Chapter 1292: Chapter 1292: Jasmine’s Sister’s Engagement Party
Outside was very cold, but inside the house, it was warm and cozy.
However, a spot near Jasmine Yale’s heart just couldn’t seem to warm up.
It always felt like there was an empty space.
She didn’t know when she had become like this.
She picked up Sweet Kitty from the balcony and began to doodle on the glass with her finger.
Her eyelids kept twitching nonstop—it felt like something was about to happen, but the days were calm and without ripples.
"Meow—" Sweet Kitty moved in her arms.
The little guy had gained a lot of weight and no longer looked like the way he did when she first picked him up.
Back then, he was thin and tiny, but now he was a little chubby cat.
Jasmine’s hands petted Sweet Kitty, her eyes filled with adoration.
Maybe it was because the night was deepening—her mind kept jumping to thoughts she should and shouldn’t entertain.
She had been back from Lonton for several days, but some words kept circling in her mind.
"If you really like kids, have one with Yukon Carbon. In three to five years, he’ll be hopping and jumping around just like Chaley."
"You’ll be graduating in a year and a half, right? You’re not getting any younger; it’s time to think about marriage."
She never knew Sylvan Cheney despised her to such an extent.
Even after more than a year without seeing each other, the words he spoke were still like a thorn, piercing into her heart.
Her marriage was none of his business.
Heh...
Was he afraid that she couldn’t get married and would keep bothering him?
How could that be possible.
Before she turned twenty, she thought he was her entire world, that without him, her world would be dull and colorless.
After she turned twenty, as he faded from her life, she suddenly realized that the sky hadn’t fallen and life went on just the same.
She knew she was no longer young; she had given her best years to him alone.
Now, looking back, it all seemed like a dream.
Sometimes she felt foolish, sometimes she felt infatuated.
Did she regret it?
Not much regret, really.
Jasmine played with Sweet Kitty on the balcony for a while, and when Sweet Kitty became sleepy, she put him into his little nest.
But she herself felt no sleepiness, sitting on the bed with a book in her hands and her mind wandering to who knows what.
The curtains weren’t drawn, and she could clearly see the snowflakes outside.
One after another, endless and vast.
...
Cheney Residence.
Joe Heath came over again.
It happened to be nighttime, and Butler Santana stopped him at the door, not letting him in.
"Mr. Heath, Mr. Cheney has gone to rest; why don’t you come another day?"
"It’s hardly late. I don’t believe my brother has retired for the night so early."
"Mr. Heath, Mr. Cheney hasn’t been well lately, it’s normal for him to rest earlier," Butler Santana still didn’t let him in.
"Not feeling well? What happened? I have something important to discuss with him," Joe Heath said with a mysterious air.
Just as Butler Santana was about to say something, Joe Heath slipped into the Cheney Residence unnoticed.
Nowadays, the Cheney Residence didn’t even have bodyguards; sneaking in was as easy as playing a game for him.
Sure enough, Sylvan Cheney was sitting on the sofa, not yet resting.
Sylvan’s cough hadn’t improved, and given his lack of self-restraint, he continued to smoke despite the cold, which only made his cough worse.
"What are you doing here?" Sylvan lifted his eyelids slightly.
"Obviously something important." Joe Heath leaned in, sitting on the sofa opposite Sylvan, "Big brother, I came to discuss Jasmine’s engagement party with you. I’ve received the invitation, big brother, have you gotten yours?"
Sylvan tapped his notebook and stopped for a moment, a vague expression flitting across his stern face.
He lifted his head to look at Joe Heath.
