family Building had strict security.
Before she could even set foot inside, she was asked to show her work badge.
"I’m not an employee here; I’m here for an errand," Jasmine Yale said with an awkward smile.
"Then miss, please comply with our sign-in procedure."
"Uh..." Jasmine hesitated, then decided, "I won’t go in."
She stepped backward, leaving the building, convinced that just looking would suffice.
Looking was also good.
She stood foolishly under the scorching summer sun, one hand shielding her eyes, gazing up at the tall building.
This was his corporation; the man she admired was incredibly impressive and capable.
Jasmine Yale smiled foolishly, revealing rows of pearly white teeth, her cheeks even purer and sweeter in the sunlight.
She had beads of sweat on the tip of her nose but didn’t mind, just stood there basking in the sun. One hand clutched her backpack strap, the other shaded her from the light.
Looking at the tall building was like seeing him.
Perhaps too engrossed, she didn’t notice a black Rolls-Royce slowly passing by her.
With a hiss, the car stopped all at once.
Soon after, a tall and lean man exited the back seat, blocking out her sunlight with his tall figure, a handsome face pressing close.
Jasmine Yale jumped back in surprise, taking two steps back, giggling nervously, "You, how come you’re here."
"I am at my corporation, why wouldn’t I be?"
"You, I..." Jasmine Yale was somewhat at a loss for words.
"How did you get here?" Sylvan Cheney narrowed his eyes at her, carrying a backpack.
"Walked, I walked here." She shuffled her feet.
"Isn’t it hot?"
"Not hot..." Jasmine Yale promptly waved her hands, scared he might scold her.
