Chapter 568: Chapter 457: Journey Afar (End of this Volume)_3
Now that both reasons ceased to exist, most members of the Golia Tribe could not stay peacefully in Mesnoel. For them, this kind of life was too stable, too comfortable.
Food was ready at hand, and while one dare not say meals arrived as soon as one opened one’s mouth, at least they had no worries about clothing and food. The difficulty of hunting in Mir Forest was much lower than in the high mountains.
But the Golia were also the main force of Mesnoel’s defense, so it wouldn’t be quite appropriate for all of them to leave.
Therefore, they went ahead and moved up their wager; Chieftain Fearless Boulder led part of the Mountain Tribe back to the great mountains, while the rest established a semi-permanent settlement in Mesnoel with Kellysha, dividing their warriors in half.
"City Lord, please wait a moment," said Chieftain Fearless Boulder, leading the Golia team standing firm at the Mystlock Locks exit, turning to Gaven. "We truly apologize for leaving with the tribe’s main force at this time. We should stay a bit longer until Mesnoel’s situation stabilizes..."
Gaven smiled and waved his hand, saying, "Chieftain, please do not think that way. You have already helped me greatly before, and many warriors’ shadows are still here in Mesnoel!"
Not all shadows were willing to sign contracts with their former owners. They were more interested in taking their places and transforming into True Wraiths.
These shadows were now at the Shadow Weaving Factory, undergoing labor reeducation.
"Just storing their shadows here, we trust in the City Lord’s methods; it won’t be long before they obediently return," Fearless Boulder Chieftain stated with absolute certainty.
His confidence in the young man before him surpassed even that in himself.
"If you encounter any trouble in the mountains, just send word back. Mesnoel will always be your support, your home. I’ll spare no effort to help you." Although their time together was short, Gaven had a heartfelt fondness for this simple and straightforward giant race.
"The moment City Lord blows the war horn again, no matter where we are, we will rush back to support the city as fast as we can," Fearless Boulder Chieftain likewise pledged solemnly.
Not only he, but the entire Mountain Tribe of Golia, now had a deep sense of belonging to Mesnoel; there was much less resistance to establishing a semi-permanent residence than at first.
But some things are buried deep in their souls, embedded in their bones, and are unchangeable.
The longer they stayed in a comfortable life, the stronger they felt the mountains calling them.
"When we meet next, it might just be in the great mountains," Gaven commented with a meaningful smile.
It was about time for Blood Claw and his Hobgoblin contingent to arrive at Thacel. They were meant to stir up trouble in the Marching Mountains, and it was possible they would intersect with the Mountain Tribe heading back to the mountains.
Gaven would have to make this clear to Blood Claw to prevent the allies from fighting each other.
"The mountains will always welcome you. If you wish to visit, we will show you the most beautiful sights the great mountains have to offer," Fearless Boulder Chieftain said, believing Gaven’s comment was about visiting the mountains for leisure.
"I surely will if the opportunity arises," Gaven said, pausing at the great gate of Mystlock Locks. "All good things come to an end; this is where I say farewell. I look forward to our next battle side by side."
"I too look forward to charging forward again under City Lord’s lead," Fearless Boulder Chieftain laughed heartily, waved magnanimously, and strode swiftly in pursuit of his departing tribe. The bold and resonant songs of the Golia echoed in the distance, and soon there were singing voices around, as if the whole mountain responded to them.
Gaven turned to Kellysha who had also come to see them off and said, "I’m beginning to understand what you meant when you said, ’the true Golia are those in the mountains.’ Do you regret your decision?"
"No regrets yet," Kellysha replied earnestly, looking down at Gaven. "I hope City Lord won’t make me regret it. Rather than watching the sunrise over the Marching Mountains, I prefer the lightning strikes at Komeer Thunder Peak, long for the molten magma flows of Enser Smoky Mountain Range, wish to ski from the highest icy peaks of the glaciated summit, and desire to trek across the World’s Ridge that nobody has been able to traverse by foot."
This response left Gaven surprised.
These were just famous mountains he had mentioned offhand to convince the Golia, but Kellysha not only remembered them, she remembered them exactly. Seeing her serious expression, it was clear she was not joking; she was earnest.
She had not given up on the Golia’s longing for the mountains but had found a new direction, imparted unwittingly by Gaven.
Gaven replied seriously, "Very well, I’ll arrange it as soon as possible. However, I recommend against climbing alone. You should form a strong elite squad because those mountains you speak of are none too peaceful. During the climb, you’ll need to face not just natural hazards but also the threat of local residents who are typically inhospitable."
"Understood," Kellysha nodded, grasping the point.
"For the next while, Mesnoel is in your hands; proceed with everything as we’ve decided in the meetings. I’ll be returning from time to time." Now that the immediate threats to Mesnoel had been addressed, Gaven was ready to play the role of an absentee landlord once more.
This was inevitable with the growth of power; his steps could not be confined to one city, one place.
After everyone responded in unison, Stelina couldn’t help but ask curiously, "City Lord, where do you plan to go this time?"
"Waterdeep City!"
"Waterdeep City? What are you going to do in Waterdeep City?"
"To seek a path for professional advancement."
"What sort of professional advancement requires traveling to such a distant place?"
"Arcane Adept."
