Chapter 57 What happened to me?

I woke up in bed, I passed out at some point, and it had been long enough that it was now the middle of the night. All of my wives were draped over me, but I didn’t know what happened. One moment, I was choosing a skill; the next, I woke up in bed hours later. What the fuck happened? Well… It’s the middle of the night, I guess I’ll find out in the morning.

The next morning I was woken up by my wives, specifically Cherry, who was making a much bigger deal about what happened than the rest. “Do you know what just happened!?” She practically screamed at me when she woke up. I was still groggy from waking up, so I didn’t know what she was talking about. “I just passed out, I don’t even know why.”

She looked at me, confused. “Really? Did you look at your status page yet?” I popped it open before looking at the sudden changes as my heart dropped. “Where the fuck did all my skills go!?” Cherry looked at me in confusion before asking. “Really? You really don’t know? Status recalibration doesn’t just happen by accident, I thought you must have been working on it to pull it off at your rarity.”

I could only look at her in confusion as I asked. “Status recalibration?” She went from slightly irritated to shocked as she figured out I wasn’t joking. She started to explain. “Status recalibration isn’t a bad thing; in fact, it separates the good adventurers from the great.” She took a few seconds to collect her thoughts before she continued.

“Imagine you and another person are at a similar level, except you’ve gone through status recalibration and they haven’t. You’re going to be at least ten percent stronger than them just from the minimum stat ratio change that occurs from the recalibration. At higher levels, that could feel like the difference of four or five points, and that’s only at the weakest ratio increase. On top of all that, people who have gone through recalibration can raise their stats more easily than someone who hasn’t.”

I asked. “And how do you determine how much your ratio has shifted?” “Well, there’s the old-fashioned way if you knew what your limits were before, but there are also stat ratio calculators, I think my father has one, let’s go and speak with him.”

Meanwhile… Leaf’s Point of View

I felt different when I woke up, but couldn’t put my finger on what changed. I was halfway through my breakfast salad with thinly sliced venison, I caught myself on top before I decided to check my status and see if I could find out why I felt different… The stats I was gaining through my lover had gone up by more than double, and my mouth hung open as the fork fell from my grasp.

I couldn’t help but smile at the change. Next time I see him, I’m going to drain him dry.

“So, that’s the whole story, Papa.” I found it slightly strange for Cherry to call her father such a childish name, but as I was an orphan and a man, I was probably a bad judge when it came to things like that. He left us in the hallway as he opened up the attic and jumped up.

It was almost a secret room that only someone who could jump ten feet up could reach, and he cleared it, possibly jumping closer to twenty feet to make it up without grabbing the ledge. It sank in once again that yes, he is extremely strong. It had me curious about how high I could jump, as it wasn’t something I attempted every day.

He came back down holding a device as he moved toward me. I was confused again as he grabbed my finger and cut it without speaking. “Mother fu-.” “You best watch your language in front of my grandchildren.” I got the feeling that he didn’t like me for some reason. I guess I did take his daughter from him… In that same thought process, I helped stop his wife and daughter from being taken by bandits so…

The blood he took quickly entered the device as it made three beeps. I noticed his expression change from irritated to surprise once the beep happened, then to shock at the other beeps. “Wow, not only did you really have a recalibration, but it’s thirty percent… That’s… Kind of unbelievable.” I asked out of curiosity. “What does that mean?”

“Alright…” He tried to think of how to explain it to someone who didn’t know anything about high-level adventuring. “As a non-combat class, you’re stat growth is fairly straightforward. You’re guaranteed to go up a single point in all your stats, going from the hundred levels of common, two stats for the hundred levels in uncommon, and so on. That isn’t the case for combat classes or some uncommon classes. Most combat classes are guaranteed to go up anywhere from two to five in their primary stat, more than one point in their secondary stat, and anywhere from half a point to an entire point in their other skills.”

“Now, let’s put that into play. You’re now an uncommon warrior, and you’re strength is over ten. You go to fight another warrior who’s recalibrated and also has similar stats to yours, even with just a ten percent ratio, he’ll easily defeat you nine times out of ten, just because his stats are worth more than yours. It lets people punch above their rarity, and you compound that with multiple recalibrations, the king and his sons are said to have over a two in their ratio, which means they get twice the effect out of stats as someone who’s never gone through a calibration… Which is why it’s incredibly odd that a common non-combat class has gone through a calibration… I’ve never heard of it happening before, and I’m a well-seasoned adventurer.”

“In some extremely rare cases, I’ve heard of non-combat classes recalibrating, and even more rare is a common combat class recalibrating… But never a common non-combat class.” He wiped off the blood from the machine as I licked my finger and began casting a healing spell on myself. It would heal from a good nights sleep or a good fucking, but I honestly didn’t want it to get dirt in where the skin would heal over it.

He smiled at my wives and children as he asked. “Any other questions?” Hamy stood up and walked toward him, causing the smile to drop off his face. “How!?” I hadn’t really looked at my skills recently, I only checked and saw that I was missing a bunch. I quickly looked again and saw the two new skills that were a combination of the skills I lost, but also slightly different. The children were getting my stat boost now as well, and my wives were guaranteed fifty percent of my stats.

It meant that my children were easily twice as strong as they should be, as walking should still be impossible for them, except that stats were pulling overtime, making it possible already. I breathed out as I spoke. “Well… Please don’t tell anyone but… I have a skill that lets my family members gain a portion of my stats.”

There was a brief pause before Marcus wondered out loud. “I wonder why I haven’t gotten the stat boost.”
