Chapter 783: Chapter 529 Comprehensive Cooperation_2

A city without a Mist Barrier is no good city.

But to envelop Dwarf Statue City and Blood Gorge City with a barrier wasn’t something that could be done with a mere Seventh or Eighth Ring Mist Barrier—it required, at the very least, the Ninth Ring.

Of those Gaven knew, the only one qualified to cast this spell was the Legendary Arcanist, Philancy.

Unfortunately, she was trapped in one place and had absolutely no way to come over, let alone the abundant time required to cast such a time-consuming ritual spell.

"This is precisely the third cooperation I wished to discuss," Raymond said with a smile, "I have recently perfected the method for casting the Nine Rings Mist Barrier. If you trust me, you just need to prepare the corresponding casting materials, and I can construct the mist barriers for these two cities for free."

Compared to the deals they had just discussed, casting two Ninth Ring spells was merely a drop in the bucket for Raymond, who freely offered them to Gaven as a favor.

After all, these two cities were starting to involve his own interests; he naturally did not wish for anything untoward to happen.

"That’s wonderful," Gaven said with a smile on his face, "With the City Lord casting it, I couldn’t be more assured. What casting materials do I need to prepare?"

"Mainly three kinds of primary materials: silver, Phase Spider webs, and amber. There are two versions,

One is temporary, requiring only one ton of silver, one Phase Spider web, and a fist-sized piece of amber. The resulting Mist Barrier will last for one year.

The other is permanent, but it requires nine times the materials needed for the temporary one," Raymond directly listed the materials required for the casting.

"Silver is easy to handle, I’ve just recently acquired a batch of rough silver ingots that only need further refining, and amber is also easy to come by, it’s not often scarce on the market, with fist-sized pieces going for ten thousand Gold Coins each, that should be manageable.

The troublesome part is the Phase Spider web; in the City of Brilliance, the entire market has just about three webs, and the prices of the other two are abnormal.

No wonder the price of Phase Spider silk has always been extraordinarily high. It turns out it’s not just used for making Portable Dimensional Holes but also one of the materials for the Mist Barrier, and the required amount is so significant.

To procure one or two webs is manageable, but needing over a dozen at once, that’s somewhat troubling," Gaven itemized his resources at hand and found the Phase Spider web to be the most challenging to obtain.

Raymond nodded in agreement, "Phase Spider web has always been in short supply, firstly due to the high demand, and secondly, because those spiders that shuttle between realms are beyond the capabilities of ordinary mercenaries to deal with, let alone collect their webs.

How about you collect enough for a temporary setup first, to protect this place with a temporary Mist Barrier. Apart from the duration, there’s not much difference in capability between the temporary and permanent ones.

Once you’ve gathered enough resources for a permanent one, then it’s not too late to build it. Although this will entail some waste, it at least buys you some breathing room."

"It seems that’s the only way to go," Gaven could only accept this staggered payment approach reluctantly.

The shortfall of eighteen Phase Spider webs was simply too large, and with those items being so prized yet scarce, he had offers to purchase them up in several major cities such as Waterdeep City, Baldur’s Gate, and the West Gate, but to date had only acquired three strands.

It seemed necessary to carefully select candidates and form several Phase Spider Hunter Squads, specifically tasked with collecting Phase Spider webs.

As his own ventures continue to expand, the quantity of Phase Spider webs needed was bound to increase.

"The Mist Barrier is not static but can support many special effects; every three Rings can carry one effect. Which effects you require, Lord Baron, is up to you to decide," Raymond explained the details of the Mist Barrier to Gaven.

"What options are available for choice?" Gaven asked humbly, his knowledge of Mist Barriers was partial but not comprehensive; naturally, he took the opportunity to learn more.

"Ban Teleportation, No-Fly, Ban Burrowing, Ban Invisibility, and Create Monster Guards—these are the five types I have mastered," Raymond replied.

He didn’t elaborate, but his explanation was clear enough, and Gaven understood. After some consideration, he said, "The situations in the two cities are different. Here in Dwarf Statue City, the Mist Barrier needs to be three-dimensional to cover the entire Dwarf Statue. With a large influx of Dragonized Gnolls and anti-aircraft firepower anticipated, we don’t need a No-Fly. The main concern would instead be digging through the mountainside or burrowing from underground into Dwarf Statue City. So here we’ll need Ban Teleportation, Ban Burrowing, and Ban Invisibility.

Over in Blood Gorge City, we’ll need Ban Teleportation, No-Fly, and Ban Invisibility."

While there were also concerns about burrowing creatures in Blood Gorge City, comparatively, the number of flying creatures posed a greater threat—it made sense to prioritize the larger issue.

As for the option to Create Monster Guards, Gaven outright ignored it.

Both cities would eventually have large populations and their own guards, so it wasn’t necessary to waste precious capabilities on this feature.

"Besides this, I’ll also need to conduct an on-site survey to prevent accidents during the casting of the spell," Raymond put forward a new request.

"No problem," Gaven agreed readily, "I’ll accompany you."

If he would be casting the Mist Barrier in the future, this level of trust had to be given.

There was an added benefit to having Raymond cast the Mist Barrier: as a City Lord, one could leave but the ’temple’ couldn’t be moved, especially when both parties were about to be entangled in substantial mutual interests.
