Chapter 967: Chapter 589: Shadow Messenger
"I never asked Arms that question; is it important to discuss it now?" Gaven found the question utterly meaningless, whether it was innate or an acquired replacement, it was all the same.
"To you, perhaps not, but to me, it’s very important." Grace said solemnly, "Arms raised me, taught me. If, from the beginning, he was being impersonated by an Evil Beast Spirit, then so be it. But if the real Arms was replaced halfway through, where did the real Arms go?"
"You probably won’t get an answer to that question," Gaven said helplessly, spreading his hands, "That Evil Beast Spirit has been completely destroyed by me; not even ashes remain. There’s simply no way to answer your question."
Daphne suggested from the side, "There is an indirect way to verify this, and that is for you to perform the Complete Resurrection Spell to try to revive Arms, to see if it is possible to get a response."
"That is a method, but I am some distance away from being able to perform Ninth Ring Spells." Grace’s face was filled with helplessness. She was a Level Fifteen Necromancer, still three Professional Levels short of Quasi-Legendary, which was capable of casting Ninth Ring Spells.
"It’s better to have hope than none at all. If Arms really was replaced, chances are he’s long been dead and won’t mind dying a few more years." Gaven’s icy words pulled Grace back to reality, "Instead of worrying about a dead man, you should be focusing on your own problems now."
This Death Viper demonstrated considerable self-control. Talking about her own issues, she reverted to the calmness she had initially, "This matter has already been out of my control for a long time. The one to ask should be Lord, how do you plan to deal with me? I suppose you don’t intend to simply let me go, do you?"
Gaven couldn’t help but reveal a slight smile, "It’s easy to speak with a smart person. Although the Evil Beast Spirit is dead, the demon that made it is still around, meaning the demonic mark on you is still there, so you’ll have to die once. But rest assured, Ms. Daphne will perform Resurrection on you because you can create value for me as long as you’re alive."
"Okay," Grace agreed briskly.
She had no choice in the matter; her only hope was that she still held value to Gaven, so that he wouldn’t just watch her be dragged into Hell by a demon.
"This poison is called Kiss of Revenge. Aside from a slight bitterness, it won’t bring additional pain; I assure you that you will die within seconds." Daphne very thoughtfully handed over a bottle of poison, the same one she had used to end her own life and been bound as a Soul Prison by Gaven. It was ironic that today she was assisting someone else down the same path.
Grace took the Dwarven poison without hesitation and drank it down in one gulp.
The poison worked just as Daphne had described. Even as a Level Fifteen Necromancer, after drinking the whole bottle of Kiss of Revenge, she could only meet her death.
The moment the female Necromancer breathed her last, Hell’s Summoning Gate appeared above her head as expected. But before it could take effect, a warhammer wreathed in gray mist heavily slammed down upon it.
Crack!
Hell’s Summoning Gate, as if it were a tangible object, shattered on the spot.
The warhammer was none other than the Undead Artifact Whore Slayer, recently acquired by Gaven.
The realm of Undead Vengeance possessed the ability to terminate Hell’s Summoning Gate. Not to mention the Fine Gold Hammer imbued with the Undead Divine Spark; when it came to snatching souls, it had absolute priority, a sure strike with every blow.
Roar! Roar! Roar!
Furious roars were transmitted even through the Plane Barrier. The shattered Hell’s Summoning Gate, under the pull of an invisible force, was forcibly pieced back together.
The Evil Beast Spirit had a maxim that went, "If you die by my hand the first time, it’s on you; if you die by my hand a second time, it’s on me."
Put simply, the same trap wouldn’t be stepped into twice, not only the maxim of the Evil Beast Spirits but also that of their masters, the Devil Lords.
The Devil Lord behind Arms had just suffered a major setback here, furiously itching in Hell, scheming to remedy the loophole, only for the same situation to reoccur with a presence identical to the previous one, obviously the arm of the same person.
A moment for monks, a breath for men.
What they lacked wasn’t just that single soul, it was the issue touching the lifeline of their vast chain of interests.
For the Bottomless Abyss and The Nine Hells, souls were not only hard currency but also the foundation of their existence. When the world no longer had souls falling into the Abyss and Hell, it wouldn’t be long until these bastions of evil were emptied and closed.
The Lord of the Abyss personally intervened for the soul of a Two-Headed Troll, well, destruction also counts as intervention, and so much more for a Devil Lord.
Seeing this situation, Gaven was not alarmed but elated, almost ready to shout, "Shut the door and unleash the dogs!"
The power of this summoning mark was very limited; it couldn’t withstand a Devil Lord coming through, at most it could transfer a part of their power like a Double-Headed Baboon.
They had the capability to sever the tentacles of the Bottomless Abyss Lord; so, why fear part of a Devil Lord’s power? Even the strength of Lord Asmodeus of Hell wasn’t much compared to that of a Double-Headed Baboon, perhaps even less, as after all, the demons of Hell are best at conniving and conspiracies, not as strong as the demons in head-on confrontations.
