Chapter 611: Chapter 472 Playing a Ghost Movie for Ghost_1
The deeply reserved Mother Gao Ser, much like Krewen, rarely performed her arts, and when she did, it was for the wealthy nobles of the City of Brilliance who had paid a hefty price. This kind of public performance was a first for Anfield Village.
Many villagers didn’t even know she could dance, let alone that she was so extraordinarily skilled.
The only thing that marred the performance was the barely perceptible sobbing and wailing that drifted from the ruins of the inn behind Joy Hall.
The villagers of Anfield were unfazed by such odd occurrences, effectively ignoring them, with no one bothering to investigate the cause.
But that night, one person broke this convention, and that person was none other than Gaven.
For him, slipping away from the banquet was no difficult feat.
Officially, he was the guest of honor, but once the introductions to important people had been mostly completed, there was little left for him to do.
Especially after Mother Gao Ser began to dance with the companion girls, no one paid him any mind.
He ventured alone into the haunted inn ruins at night.
It wasn’t that he was overconfident in his abilities, believing he had enough strength to face any eventuality, but because he knew the true story behind The Weeping Witch.
The Weeping Witch, named Philancy, was not an actual undead spirit but someone playing tricks.
Gaven had verified this repeatedly over the past few days.
Desolate as the inn ruins were, there wasn’t a trace of negative energy residue, let alone the presence of death.
Having Undead Divinity at his disposal, Gaven had an acute perception of such matters.
Undead Spirits rely on negative energy to exist. Without any lingering negative energy, how could there be any spirits?
The Weeping Witch, Philancy, was not a witch but a powerful mage who had been cursed and bound by powerful magic to another plane.
She could only project her strength back to Felen during special times through the link between her and her spellbook.
It was said that the spellbook she possessed originated from the Nesserel Empire, from the greatest of the Legendary Arcanists, Ioleum.
Ioleum was the arcanist who invented the psionic core, raised the first Floating City, and developed the Ioleum Longevity Technique.
He also uncovered the spiritual energy knowledge of the Zamudas Empire and melded it with arcane magic, creating the entirely new advanced profession of Arcane Adept.
How much of the legend was truth or fiction was something Gaven could not ascertain, as in his previous life, he had never obtained this spellbook, nor had he directly encountered The Weeping Witch.
What he could be certain of was that the spellbook contained the advanced knowledge he needed.
This was, comparatively, the easiest for him to access.
If things didn’t work out here, or if the information was incorrect, he had a backup plan—to directly seek out Ms. Tabola, Ioleum’s last disciple, who was at the Bagweit Inn not too far from here.
She was a Legendary Arcanist with a lifespan even longer than that of the average Giant Dragon.
Finding her was easy; the real challenge was explaining how he had located her and convincing her to impart the knowledge he required.
Unless absolutely necessary, Gaven was not keen on close contact with Legendary Spellcasters just yet, especially one as unfathomable as a Legendary Arcanist. The slightest misstep could leave him stripped to his undies.
Compared to that risk, he preferred to keep control of the situation in his own hands.
The Laughing Bandit Inn was of a most standard square layout.
There was only one main entrance in the center. Upon entering, guests were greeted by a corridor that spanned from south to north, splitting the entire construction in two, with symmetrically distributed rooms on both sides, and the size of the rooms was mostly consistent.
There were at least twenty rooms per floor, across four floors.
It could easily accommodate a small army.
For the stone part of it, sixty to seventy percent was still relatively intact, and most areas could be dealt with using the Complete Repair Technique.
The rest, made of other materials, were essentially beyond repair.
The combustible parts were mostly burned away.
What was non-combustible was largely melted or twisted, their only worth being to be melted down and reforged.
Most parts of the place remained as they had been after the fire had been extinguished.
This indicated that in the three years since, people from Anfield Village had barely visited the place, evidently harboring a considerable unease toward the location.
Ever since Gaven stepped into the inn, the crying of the woman enveloped him, coming from the left, right, front, behind, from afar, and near, unpredictable in its movements.
But to Gaven, such an attempt to frighten was laughable.
One mustn’t forget that Gaven was equipped with the lesser Divine Artifact of the Insight Gemstone, with the Eye of Truth activated.
Whether it was the Shadow Plane, the Fey Plane, or the Ether Plane, or even the demi-planes, all related invisibility abilities were ineffective against him.
He located the source of the voice at a glance, a mist that was barely there, less substantial than even a phantom, flickering intermittently. Each time it changed location, the position of the voice would shift accordingly.
Gaven detected no negative energy from it, so the Shadow Plane was ruled out.
His connection to the Fey Plane was also strong, and it would be characterized by a rich natural essence, thus that was ruled out as well.
That left the most likely possibility being the Ether Plane.
If the Fey Wilderness and the Shadow Plane were the echoes of the material world, then the Ether Plane was the echo of the mind.
While it contained material elements, it was influenced by the mind and spirit, hence it was also known as the Spirit World.
Therefore, different people, and even different regions, had widely varied perceptions of the Ether Plane.
