Chapter 965: Chapter 588: Forming a Secret Union_2
The so-called Secret Guild, like the Dark Alliance of the Giant Dragon Coast, is part of the Thief Guild, when the time comes, the tasks they engage in will be anything but simple, such as collecting intelligence or secret escorting, assassination techniques will undoubtedly be a necessity.
"I authorize you to organize our Secret Guild here, and swear direct loyalty to me," Gaven never fancied himself a paragon of virtue, having wallowed in the quagmire of the Santarin Association for over a decade, it was already a feat to remain untainted, and he was very clear about the necessity of establishing his own Secret Guild and forces.
The predominant rule over the Felen Continent was not in the hands of the benevolent, a significant part was within the clutches of various secret organizations and guilds, not necessarily evil, but certainly not the epitome of justice either; the governing model of the Giant Dragon Coast was not just a microcosm of Felen Continent but even that of the entire Toril Plane.
In such secret confrontations, many times, armies were of no use; to thoroughly eradicate the opposition, one should first find them, and these secret organizations have not just one or two lairs, but a network spread across the world.
He had previously wanted to form his own Secret Guild, but he lacked the sufficient manpower, resources, and suitable personnel.
All that had been missing was now available thanks to Efanso, and at the Giant Dragon Coast, as long as there was enough financial power, those villainous enforcers would come a-knocking like flies drawn to an odor.
"I will certainly not disappoint your trust, Lord," Daphne’s eyes shimmered with unabashed joy, the power granted was neither too great nor too trivial, depending on how she would develop it.
On this matter, she was quite confident, for as a Dwarves Elf, she was skilled in the manipulation of such secret organizations, including the likes of Evil Cults.
"Let’s hear your specific concept for this secret organization, do you need any additional help from me?" His granting of autonomy to Daphne did not mean he would neglect oversight.
"There is one thing that indeed requires the Lord’s consent, I wish to select a fraction of the Elite from among those Shades, especially the Dwarves Elves, resurrect them, and form the initial foundation for the Secret Guild," Daphne was obviously well-prepared in this aspect.
"It’s not that it cannot be done, but how do you ensure their loyalty? And how can you be sure they will respond to your resurrection?" Gaven’s contingent of Dwarves Elves mainly consisted of two groups: one was the followers of the Undying Goddess of Vengeance, and the other the believers of the Masked Sovereign Velen, these were his enemies, and resurrection, apart from requiring a Transcendent Priest to perform the Resurrection Technique, also required consent from the individual involved, for during the process the resurrected souls would feel a direct connection to the priest resurrecting them.
"Resurrection is straightforward; handling the followers of the Undying Goddess of Vengeance myself, and as for the Velen Believers, within our True Wraith, there is a Velen Sacrificer also possessing the ability to perform Resurrection," Daphne answered, "As for the loyalty, that’s also manageable. We can use binding Magic to rebind the resurrected to their Shade, with this, we get multiple benefits; they can fight alongside their own Shade, we can monitor their every move via the Shade, and should they betray us, the Shade can immediately slay them through the binding Magic, replacing them with a True Wraith."
"Good strategy," Gaven praised without end, "Not only can these Dwarves Elves be surveilled and controlled through this method, it can even become the standard for joining the inner circle of our Secret Guild. In recruiting members, we can start from there, especially those who died unjustly. We can offer resurrection and assistance in their revenge in exchange for their loyalty. Such individuals, I believe, are plentiful on the Giant Dragon Coast, and they will staunchly stand with us against the local Dark Forces."
"Your Lordship’s suggestion is excellent, please also grace this guild with a name," Daphne didn’t rush to name the Secret Guild this time.
"Do you have any good recommendations?" Gaven had always been rather indifferent in this area.
"How about ’Black Wing’? It implies their unique abilities, as well as alludes to your Lordship’s black wings," Daphne chose a name with double meaning.
"That will do," Gaven concurred at once, finding the name neither too convoluted nor too ordinary. After all, it was merely a symbol for distinction; once one gets used to it, it’s all the same, "Initially, I will allocate one million Gold Coins and ten Ghost Cloaks as the startup capital for the Secret Guild, the remaining funds will be drawn from the Conqueror Guild, tentatively set at fifty percent of the pure profits."
It goes without saying that most Secret Guilds inherently have profit-making natures, sometimes exorbitantly so; many of them are collusions of goons gathered for mutual benefits, but this process needs time to establish, and a normal development through several years, or even decades, is rather ordinary, many even requiring generations of management.
To skip this prolonged initial accumulation phase, Gaven and his allies could only resort to financial muscle.
"That will be plenty," Daphne declared with full confidence.
"Any further plans for growth?" Gaven pressed on with the agenda.
"Further development needs to be combined with Yeshandalah and her re-establishment of Efanso, but most importantly, the progress of your Conqueror Army is paramount. The bigger and more successful endeavors you make, the smoother my work here will proceed, and vice versa," Daphne turned the matter back to Gaven and the Conqueror Army’s end.
