Chapter 997: Chapter 599 Komeer Kingdom’s Scheme
"Your Highness," Gaven swiftly gathered all sorts of intelligence in his mind, but this did not impede him from performing the most standard Thacel noble etiquette towards the future heir to the throne of the Komeer Kingdom.
Due to his multiple identities, people had various titles for Gaven. Those from the Valley, depending on his position, often called him Duke or Lord, naturally stemming from Ilmet, Lord of the Battle Valley, who had awarded him a title in the Three Rivers Region.
The Thacel migrants would address him as Baron or Lord, a title originating from his position with the Nort Family.
In Komeer, he was referred to as General because he was the supreme commander of the Conqueror Army, especially concerning both the Princesses in this area.
"General, no need for such formalities," Princess Tainalasta returned with the most perfect Komeer noble etiquette, "I have also brought our apologies from Komeer. We should not have turned you and your migrant caravan away, but your size was simply too great and posed a threat to our kingdom, forcing us to prioritize our security."
"Your Highness, there is no need for explanation, I understand. Were our positions reversed, I would have done the same," Gaven said sincerely.
From the very beginning, they did not expect to be able to borrow the East Road from Komeer; getting access through the Rocklands was already quite fortunate.
Especially as circumstances evolved, the nature of the Conqueror Army had changed.
It was no longer merely about migration but had undertaken a conqueror’s purpose, closely linked to Lady Strategy’s ascension. Now, even if Komeer was willing to lend the East Road, he would not take it.
In the scheme of the Goblin Margins, their Conqueror Army was absolutely the protagonist. If they left, the entire scheme would collapse.
"General, you are indeed as wise as the Archmage described," the Crown Princess praised Gaven, "however, we have a compromise. You can form a convoy of no more than a thousand people to cross the East Road in batches to return to the Valley."
"Thank you, Your Majesty and Your Highness, for your mercy, which we will remember from top to bottom," Gaven responded joyfully, resolving an urgent problem.
The burden imposed by the Giant Dragon Coast Allied Forces had been mostly addressed, but certain parts, like the elderly and the young, remained without solutions.
Their strategy was focused on the East Road, thus the high-stakes visit to High Corner Fort. Gaven had previously been brainstorming how to persuade the Komeer Kingdom, and it came as a relief that they had taken the initiative.
"I would like to invite the General for a private walk if I may have that honor," the Crown Princess extended an invitation to Gaven.
It was clear she was on a mission, ill-suited for others to overhear.
"It would be my honor," Gaven naturally accepted, quite interested to learn the intentions of the Komeer Kingdom this time.
The previous positions of non-assistance declared by the Court Archmage had shifted, undoubtedly related to the demonstrated strength of the Conqueror Army, which revealed new points of interest to them.
"Please," Princess Tainalasta dismounted, extending her right hand.
Gaven followed her cues, grasping her right hand directly. The rings on their clasped hands lit up with a soft magic aura, enveloping them both. By the time the aura dissipated, they were no longer in their original locations.
However, they hadn’t been transported far, instead appearing at the topmost structure of High Corner Fort, from where they could easily overlook both the interior and exterior.
The defenses of High Corner Fort were not merely outer but also substantial inner guards. Moreover, there was a large military camp inside.
Currently, the camp buzzed with activity as countless Purple Dragon Knights in purple armor and War Mages in close-combat robes moved in and out, clearly not the regular forces of the fort.
Gaven was correct, the Crown Princess had not come alone but led an elite legion.
"General, do you know what awaits you in the Goblin Margins?" Princess Tainalasta questioned first.
"I do," Gaven nodded, "an emissary from Sambia has already entered Tun Marsh with gifts and hasn’t emerged yet. A large number of lizardfolk are gathering towards the swamp’s center. I believe the self-proclaimed Lizard Queen, a Black Dragon, is being persuaded to prepare an ambush against us.
Meanwhile, the Santarin Association’s Dark Castle is rallying forces in the Sunset Mountain Range, the Grey Watcher Mountains, and the Goblin Margins, comprising goblins, hobgoblins, jackalweres, and trolls, forming a Monster Tribe.
When we cross the Goblin Margins, we will face a pincer attack."
To know your enemies and yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles.
This is the first rule of Lady Strategy’s Path of War.
Knowing that a trap awaited them in the Goblin Margins, how could Gaven and his forces not take action?
Their scouts and spies had long been scattered in the Goblin Margins, closely watching every move of all forces there and collecting as much intelligence as possible.
On the surface, Gaven and his team had a clear grasp of scenario, but finer details such as the specific combat abilities of the Lizard Queen, the forces she commanded, and the total monster power Dark Castle could mobilize remained unknown.
