Chapter 1224: Chapter 1224: The Beating, Healthy Little Life
Zachary Santos fetched a blanket from the car and draped it over her.
"I believe you’ll make a choice that you feel good about," Zachary Santos looked at her, "and I trust your judgement."
Ann Nolan looked up at him, "Thank you for trusting me so much."
"If I can’t even trust you that little bit, I don’t deserve to sit by your side," Zachary Santos said with determination, "I’ve bought your ticket for you. I will take care of everything, just focus on resting."
Ann Nolan looked at him gratefully.
For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.
Even a simple "thank you" seemed weak and pale.
"I won’t tell anyone about this," said Zachary Santos, "but whatever decision you make, just let me know beforehand, okay?"
Ann Nolan nodded her head.
"Good, very obedient," Zachary Santos smiled, "You don’t need to go to the office today. Just go home, pack your bags, and leave the rest to me."
"I don’t know how to thank you or..."
"There’s no need to be so formal with me. After all, we know each other, which is fate, right?"
Ann Nolan’s heart, uncertain until now, finally settled.
Since yesterday, her heart hadn’t settled, beating wildly without direction.
Now, with Zachary Santos here, she felt a sense of peace that had been long absent.
"It’s almost time for a meal. Are you hungry now? Can I take you to get something to eat?" Zachary Santos asked.
"I don’t have much of an appetite, a little will do."
"Okay, I’ll take you to a buffet restaurant. You can pick whatever you want."
Ann Nolan nodded; her face was still pale. Although she hadn’t fully recovered, her heart felt much steadier.
Wrapped in the blanket, she also felt warmer, not so cold anymore.
To her, Zachary Santos seemed like a tree, one she could rely on for shelter from the wind and rain.
Now, in the quiet, she realized she had acted impulsively.
Zachary Santos was right; she needed to think things through properly.
He took her to a buffet restaurant. On the way, Ann Nolan received a call from Jasmine Yale.
"Ann, I’m still worried about you. When you said you were coming to the UT, had you really thought it through?" Jasmine Yale sounded anxious.
"Jasmine, yes, I had my reasons. As for everything else, I’ll explain once I’m in the UT."
"I’m on winter break right now, I’ll pick you up at the Old York airport."
"That sounds good; we haven’t seen each other in a long time." Ann Nolan missed Jasmine Yale.
"When will you arrive? Did you buy your ticket?"
"I’ll arrange it and call you."
"Okay. Ann, is there something you’re not telling me?" Jasmine Yale was skeptical. If it was just a divorce, why would Ann Nolan cry?
"We’ll talk when I get to the UT."
"I’ll be waiting."
After hanging up, Ann Nolan leaned against the car window, watching the scenery pass by like a carousel.
Her hands rested under the blanket, on her abdomen.
Here was a small life, a beating, healthy little life.
She shouldn’t have been so impulsive today. Even if this child was an accident, it was still a life. She owed it enough respect to think things through thoroughly before making a decision.
...
Jasmine Yale put down the phone and played with Sweet Kitty for a while.
"Sweet Kitty, in a few days I’ll introduce you to a beautiful sister, are you happy?"
"Meow—" Sweet Kitty rubbed against Jasmine Yale with its paw, its bright eyes gazing at her, looking very happy.
