Chapter 1201: Chapter 1201: Wrapped in Sylvan Cheney’s Blanket
Her face bore traces of calm indifference; in fact, she didn’t even open her eyes, simply listening to the roaring voice in the darkness.
Yes, Zaiden Santos seemed very angry.
"Mr. Santos, you could have easily made a call to someone who cares about you instead of letting off steam here. Yes, I’m tired. I don’t want to look after you anymore. Bringing you to the hospital was the extent of my kindness. I don’t love you, so I won’t take care of you. You needn’t guilt-trip me."
"Make a call to someone who cares about me? You mean you never cared about me." The man on the other end had reached his limit; he was restraining his words and temper.
"I’m someone who wants to divorce you; do you think I would care about you?"
"Ann Nolan, you really said that."
"Are you angry? I’m angry too. Mr. Santos, why won’t you sign the papers? It’s better for everyone, isn’t it?"
"To let you be with Evan Guerrero?"
"Stop being so damn unreasonable!"
Ann Nolan had been sleeping soundly and was rudely awakened; naturally, her temper flared, especially when he mentioned Evan Guerrero’s name.
"Zaiden Santos, just do whatever you want, but if you get sick in the future, I won’t even give you a second glance."
With that, Ann Nolan hung up the phone.
She wouldn’t continue to listen to his insults in the middle of the night.
She had already done her duty by taking him to the hospital. He didn’t want to bother Harper Glorian in the middle of the night, so he clung to her, right?
She remembered how Harper Glorian had a great time at the dinner party, conversing jovially with several CEOs.
Ann Nolan laughed. Maybe Harper Glorian didn’t want Zaiden Santos anymore?
It wasn’t impossible; Harper Glorian always knew when to pull out, and since Zaiden Santos had been slow to commit, why would such a shrewd woman settle for less?
Zaiden Santos was madly in love with Harper Glorian, who, on the other hand, lived carefree and indifferent to his wellbeing.
Ann Nolan thought it over and became more convinced of this idea—that Harper Glorian didn’t want Zaiden Santos anymore.
Otherwise, why hadn’t she responded to the anonymous text Ann Nolan sent her that night?
No wonder...
This explained all of Zaiden Santos’s actions: refusing to divorce, keeping her tied down, and even shouting at her.
It was all just a game...
But why should she pay for his games?
Ann Nolan tossed and turned, struggling to fall asleep.
Moonlight streamed through the window, casting a pale yellow hue on the sky-blue curtains.
The bedroom was pitch-dark, utterly silent with no sound to be heard.
Outside the window, there was no wind, only the shimmering moonlight.
That night, Jasmine Yale at the Cheney Residence also couldn’t sleep.
Wrapped in Sylvan Cheney’s blanket, she tossed and turned, waking and sleeping intermittently.
The bedroom was quiet, and she buried herself in the warm blankets, feeling little urge to sleep.
Sylvan Cheney had told her, the plane ticket was booked for ten in the morning.
After breakfast, he would drive her to the airport.
Jasmine Yale closed her eyes, tucking her head into the blankets, her heart pounding relentlessly.
It was a long while before she felt a hint of drowsiness; in a half-conscious state, she felt a pair of hands embrace her waist.
"Mmm..." she moaned quietly, as if in a dream.
"Can’t sleep?" A man’s voice, deep and resonant like a cello in the night, sounded behind her.
Jasmine Yale couldn’t tell if she was dreaming or awake; his voice lingered in her ear.
