Chapter 720: Chapter 508: Sometimes Legends Are Not Just Legends_2

The Hobgoblin Giant was also an expert in this area, but he admitted to himself that when it came to adapting, he was absolutely not as quick as the man before him.

Today, he had kicked an iron plate; the opponent was clearly a master disguised as a pig to eat a tiger. Based on the combat skills he had shown, he would believe it if someone said he was a Legendary Warrior.

Leo was not the type to easily bow his head in submission, especially with his favored large double-handed sword in hand, a fierce battle fire began to burn in his eyes.

In the slaughter of the battlefield, aside from physical quality and skills, combat experience and the will to fight play an irreplaceable role.

In this regard, the Hobgoblin Giant was absolutely confident; ever since he could remember, he had used his hands and swords in the Shura Field to acquire everything he needed—survival, power, and honor.

He could not treat this as a mere contest; it was a fight to the death, sparing no efforts.

Putting away all his contempt, the Hobgoblin Giant used all the skills he had learned in his life and thrust out with his sword.

But what Leo didn’t know was that what he prided himself on held no advantage before Gaven; he only had the chance to thrust once before he found himself in the same predicament as the last round—overwhelmed in the fight.

Even when he adopted the desperate strategy of trading injury for injury, it was just a tactic to slow down his defeat, as he never even managed to touch a hair on Gaven from start to finish.

This only proved one thing, that the gap in strength between them was too large, and no strategy could bridge it.

The Hobgoblin Giant was forthright in this realization, and as soon as he understood this point, he kneeled on the ground with his large double-handed sword and said loudly, "I was blind and careless, Lord. Please punish me as you see fit."

Gaven did not directly respond to Leo but turned his gaze to another Hobgoblin Giant and said, "Would you care to try your luck as well?"

Thomas, who clearly had higher emotional intelligence than Leo, immediately jumped up from the ground and knelt on one knee, offering his loyalty, "I am willing to follow the Lord and Blood Claw General unto death."

After returning the large double-handed sword to Kellysha and deactivating all his Special Abilities, Gaven sat back in his original spot before speaking in a flat tone, "Let this be the only time for such an incident. If it happens again, military law will apply. Now get up and return to your posts."

It was appropriate to show a modicum of personal military force, but he could not spend his time knocking down every mid to lower-level commander among the Goblins, especially as the population was expanding rapidly. The rest must be managed through a mix of benevolence and authority.

"Thank you for your mercy, Lord," said not only the two Hobgoblin Giants but also Blood Claw, who was their commander. Strictly speaking, he bore half the responsibility for this negligence.

"Let’s continue with the previous issue. What percentage of Giantization is there in the Giant Plains? Is it limited to certain races, or does it occur in all? Do you know the reason for it?" Gaven resumed the earlier subject as if the recent event was trivial and disregarded what others were thinking.

"To report to the Lord, the phenomenon is widespread; all races experience this condition. Only Goblins are somewhat special, for after they undergo Giantization, they become Hobgoblins, which is why there are a startling number of Hobgoblins here," Thomas replied, this Hobgoblin Giant being more astute than Leo, "As for the exact proportion, it has never been formally calculated. The differences between the various races and tribes are vast; in some tribes, among a hundred ordinary Hobgoblins, there are only three to five Giants, in others there are over a dozen, and there are even tribes composed solely of Hobgoblin Giants that only accept their kind."

However, such tribes are rare because the offspring of Hobgoblin Giants don’t necessarily inherit the Giant trait and have an equal chance of being born as ordinary Hobgoblins.

As for Giantization, it’s not something that is manifest from birth but rather something that becomes apparent over the course of their growth.

Once ordinary Hobgoblins reach a certain developmental stage, they stop growing, whereas the Hobgoblin Giants continue growing until they reach a Giant’s stature..."

"Are you suggesting that these Giantized members mature later than the ordinary ones? Is this the case for all races?" Gaven cut to the core of the issue.

"Yes," Thomas responded affirmatively, "Compared to ordinary members, our maturity is delayed by at least five to six years, and this is the case for all races."

"Is there any way to distinguish them from the ordinary members before they display signs of Giantization?" This condition had strayed from being a matter of heredity and seemed more like a genetic mutation, the kind that doesn’t get passed down. If this were the case, then the cause wouldn’t be located in the local monster races but in the land itself.

"So far, no race or tribe has been reported to have the ability to do so; we can only wait for those individuals to show their own signs," Thomas answered.

"So, it’s safe to say that a portion of the population dies before showing any signs of Giantization."

"Yes."

"The reason, hmm? Do the locals have any research or legends about this?"

"There is no research, but there truly is a legend."

"Do tell."

"According to legend, this land was once the border between two Giant Empires, which waged war against each other for tens of thousands of years. The number of Giants that died in battle here is uncountable; their blood soaked every inch of this land, and countless Giant souls still wander here."
