Chapter 968: Chapter 589: Shadow Messenger_2

Unfortunately, a Devil, especially a powerful Devil Lord, was far more cautious than the Demons. After barely reassembling Hell’s Summoning Gate, he did not rashly extend a part of his body through it. Instead, he used it as a megaphone, bellowing in anger, "Do you have any idea who I am? How dare you destroy my sacred projection and steal the soul that belongs to me? I will..."

Realizing it was impossible to derive any direct benefits from this Devil Lord, and fearing that he might steal Daphne’s soul in the process and thus learn his true identity, Gaven did not hesitate to swing the Fine Gold Hammer once again, smashing it down on Hell’s Summoning Gate, regardless of who it was—even if it was the Lord of Hell himself, the hammer would fall just the same.

"How dare you..." the Devil Lord, besides roaring in anger, had very limited options. After all, his adversary was capable of slaying his Evil Beast Spirit, and the power he projected through Hell’s Summoning Gate was hardly stronger than that of the Evil Beast Spirit; it was like delivering himself to the enemy on a plate.

In the past, it was always he who outmaneuvered others. When had he ever suffered such a loss? He roared furiously, "I swear, I will find you all, bring you all into Hell, and subject you to every excruciating torture that Hell has to offer, I..."

Gaven was ruthless, swinging the Fine Gold Hammer relentlessly and shattering Hell’s Summoning Gate to pieces, not even giving the Devil Lord the chance to continue his threats.

What was interesting, though, was that from the beginning, this Devil Lord had demanded of Gaven if they knew who he was, yet never once disclosed his identity.

Such was the consistent style of Devils.

To make outright threats—that was the way of the Demons.

Devils preferred to hide in the dark, revealing their identities only at the moment they delivered a lethal blow to their enemies.

However, what this Devil Lord did not know was that Gaven had amongst them a Legendary Six-armed Snake Demon from the Lower Plane. Once they could no longer hear his voice, Gaven asked, "Did you recognize the commotion of which Devil Lord?">

Since the other party had asked if Gaven knew who he was, it definitely wasn’t some nobody but someone with a real name in Hell.

Though both belonging to the Lower Plane, the Devils of The Nine Hells were different from the Demons of the Bottomless Abyss. The Nine Hells were governed by the order of Law, with a complete ruling class. Each layer was a complete realm, ruled by an Archduke of Devil. They even had their own laws, which, however barbaric, harsh, and inhumane they seemed to ordinary people, were the laws of the land.

Thus, the ruling structure was practically set in stone. The Nine Hells had largely remained unchanged since their formation. Over ten thousand years, only two Archdukes of Devil had been replaced, one of whom was still in a constant state of upheaval.

"The voice of Mammon, the Archduke of the third layer, the embodiment of greed and desire. You should have felt the aura that emanated from him. Compared to the voice, this aura is much more accurately identifiable," answered the Six-armed Snake Demon without hesitation.

"Had you not mentioned it, I might not have noticed, but that’s indeed the case," Gaven acknowledged, recalling the aura that seeped from the other side of Hell’s Summoning Gate, filled with endless greed and desire, which even he couldn’t help being influenced by.

Recently, he had provoked some formidable figures, first the Bottomless Abyss Lord and now an Archduke of Devil.

But then again, this was the inevitable consequence of growing in strength.

His chances of dealing with common bandits, thieves, or Goblin Tribes were practically gone.

They would flee as far as they could upon hearing of his approach, or rather, he could easily wipe them out with a simple scouting cavalry detachment.

Unless their scale was large enough to form an army.

On the other hand, opportunities to engage with these Demon Lords and Archdukes of Devil were increasing, and provoking each and every one of them was not a rare occurrence.

As a Lord, sheltering the souls of his lieges from the clutches of Demons and Devils would be his sacred and inescapable duty.

The representatives and powers of Demons and Devils in the Material Plane were far more numerous and potent than ordinary people might imagine; it was just that they lacked the privilege of this knowledge. By the time they acquired it, their souls would be either in the Bottomless Abyss or The Nine Hells.

While mulling over these thoughts, Gaven stood leaning on his Fine Gold Hammer and said to Daphne, "She will be your first test subject. Use the Binding Array to bind her Shadow with her corpse."

Gaven did not intend to turn Grace into a True Wraith. While doing so could ensure absolute control, it would also come with significant limitations, particularly in terms of mobility.

While Daphne, due to being an Earthbound Knight, had her range of movement extended to a certain extent, she was still confined to Efanso, which destined her role to be primarily domestic; he still needed a core individual to play an external role.

In her dealings with the Conqueror Army, Grace had already proven her capabilities as a remarkable negotiator. Had it not been for an intrinsic conflict of interest, Gaven might well have been persuaded by her.

In hindsight, based on information collected afterwards, the success of Arms’s Undead Regime in ruling over Efanso for so long owed half its credit to her; she handled most of its external affairs.
