Chapter 56 Status recalibration
Status recalibration was a fairly uncommon occurrence that happened when a person gained more skills or skills that were too powerful for their body to handle. It only really happened to the top percentage of adventurers who had adventured for decades. So for it to happen to a farmer barely through his first year of farming… It was almost unfathomable.
The body just couldn’t handle the amount of skills he had; his body was so weak that it almost killed him. That was why his body instinctively began to correct itself and make changes. Sacrifices needed to be made, but those sacrifices would feed into other areas, improving the body's stats, statistical ratios, or fusing skills.
Danny’s instincts drove the changes that were occurring in his body. His love for his wives, his desire to provide his children with a better upbringing than he had, and his fear of not being strong enough determined his future path and the changes he would make. The first was the entire jack of trades skill tree, even the skills he hadn’t purchased. Removing the skills provided less proficiency than the skills gave, but the natural proficiency bonus was now a fundamental part of him and could be inherited by his children.
For the same reason, the tool skills tree he had rolled into what he was naturally capable of. The transition led to a slight improvement in both stats and the stat ratio. Improving the stat ratio would have allowed the body to extract more from every stat, which might have been more important than improving his stats. However, he needed to improve his stats; otherwise, this situation would have repeated itself, where his body couldn’t contain the powerful skills.
Quality over quantity, and harder and faster were absorbed into the farming skill. The effect was the same, but combining into a single skill freed up more room for the future, although the skill didn’t upgrade into a new, higher-tier skill; his farming skill was already better than most, and it was very, very close to upgrading. The stat-increasing skill tree was removed, increasing his stats by about half of what the skills provided, but once again, the stats gained through skills didn’t calculate for child inheritance. It was a loss for the body but a gain for all his future children.
The problem was… It still wasn’t enough; the body was still too full of energy and was going to cascade into failure if more changes weren’t made. That was why the body combined every single sexual related skill while removing the ones he hadn’t purchased yet, along with similar skills involving his children's growth to create two new skills. Each skill was weaker than the combined skills; the body would get less benefit from them, but his wives and children would get more. That was the trade-off.
The combination also left behind plenty of excess energy, which was quickly applied to the body's stats and stat ratio. If anyone were currently viewing the body, they’d see it grow in size while the changes were being applied. The energy was expended, but it was a small miracle that a common non-combat class managed to survive a status recalibration. Not only survive, but gain many benefits while not losing too much, which wasn’t always the case.
Sometimes, the person just loses skills without gaining anything, and the truly unfortunate die. The body was only capable of so much, but by going through a status recalibration, it would break its limits. Everything about the body improved as his potential increased beyond what was possible before. The body also made the stat boosts from modifiers apply to the character to remove some of the excess clutter. The body wasn’t sure why the person hadn’t changed something that instinctively annoyed him… But because it was the instinct's choice, it chose to change that.
