Chapter 726: Chapter 510 Blood Gorge_2
The Noble Giant Troll walked in the middle of the group, easily recognizable by their immense size, resembling a house in height, thick and robust, draped in enormous, crudely-made but heavy, solid armor pieces. In particular, their clubs made from entire trunks of ironwood trees, forked and studded with various sharp iron spikes, had both pointedness and bluntness as their characteristics. The most striking feature was the black gem embedded in their foreheads, which, under the sunlight, shimmered with a mysterious luster, seemingly drawing in the sunlight itself. This was the famous Troll Gem from the Troll Mountains, also known as the Regeneration Gem.
These were the Noble Giant Trolls native to the Wailing Dwarf Kingdom, one of the rulers among these monsters, wielding absolute power over life and death.
Surrounding them were four or five fellow Noble Giant Trolls of variable heights, possibly not shorter than the head troll, but visibly thinner, at least by a third or even half, making them seem somewhat lanky and hunched-shouldered. As they passed by the head troll, their eyes betrayed an undeniable greed, both for the Troll Gems and for the flesh on their own bodies.
In essence, trolls were a race that considered obesity a beauty standard for its many benefits: a corpulent body indicated a substantial reserve of regenerative energy and a naturally thick armor. A slash at an ordinary troll compared to a double-sized troll yielded different outcomes; when combined with their horrifying regenerative ability, especially when enhanced several times over by the Regeneration Gems, their combat power became truly fearsome.
These Noble Giant Trolls had recently pledged their allegiance; their birthright ensured their high positions within the Wailing Dwarf Kingdom from the start, and barring any serious missteps, integrating into this new hierarchy and becoming one of the rulers was just a matter of time.
Circling these non-core Noble Giant Trolls were more than twenty common trolls, perhaps not as tall but impressively stout, even exceeding the non-core nobles. Undoubtedly, these were common trolls born of Wailing Dwarf lineage, equivalent to the personal guard, with power and influence second only to the first two groups.
The ranks furthest out, consisting of fifty to sixty trolls, were the ones often seen and typically thought of as trolls: an average height of two meters seventy to eighty, both tall and lean but not lacking in muscle. Their arms were disproportionately long, shoulders hunched, nearly dragging on the ground, their nails black and lengthy, curved like daggers, their sharpness undoubted. Their skin was dark green, with black fleshly growths, hair disheveled, radiating a frightful stench. Their eyes always glowed with an insatiable craving, regarding the living beings around them as if they were delicious food.
These trolls’ mouths were never idle; any servant monsters that got too close were scooped up by their astonishingly long Troll Claw and chopped into pieces. The trolls around them would promptly crowd in, skewering the severed parts with their Troll Claws to feast. Disputes sparking off at a moment’s disagreement were not uncommon, some even gnawing at severed troll limbs.
The Noble Giant Trolls ignored such behavior, as without resorting to flames or strong acid, these scuffles among trolls couldn’t lead to any deaths; on the contrary, it helped maintain their vigor and combat readiness, serving as a beneficial activity.
As for the lives of those servant monsters, they never cared. These were merely tools for labor, along with reserve rations—there would always be plenty as long as they remained strong enough.
Thus, no other servant monsters could be seen around these Troll Warbands; all kept their distance.
And there were fifteen such Troll Warbands, all surrounding an even more immense Troll Warband at the center.
This particular Troll Warband was distinguished by a unique characteristic—two heads.
Whether they were Noble Giant Trolls or common trolls, all had two heads, similar to the central figure King Kodi Koli. There were surprisingly many such trials, numbering in the hundreds.
Besides regenerating, trolls had another trait known as mutant variations, also a product of regeneration. When a troll’s head was cut off, there was a chance that while a new head would grow in its place, an additional head might sprout as well. The same occasionally happened with limbs, so seeing Two-Headed Trolls or trolls with three or four arms wasn’t something to be astonished by.
Nonetheless, such mutations were usually rare. Their prevalence suggested either hereditary traits or deliberate creation.
Since King Kodi Koli held great power within the Wailing Dwarf community, the latter seemed more likely. Moreover, the process wasn’t difficult. Simply beheading those trolls and waiting to see whether one or two heads grew back was all it took, and the experiment could be repeated. Some, eager to rise in rank, would even volunteer for this.
The Monster Army of the Wailing Dwarf Kingdom had just marched out.
The migrating army’s three major brigades immediately reacted, each splitting into three parts.
The Blood Claw Wolf Cavalry Brigade did not retreat but instead charged towards the Monster Army. They didn’t engage in battle but instead circled the Monster Army like a pack of wolves.
