Chapter 930: Chapter 576: As Expected_3
"That’s about right," Gaven nodded, "I think I already know what tactics the enemy is preparing to use against us. Regardless of whether they are targeting us or not, we cannot sit idly by. We must mobilize a portion of our forces to return and prepare for various situations, Lord, please forgive me for not being able to stay longer."
Serlemon nodded in understanding, "Duke, do not worry about me. Go ahead and start preparing. I too need to return to Yewen Pond and continue to monitor those Koutao Fishmen to prevent any further movements."
"Then I will have to trouble you, Lord. If my speculation is wrong, and these Koutao Fishmen and that makeshift Undead are not coming for us, please be sure to send someone to notify us in time. We certainly will not ignore the situation. Though we may not be able to dispatch the main army, we can still draw a portion of the Elite," Gaven solemnly promised.
"Certainly," Serlemon agreed.
Setting aside how Gaven selected soldiers for troop movements, Serlemon rode his Pegasus without rest in the direction he had come from. Before reaching the Sanbo River, he bumped head-on into his own Elite squad.
This indicated that after leaving the Sanbo River, the Koutao Fishmen were rushing towards the Three Rivers Region, something the Sword of the Deep Forest also confirmed.
However, after the visit to the Three Rivers Region, Serlemon’s anxiety had somewhat subsided.
If this group of Koutao Fishmen were truly targeting Weizemay New Village, it would be better than them attacking the people in other areas of the valley.
In the Sanbo River, constrained by the width of the river and the depth of the water, these Koutao Fishmen had moved in a long serpent-like formation. After entering Yewen Pond, with ample open water, they had completely converged into a large military force.
The exact number was impossible to estimate, but it was known that they spanned over a kilometer in length and width. When they swam together toward Weizemay New Village, a massive wave gathered beside them, growing larger and larger until, by the time it reached the shore, the wave was over six meters high.
The scene resembled these Koutao Fishmen using the waves as their Strength.
Indeed, this was the Priesthood of the Koutao Fishmen, making use of the Koutao Fishmen’s innate ability to manipulate water, in combination with their own specialized Magic casting ability to stir the water. The more Koutao Fishmen there were, the bigger the water movements they could generate.
This Koutao Fishmen army directly controlled this colossal wave, slamming it heavily toward Weizemay New Village on the banks of Yewen Pond.
The first row of stone buildings, standing like a wall, took the brunt of impact.
Bang!
The giant wave hit fiercely and solidly.
Serlemon and the rest of the Deep Forest Valley Soldiers couldn’t help but widen their eyes, their hearts leaping to their throats.
The wave was indeed not small; even after losing some of its force upon reaching shore and arriving at the base of the buildings, it was still over four meters high. Not to mention these construction buildings, even some small towns’ city walls couldn’t withstand the pounding of such a giant wave, let alone after including the control of Magic Force.
"Good!" The more intense the previous worries had been, the more vigorous the following cheers.
The stone buildings hit by the giant wave stood unmoved, like cliffside precipices.
What the Deep Forest Valley Soldiers didn’t know was that, lacking steel reinforcement as a core support, these buildings were constructed by the Gnolls in their most skilled method: ensuring the walls were thick enough. Once constructed, the buildings were then joined and reinforced with Stone Shaping. Especially this row facing outward had to double as a city wall for a short time.
Thus, the outer walls were three times thicker than those of regular buildings, every inch inside and out had been fortified with the Stone Shaping Spell.
Without exaggeration, this building was now one entity; knocking it down with a wave of four or five meters was impossible, and even with waves of fourteen or fifteen meters, it would, at most, be submerged and not destroyed.
Instead, the wave heading for the new village was diverted, with most of it blocked, but three streams surged straight down the wide East-West street for hundreds of meters into the new village. The lake water that rushed into the new village did not return but instead diminished as it advanced until it vanished entirely.
Some was diverted by the streets, but most of it poured directly into Weizemay New Village’s extensive drainage system.
As the blocked lake water receded, it exposed the Controllers, squat and robust, fish-headed humanoid figures covered in dense scales, slimy to the touch, holding various unusual weapons in their hands.
Some held enormous shields carved from bone, gummy as though smeared with glue, seemingly dripping yet never falling. These were the Koutao Fishmen’s unique viscous shields, not only capable of sticking to enemy weapons but if slapped on enemies or prey, could also adhere to them. This stickiness was effective not only on land but also underwater.
Some wielded large hooks, curved with barbs like a butcher’s hook, while in the other hand, they held harpoons with ropes.
Most carried a weapon known as a Pincer Staff - a wooden handle with an attached pincer that could open and close. Once it snagged an enemy’s neck or arm, a mechanism inside would clamp down tightly on contact. The more one pulled in either direction, the tighter the grip became.
Compared to lethal weapons, the Koutao Fishmen preferred these capturing tools, a habit retained from their days as slaves when they needed to capture more slaves for their masters. Even though they had since regained their freedom, this habit had not changed.
But one should not underestimate the power of such equipment. Combined with their naturally formidable brute force, they could be efficient killers.
That is, if they could find an enemy.
Receiving an early warning from Serlemon, Weizemay New Village was deserted, with no sign of the throng of Gnolls anywhere in sight.
