Chapter 851: Chapter 550: Evil Beast Spirit_2
He had barely escaped one calamity when another one awaited him. A giant Serpent Hilt Curved Sword, taller than himself, crisscrossed and slashed at him in an inverted cross pattern, almost touching him.Even more fatally, the shadow under his feet seemed to come alive, firmly gripping his legs and preventing him from evading and escaping. This time he had kicked an iron plate; his opponent possessed the ability to manipulate shadows.
Shrinking Spell.
The attacker activated the spell built into his magic ring, directly reducing his body size by half, resembling a small Demi-Human just over seventy centimeters tall. Then, curling up, Gaven’s two Serpent Hilt Curved Swords merely slashed over his head—too late for any change of tactics.
Having a larger body type has its advantages, as does being smaller.
When there is a significant disparity in size between opponents, hitting the smaller one becomes much more difficult.
Gaven finally got a clear look at the one ambushing him and coldly spat out a name, "Evil Beast Spirit Nadaroon, since you are here, it means your master isn’t far away. If I’m not wrong, Efanso’s Necromancer Arms is just a disguise used by your master, the Evil Beast Spirit Akechazha. No wonder he’s so inhumane, not treating humans as humans because you’re not human to begin with."
Evil Beast Spirit is a term for a medium-sized otherworldly creature, with Nadaroon and Akechazha being names of sub-branches within this species.
These creatures closely resemble Were-Tigers suffering from Lycanthropy—like a Ferocious Tiger that has taken on a humanoid form. The main difference lies in their hands, which are like those of humans but covered in fur with claws. However, Evil Beast Spirits have their palms on the backs of their hands which causes them to grip things outwardly—an awkward sight for those unaccustomed.
But few people have ever witnessed such a sight, and most who have are likely dead.
All Evil Beast Spirits possess the ability to change shapes, and they can freely transform into the likeness of humanoid creatures. To outsiders, the Evil Beast Spirit appeared to be a small, sturdy Human Pirate.
But under Gaven’s True Sight, he resembled a cunning black tiger, boasting luxurious black fur and a tiger’s head, his eyes gleaming with malicious intent. Evil Beast Spirits are known as walking evils among men, also known as Rakshasa, the evil spirit souls trapped in the mortal realm.
There are many theories about their origin, the most credible being that the powerful devils of The Nine Hells created a dark ritual. They extracted a portion of their evil essence and released it to the Material Plane to escape Hell’s confinement. When this evil essence merged with the Material Plane, a new type of demon was born—the Rakshasa.
The devil’s scheme could be said to be both a success and a failure.
These Rakshasa did escape Hell, as they desired, and now live unrestrained on the Material Plane as native otherworldly creatures.
However, they developed their own willful souls, breaking free from their creator’s control. They haven’t been able to retrieve this part of their evil essence unless they meet destruction on the Material Plane. This evil essence would temporarily return to The Nine Hells, but not long after, their bodies in the Material Plane would reform, and the cycle would restart.
"Since you know of us, you should know our methods," the Evil Beast Spirit menacingly threatened, "If you provoke us, your descendants and all connected to you will face our endless reprisal and assassination until your lineage is annihilated from this world."
Like other Demon Devils, when Rakshasa are reborn, they retain all memories and knowledge from their past lives, including hatred. They will go to great lengths to find those who killed them in past lives. If they discover that their enemy has died, they often transfer their hatred to the enemy’s family, friends, or descendants, serving as a warning not to provoke them.
"An Evil Beast Spirit? A Devil? Then you’re even more deserving of death." Before Gaven could take his next action, the Fine Gold Blossom Hammer from the Half-Blue Dragon warrior came smashing down again.
The Evil Beast Spirit, still stuck in place, had managed to dodge Gaven’s cross slash at the limit but couldn’t avoid the crushing blow of the Fine Gold Blossom Hammer.
The situation resembled a hammer smashing a mouse.
Except, this ’mouse’s resilience exceeded expectations. Instead of a scene where a hammer crushes a watermelon into pieces, the man and hammer together smashed onto the deck, creating a huge hole with terrifying force.
The Evil Beast Spirit spit out a mouthful of blood, attempting to squeeze underneath the deck.
"Come out," Gaven was not about to let him go so easily. Given the connection he deduced between him and Efanso’s Necromancer and knowing the prowess of such a Transcendent Assassin in shadow jumping, Gaven couldn’t possibly let him escape; he himself might block the assassination, but other soldiers might not. If allowed to escape, it would be a constant threat, with a slight mishap potentially resulting in heavy casualties.
Unable to draw his sword again in time, Gaven directly initiated another Energy Blast, but this time it wasn’t cold energy; he switched to lightning energy.
