By the time Gaven reached the center of the arena, he had transformed into a 3.7-meter giant clad in Armor; part of the Magic Armor possessed the ability to adjust its size according to the wearer’s form. The Combat Armor had such a capacity, well within the range of the Enlarge and Shrinking Spell.
He crackled his joints and taunted Leo by beckoning with his fingers, "Fists and feet or blades and swords? Choose as you will!"
"Six-Attribute Transcendent!"
"Transcendent Body!"
An incredible gasp of surprise arose from the crowd.
In that moment, Gaven was wreathed in a unique Magic Power, especially from the peculiar singing stone atop his head, which sang words nobody understood, yet somehow made their blood surge.
No, this was not an illusion but a kind of Magic Force, adding two points to both Strength and Constitution.
The Hobgoblin Giant’s expression became grave; he leapt up, saying, "I underestimated you, but combat isn’t solely a matter of piling up Attributes. I’ll take you on with fists and feet, so you learn what battle is about. Let me give you a three-punch head start..."
Before Leo could finish his sentence, Gaven darted forward, unleashing a combination of punches from Chinese boxing.
With a Transcendent Body, the same moves were a different concept altogether.
Now he had both speed and strength, as well as sufficient skill.
The Hobgoblin Giant dodged the first and second punches, but couldn’t evade the third, fourth, fifth...
His strength was superior to Gaven’s, but his agility was not in the same class.
A moment too late, and every subsequent move falls behind.
All that echoed in the spectators’ ears were the sounds of fists thudding against flesh, and what they saw were punches so rapid they were almost imperceptible.
His way of throwing punches, albeit with only so many types, became unpredictable when combined, feints mixed with solid blows, confounding all who watched.
You’d think his punch, soft and feeble, was a feigned, shadow punch, but as it approached, within a tiny space, it would suddenly burst forth with terrifying striking force.
When you prepared to dodge a heavy, forceful punch, you would abruptly realize that another fist was already waiting right there for you to walk into.
At first, Leo managed some defense, at least able to raise his arms to block most attacks.
But when Gaven added elbows to the mix, the Hobgoblin Giant soon fell into disarray, and once Gaven incorporated kicks and knees into his attacks, Leo lasted only three moves before a knee to the small of his back followed by a kidney shot brought him to his knees. It took him three seconds to catch his breath.
The Hobgoblin Giant demonstrated an extraordinary Constitution and recovery, which would have killed or incapacitated an ordinary person with a single knee strike.
Those present, all knowledgeable, knew the battle was over.
Given Gaven’s previously displayed attack capability, those three seconds Leo lay controlled on the ground provided ample time for a ruthless finishing move, a lethal strike at a vital point.
"Was the lord really activating a pure Arcane Adept and not an Arcane Knight?" Anna’s question echoed the thoughts of everyone present.
Many there knew Gaven to be formidable, especially his attacks which were incomparably sharp. No one present could withstand his full-on assault.
But all of this was supposedly based on his unique Death Roar and Revenge Skills.
Yet he had used neither his Death Roar nor his Revenge Skills just now.
For from beginning to end, the Hobgoblin Giant was completely overpowered by Gaven, unable to mount any effective counterattacks, and thus had no chance to trigger the power of Revenge.
The gap between the two was as large as that between a professionally trained fighter and a street brawler.
Gaven, clad in his Combat Armor, said in a muffled tone, "Attributes aren’t everything, but your skills are also full of flaws. Even your basic defense fails to focus on the essentials; legs must be bent, waist arched, and arms must protect the head and neck—key points for both defense and counterattack."
This posturing definitely earned a score of ten.
But undeniably, it felt exhilarating.
Catching the bug of showmanship, Gaven asked, "What weapon are you proficient with?"
"Two-handed sword," the Hobgoblin Giant replied involuntarily, much of his earlier arrogance subdued, replaced with a hint of awe.
Being at the heart of the encounter, he alone could truly understand the magnitude of the gap between them.
Apart from a slight edge in strength, he was utterly outmatched in speed, constitution, and skill.
"Give him his sword," Gaven said, turning to Kellysha, "Lady, may I borrow your sword."
Once both were armed, Gaven, while swinging the weapon and finding its balance point, said, "You are not adept at fistfighting, so I’ll challenge you with the weapon you favor. This time, you come at me first."
As Leo observed the casual way his opponent handled the large two-handed sword, alarm bells rang in his head. Gaven had only swung the sword thrice, yet each motion conveyed a different feeling.
The first stroke was unsteady, indicating he was handling this sword for the first time.
The second found the balance, becoming nimble.
The third stroke, as if the arm was directing the sword, suggested the blade to be his exclusive weapon.
Just that insight was enough to prove that Gaven was a master in wielding weapons, whether it was this or any other weapon.
