Chapter 635: Chapter 480: Unable to Enter the Door_1

"The equipment and supplies handover will be negotiated between you; I won’t get involved," Gaven said, leaving the rest to Zalanda and Blood Claw.

"Alright," the two responded in unison.

Having sent the two off, one after the other from Mesnoel, Gaven didn’t directly return. Instead, he called out loudly, "Come down!"

This voice, carrying a special soul tremor, traveled very far and could only be heard by a very few beings.

Hou!

Accompanied by a dragon’s roar, a crimson figure descended from the sky.

It was a Red Dragon, massive as a four-wheeled carriage.

The legendarily proud, greedy, and exceedingly cruel Red Dragon appeared before Gaven like a tail-wagging, begging little dog. With a sycophantic smile on its dragon face, it said, "Roderick has seen Lord."

"You have done well. This is your reward for this task. From now on, you needn’t follow the Blood Claw Army anymore; you have a new task ahead," Gaven said as he tossed a chest of gold coins to the young Red Dragon.

The one before him was an insurance policy Gaven had arranged for the Blood Claw Army.

If Blood Claw honored the arrangement, it would not be activated.

Should they seek fortune elsewhere and take root in other lands, Gaven could use the soul bond between the Red Dragon and the Dragon Oak Mother Tree to find their location.

This insurance could now be dismantled.

"Thank you for the reward, my Lord. I am at your command," the young Red Dragon said, its face even more obsequious as it took the chest of gold coins, clutching it tightly, unwilling to let go.

He knew that the gold coin chests Gaven provided were standard ten thousand coin chests—not one coin more, not one less, all of full weight.

Even as a free creature, ten thousand gold coins was not a small sum, let alone for a slave—this was a genuine, generous reward.

Especially when sensing the powerful Giant Dragon essence lingering on these coins, he couldn’t help but be even more cautious.

It seemed the legends were true; the master before him had, not long ago, slain a Red Dragon that was two age stages his senior. This was part of that dragon’s hoard.

Gaven was unconcerned with the young Red Dragon’s caution, leading him straight to Anfield Village instead.

He had brought him here for a reason: to deal with the Gnolls in the wastelands surrounding the hills.

A Giant Dragon, even an immature one, was the most convenient method of subjugating Gnolls. If you added a model Gnoll into the mix, the process would be even more effective.

And this exemplary Gnoll was none other than Gos.

Having received his brand-new task from Gaven, Gos, who had been feeling quite dreary about his dog life, suddenly became spirited, feeling he had found his purpose.

His inherent talents were indeed lacking, his mind not the sharpest. Lord’s development was proceeding too quickly, and he was struggling to keep up.

But his loyalty was unquestionable, his enthusiasm boundless. He could help persuade those uncivilized Gnolls who had yet to bask in the holy radiance of their Lord to join the great undertaking of developing Dragon Oak Territory and embrace the arms of their leader.

In this, he was well-practiced and skillful.

Employing his innate abilities and keen nose, Gos quickly located the first den of Gnolls in the Stone Bridge Hills.

With a fawning face, Gos said to the young Red Dragon, "Lord Roderick, please roar at the cave entrance and then unleash a Dragon Breath onto the clearing, preferably striking near the entrance but not sweeping into the cave..."

"Quit babbling!" The young Red Dragon roared impatiently as it dived down, directing a Flame Dragon’s Breath toward the Gnoll den, whose inhabitants refused to come out and kneel in welcome.

Although he held Gos in low regard, after all, he was the assistant assigned by that man, and his actions would reach the man’s ears through this shameless bootlicker.

Therefore, he dared not overstep. The Flame Dragon’s Breath grazed the den’s entrance.

Even so, it caused an uproar of barking within.

Only then did Gos let go, landing with flair, and strutting close to the cave, he announced loudly, "In my left hand, friendship and food; in my right hand, sword and magic. Which will you choose..."

Before Gos could finish, an uproar of barks from the cave answered, "We choose the left hand, woof."

Next, no more than twenty skinny, short Gnolls tumbled out in a rush.

This sight left Gos, who had been harboring some dissatisfaction, murmuring in surprise, "What have you reduced yourselves to? When was the last time you had a full meal?"

"A full meal?" The leading Gnoll looked at Gos with shock and asked, "My lord, do you know what feeling full is like?"

This bewildering counterquestion left Gos’s mind blank, at a loss for words.

He had seen Gnolls living miserably, but never to such a pitiful extent.

Gos couldn’t help but speak with the tone of someone who’d been there, "There’s plenty to eat in the wild; just put in a bit of effort. Surely you won’t starve in the middle of summer, right?"

"Many people by day, many monsters by night, we dare not venture far," the Gnoll leader responded with a whine.

"Then gather your things and follow me. I promise you’ll know what being full feels like in no time," Gos said enticingly.

Noticing a hint of hesitation on the Gnolls’ faces, Gos spoke disdainfully, "You’re all this miserable; what could we possibly want from you? Even if we were to eat you, there’s barely any meat on your bones. Don’t worry. The mighty figure outside is just a puppet. We serve a greater, more benevolent Lord. He not only can fill your stomachs but also grant you stronger power, the strength of dragons."
