Chapter 895: Chapter 565: Far-Reaching Impact
The person arranging the tactical deployment turned out to be Katherine, who had just arrived at the Conqueror Army. It wasn’t that she was overshadowing others, but under such circumstances, the person ranked right after Gaven was Veranika. Normally, in the absence of Gaven, it should have been her calling such a wartime emergency meeting. However, her dual identity dictated that when the Lady Strategy, the first of the Chosen, was present, her opinions were to be heeded.
And once Katherine spoke up, there was no chance for anyone else to pitch in. Everyone wholeheartedly accepted her arrangements, for she was thoroughly familiar with the strengths and abilities of these officers in the Conqueror Army. The tasks she arranged were meticulous and comprehensive; they just needed to follow the plan.
"Lord, you’re back. What just happened?"
"Where is Arms? Lord, did you finish him off completely?"
"Was that Arms’ trap just now? Pulled the Lord into the Shadow Plane?"
"We almost died of fright when we realized that the Lord and the city hall had both vanished."
As Gaven materialized out of thin air, everyone’s gaze immediately turned to him, filled with barely concealed concern and curiosity.
Compared to the Holy Warriors and Followers of Tempus, who were incredibly tense, the high-ranking members of the Conqueror Army weren’t too surprised to hear that Gaven had vanished despite their heavy guard. This was something they had been planning all along—to face Gaven against the Necromancer, setting the stage for a king versus king confrontation.
They were well aware of Gaven’s strength and the cards he held. What they hadn’t anticipated was how bizarrely the situation would unfold—not only did Gaven vanish into thin air, but the city hall disappeared along with him.
Before this, they had speculated that both had been pulled into the Shadow Plane or some interlayer. Such occurrences were not uncommon.
Involuntarily, everyone’s eyes drifted past Gaven to the city hall that had reappeared with him.
The enveloping mist had completely dissipated, revealing its stone truth. The building, predominantly a shade of bluish-gray, still exuded an eerie chill, like a giant dormant beast waiting to swallow its enemies.
Darnell, Veranika, and Nola, those who had been to the Three Rivers Region and seen Weizemay Manor, exchanged glances, sensing an all-too-familiar aura from it. This was clearly a replica of Weizemay Manor—not in structure but in the aura it emitted.
Could it be that the Lord had transformed this undead lair into a new Weizemay Manor?
Their guess, while not entirely accurate, was not far off, and in some ways, it was even more unique than they had imagined.
Gaven explained breezily, "Just now, it wasn’t entirely the enemy’s trap, but a collision of the Shadow Power I was channeling with the enemy’s force, resulting in a mutual consumption battle that engulfed both friend and foe. Fortunately, I have upheld my duty; the chief evil, Arms, has been slain, having been unmasked as an Akechazha Evil Beast Spirit."
To corroborate his words, Gaven tossed Arms’ mutilated corpse before them.
As for boasting about slaying the demonic mark and Soul Consciousness of the Evil Beast Spirit, he didn’t go into too much detail. Some things were better left quietly profitable and didn’t need to be common knowledge.
Even the mid- and high-ranking members of the Conqueror Army only knew that Gaven had controlled a Legendary Six-armed Snake Demon, unaware that it had two forms or that Gaven had the power to sever demonic marks and destroy the Strength to Destroy Evil souls.
"Lord, you remain as strong as ever, eliminating an Evil Beast Spirit with at least Quasi-Legendary strength with ease."
"Normal. This Necromancer, facing the Lord and his True Shadow Brigade, would hardly be able to use even one-tenth of his true Strength, while the Lord holds his own unique advantages."
"With this, we claim a complete victory in battle, and the evil of Efanso has been thoroughly eradicated."
A wave of genuine admiration followed. Gaven made it sound effortless, but they couldn’t understand it in quite the same way. After all, the foe was a Quasi-Legendary Necromancer known for his treachery and cunning, possessing great Strength and proficiency in deception. Merely having Strength was not enough to defeat him; it also required great wisdom.
Unconcerned with how others might speculate, Gaven turned to Katherine and asked, "Ms., how are things on your end?"
Despite what he had confidently told Arms earlier, as if he had witnessed Katherine’s Golia Brigade coming out of danger himself, that had merely been a ploy to demoralize the enemy. Until he saw the final outcome, his heart was in suspense.
Before Katherine could extol her tale, Kellysha eagerly responded from the side, "We owe it to Ms. Katherine’s foresight. Upon realizing that Lord had dispelled the city’s Mist Barrier, she quickly led us to safety through an underground teleportation, without a single casualty. Otherwise, our entire Corps would have been buried alive by those cunning Undead."
Just as Gaven had guessed, Katherine indeed had used the Chosen Ability for tactical deployment to lead them out from underground.
Their course, following the unfolding situation, had shifted from the main attack to serving as bait. The primary aim was to convince Arms that they had fallen into his trap. From the outset, it was not about inflicting great harm on the enemy; the greatest victory lay in sowing confusion and safely withdrawing.
