Chapter 871: Chapter 557: Treant Brigade Lays Siege

"Devil’s mark?" The Six-armed Snake Demon crossed her arms and looked down at Grace, hissing, "I see. A poor little creature caught in the web woven by a devil’s conspiracy. How much of your current thoughts are truly your own? And how much are the whispers of that devil in your ear? Meeting Lord Gaven is your good fortune, as his power is one of the rare few able to sever such marks. Without cutting it off, as long as that devil lives, you’ll have no means to escape this entanglement; it will draw you into hell, to join his collection of trinkets."

Ophelia’s words were undoubtedly demonic murmurs.

She was neither helping Gaven out of kindness nor assisting Grace. She simply wanted to savor the complex expression of a toy played to its breaking point, to pull her into her own ranks; an additional little plaything by her side was not a bad choice.

"Do I truly bear the devil’s mark?" Grace might have doubted Gaven’s words, but she could not afford to disbelieve those of a legendary Six-armed Snake Demon.

It wasn’t that the demon was more trustworthy than Gaven, but rather the demon was powerful enough to have no need for deception or trickery.

Grace reassessed Gaven’s strength in her mind. The spell he had used was no ordinary summoning, but an instantaneous summoning of such a powerful demon. There was only one possibility for achieving this: Gaven held the True Name of the Demon. To do so was a thousand times more difficult than merely summoning a legendary demon.

Most importantly, this type of summoning disregarded most Ban Teleportation laws, including Mystlock Locks, because the summoning didn’t originate from teleportation. It was the power of the True Name of Demons that allowed the bearer to instantaneously reshape the demon using its True Name.

No wonder Gaven dared to walk into what might be a trap, single-handedly; he had a sufficient trump card up his sleeve. Judging from his initial tone, he had come prepared to turn the tables and upend those who had laid the trap for him.

"Heh..." The Six-armed Snake Demon merely scoffed coldly, appearing utterly indifferent to belief or disbelief.

The more dismissive she was, the more Grace was convinced, and she nodded without hesitation, "Very well, let us proceed with the method you propose, Lord. As long as you can protect my soul, I am willing to pledge my allegiance. What else do you require of me, Lord?"

"To sever the devil’s mark, I must be in a special state, one which I only enter when slaying Arms. I plan to sever his devil’s mark too. So, you must ensure that when you die, I am in that special state, and you can only die by my hand. If Arms kills you beforehand and drags your soul to hell, there will be nothing I can do," Gaven stated truthfully.

As for whether Grace would play the role of a double agent, turning right around to sell the information back to Arms, Gaven no longer cared. With the arrival of reinforcements, his trump cards were more than just these. Scaring Arms away would not be a bad shortcut to victory.

"Fine, give me one day. I will make the necessary arrangements, and then you can launch a full-scale assault. I will coordinate with the progress of your attacks. The detailed Efanso Map lies a meter beneath this stone. You have one day—if you do not attack within a day, I will find my way to safety," Grace declared, her thoughts meticulously woven, not putting her faith entirely in others.

As soon as she finished speaking, her projection began to flicker and, after a few moments, it disappeared completely. It was unclear whether the duration ended or if she had canceled the spell from the other side.

Gaven removed the stone where she had cast the Projection Technique and began to attune his spirit with the surrounding land, his consciousness immediately extending outwards, delving into the earth and stone beneath his feet. Although not as clear as sight, he could faintly perceive the outline of objects around him, sensing a rectangular object about a meter below.

At a single thought, the soil around him came alive, billowing to each side, and within seconds, a wooden chest was raised from the earth.

A Third-Level Spell, the Stone Shaping Spell.

Combined with the enhanced control over Magic Elements granted by his Transcendant Body, it could be wielded with utmost flexibility.

Upon opening the chest, inside was a map rolled up into a scroll, entirely hand-drawn. The script, elegant and soft, was undoubtedly crafted by Grace’s hand; not only it detailed the Efanso’s terrain above and below ground, it even clearly marked the main distribution of the military forces.

A trace of joy surfaced on Gaven’s face—with this map, they could navigate straight to their target, making the risky endeavor worth the danger.

"Don’t rejoice too soon," the Six-armed Snake Demon added ominously from the side, "You’re dealing with a devil, a master of countless cunning plans. How can you be certain that Grace’s betrayal isn’t the result of his manipulation, a deliberate ploy to feed you false intelligence and lure you into an even larger trap?"

"I am aware," Gaven said as he carefully stowed the Efanso Map away, smiling, "Thank you for your reminder, milady. We shall indeed explore that possibility."

"I’m not worried about you; I fear that when you summon me next time, it will be to an inescapable death, dragging me down with you," stated the Six-armed Snake Demon with her usual haughtiness.
