Chapter 1400: Chapter 1400: What Did She Lose? Her Innocence
The little servant was very happy, chattering all the way.
"Just go straight down this corridor, turn left, and you’ll be there, Miss Harry. The young master is waiting for you."
Joan Harry had her hands in her coat pockets, her face as clear and frosty as the chilly air of indifference.
The sound of high heels echoed in the corridor, particularly crisp to the ear.
Turn left.
After only a few steps, the scene before her suddenly brightened.
Bright lights, of all colors, different from those outside.
Moreover, the air was filled with a shallow and faint fragrance of lilies.
Joan Harry took a few more steps and noticed that the flower room’s stands were covered with lanterns, each of different shapes.
There were Hexagonal Peach Blossom Palace Lamps, hand-painted round paper lanterns, lotus lanterns...
All sorts of styles and colors.
Joan Harry was stunned for a moment.
She had never seen so many beautiful lanterns before. This was a first for her.
The lanterns were hung on the stands and vines, and it looked like the arrangement had taken quite some time. The lighting made the flower room very bright.
Only then did she notice that the flower room was quite large, filled with various kinds of flowers and potted plants.
The light shone on the flora, giving the whole flower room a serene, yellowish hue.
Joan Harry looked up, quietly observing the lanterns.
As she looked from one to the next, her face was bathed in the lanterns’ glow.
No two lanterns were the same; each had its own unique features, some even had lantern riddles written on them.
The scent of lilies came from the dining table nearby, just a short distance from the flower room.
As her gaze drifted, she saw the lilies and Jesse Rowan.
Her hair strands hanging down, she casually tucked her hair behind her ear in silence.
Jesse Rowan had changed into a gray sweater, looking younger.
He whistled, "Come over for dinner."
Above the dining table, lanterns were hung on red strings, creating a tranquil atmosphere.
Joan Harry looked around, her gaze ultimately falling on Jesse Rowan.
Her eyes held a clear frostiness, her expression cold and indifferent, akin to winter’s ice.
The lavish dinner on the table looked exquisite.
Joan Harry admitted that the lanterns were beautiful, a pity they were given by Jesse Rowan. She didn’t care for them.
What had she lost? Her innocence.
Jesse’s bangs hung down, making him look quite docile, quite different from his usual demeanor.
Joan Harry wasn’t one to make things difficult for herself; she was hungry.
Walking to the dining table, she sat opposite Jesse Rowan and immediately picked up her chopsticks without raising her head.
"Joan, do you like the lanterns? I spent the afternoon arranging them." Jesse Rowan looked at her like a student eager for praise.
Joan Harry didn’t speak; she didn’t want to. She was tired.
She picked up her chopsticks and bowl, selected a few dishes from in front of her to eat, bowing her head and not glancing at Jesse Rowan.
In her eyes, he was like air.
After the meal, she would leave.
No matter how beautiful the lanterns were, what did they have to do with her?
She knew Jesse Rowan was full of schemes and treated other women the same way.
There was no need for her to respond to such flirtatious behavior.
"Joan, do you like lilies? If not, I won’t buy them next time."
"Joan, what do you think of this flower room? What’s missing? You can decorate it, and Koi Garden will be yours."
"Joan, how’s the food? I had our chef prepare it, my personal chef. I just don’t know if it suits your taste. Do you prefer it sweeter? Or spicier? Or maybe more sour?"
It was like a buzzing bee in Joan Harry’s ears, buzzing and buzzing.
She furrowed her brows and put her chopsticks down.
