Chapter 996: Chapter 598 Crown Princess_3
The person in question was the famed Crown Princess Tainalasta, a paragon of Komeer femininity.
Although King Yasan IV of Komeer Kingdom was known for his many romantic scandals, claiming to have as many lovers as he had spies scattered across the Felen Continent, in the royal palace he had only one wife, Queen Felfaril, who bore him his two daughters, the very ones before us now.
The succession to the throne in Komeer Kingdom did not follow a male-only preference, instead, it abided by the order of seniority. As the eldest daughter of Yasan Kingdom, Princess Tainalasta was born the heir to the throne and was raised from childhood to be the future monarch of Komeer Kingdom.
She did not disappoint the people’s expectations and showed qualities befitting a crown heir and a future queen in every aspect. From the age of fifteen, she began assisting King Yasan in governing the kingdom, and now, after thirteen years, she was well-regarded among the noble knights and widely supported among the common folk.
She spent half of each year on behalf of her father, moving between the rural villages and cities of Komeer Kingdom. She dealt with the corruption and misconduct of the Komeer barons and nobility, as well as the trivial issues of the rural villagers; she never turned a blind eye to any problem that came her way.
Her approach was always fair, just, and not lacking in compassion, tailored to each situation and person. When necessary, she would even petition King Yasan to amend outdated, illegal, or unreasonable kingdom laws.
Such actions granted her an immensely high level of popularity and prestige. Not that she could satisfy everyone, but she managed to have the majority of Komeer Kingdom on her side.
Everyone was convinced that the Kingdom of Komeer had a worthy successor, and its prosperity would persist at its peak for a century or even longer.
However, from what Gaven knew of history, it all came to an end in the year 1371. Geznaise, the ancient adversary of Komeer, a terrifying and nefarious existence capable of devouring magic, invoked a Monster Army powerful enough to rend the nation and unleashed the ancient Demon Dragon Nalafarosa from Hell.
King Yasan perished together with the ancient Demon Dragon, and Crown Princess Tainalasta, leading the military and citizens of Komeer, defeated Geznaise and his Monster Army. But she herself was cursed by the demon, expending all her strength just to save the child within her womb, while her own soul was dragged into Hell, beyond the reach of even the Wish Spell.
As for the Court Archmage, he was trapped in a conspiracy by Geznaise and could not take part in the battle.
That battle became known as the Dragon’s Calamity and it sent the fate of the Komeer Kingdom down an uncertain path. Amidst such chaos, Yalusai was forcibly appointed as Regent King. He was to protect and guide the unborn child of Tainalasta, the future King of Cormier, until he came of age.
"I just happened to be inspecting the nearby area and heard that General Gaven’s Conqueror Army had arrived, so I came to take a look and to check if you, cheeky monkey, have stirred up any big trouble." In the presence of Yalusai, the perfect smile of the Crown Princess grew even more warm and indulgent, a true reflection of her feelings rather than a routine facade.
The Obysque Royal Family’s straightforward method of nurturing successors has its pros and cons.
The downside, as mentioned in history, is that if the nurtured heir and the king both meet unexpected misfortune, it can result in a difficult succession.
The advantage is that it tends to foster amicable relations among the heirs, at least during their teenage years before the corruption of power sets in, keeping brother-sister relationships relatively normal and reducing the likelihood of disaster within the walls.
Even if a non-traditional heir harbors ulterior motives, given the education they receive from childhood and the unequal distribution of resources, it is difficult for them to pose any substantial threat to the rightful heir. A prime example was when Yasan IV ascended to the throne; his regent uncle refused to relinquish power and aimed to usurp the throne. But even though King Yasan had just come of age, without much effort, he shattered his uncle’s rebel government and ascended the Komeer throne, initiating an unprecedented era of prosperity.
Of course, this also has to do with personal disposition. Some crave royal power, others have a deep love for adventure, and there are those who prefer the life of an idle royal.
Yalusai exemplified this. Her upbringing and innate personality made her favor battle, the study of military strategies, and the thrill of fighting in the most perilous situations. She harbored a deep dislike for court life, idle gossip, and endless banquets.
This was where she most admired her elder sister, who, despite sharing an equal disdain for such a lifestyle and a preference for a peaceful pastoral life, managed to handle everyone with the sweetest smiles and leave the best impression. In this regard, she was truly a monster.
"Sister, don’t call people by their nicknames in front of others," Yalusai unwittingly let slip her endearing side.
Only she believed Princess Tainalasta’s excuse wholeheartedly. Gaven didn’t buy it at all; it was certainly not a coincidence that she was nearby, but rather that she came personally to meddle in this grand affair at the behest of King Yasan.
If the Conqueror Army could completely destabilize the situation in the Goblin Margins, then the stalled western expansion plan of the Komeer Kingdom could be put back on the agenda.
He even had reason to suspect that accompanying the Crown Princess was a battalion of Komeer’s Elite troops.
This served two purposes: it provided defense against an attack on their western gate by the Conqueror Army, and, when necessary, they could cross through the mountain tunnels and appear in the Goblin Margins.
Whether a spectator or a chess player on the board, everything was at the discretion of Komeer Kingdom, with perfect freedom to advance or retreat.
That the Obysque Royal Family had endured for a hundred years was clearly no fluke; their noble lineage and exemplary royal upbringing were indispensable.
