Chapter 553: Chapter 452: Magic War_3

How many constitution points does a person have?

Even a robust Golia, most of them have only seventeen or eighteen points, and can be poisoned to death in less than a minute.

Beings with more than six Life Dice can withstand it without making Constitution saving throws, but sustained damage cannot be avoided unless you have a Special Ability for toxin immunity.

Normally, this spell has a fatal flaw: it moves slowly (advances three meters per turn) and has a limited coverage area, especially for a Golia with terrifying jumping capabilities. Just a leap, and it’s hard to cover them.

But under the cover of darkness, by the time it’s noticed, the spell has already unleashed its first wave of damage.

"Don’t panic, maintain order, Gnoll Trap Makers, center the Death Cloud Spell and deploy the Pitfall Spell."

In the darkness, crisp orders were followed by silently forming pits.

The movement of the Death Cloud was arrested and began to flow slowly towards the pits.

This is another characteristic of the Death Cloud Spell: it’s heavier than air and will flow downward, even pouring into caves or depressions.

This characteristic can play a special role in certain battles, like forcing enemies out of small caves or depressions they can’t burrow into, proving particularly effective against numerous subterranean insect foes, such as giant ants.

However, it also can be contained by special spells like pitfall traps.

The Gnoll Trap Maker’s Pitfall Spell is a third-level spell, using it to invalidate a fifth-level spell is a very profitable exchange in spell confrontation.

Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!

No sooner had they dealt with the Death Cloud Spell than those Dwarven Elf Priests stirred up a new trouble.

The air was filled with the sounds of corpulent locusts flapping their wings.

The Plague of Insects.

Also a fifth-level spell.

It can summon swarms of locusts, one swarm for every three Professional Levels.

These insect swarms not only possess mind-disturbing properties but also bring disease. Sustained nibbling will poison and directly damage one’s Constitution.

Cheep cheep!

Hou hou!

Before these insect swarms could even start their actual attack, they were completely annihilated.

Because reinforcements from Mesnoel had arrived.

The sky was covered entirely by a massive flock of birds. Although the insect swarms were summoned by magic and were indeed locusts, they were still overwhelmed by their natural enemies. When tens of thousands of birds swooped down from above, even any remaining locusts could no longer form into swarms and pose a threat.

The ground trembled as bison, sheep, deer, boars, Ferocious Tigers, Forest Panthers, Owl Bears, and other magical and non-magical creatures from the Mir Forest thundered across the battlefield, causing chaos. They seemed to possess a certain intelligence, at least capable of recognizing the scent of Mesnoel’s defense forces and deliberately avoiding them.

As for the rest, they showed no mercy.

With just one wave of their charge attack, they vanished into the depths of the Mir Forest.

These birds and beasts had been the native inhabitants of the Mir Forest, driven out during Mesnoel’s eradication of the Necrotic Plague.

Although Gaven couldn’t command them, he could influence and herd them, letting them act on their instincts to launch an assault.

The effect was surprisingly good.

They became disruptors on the battlefield, thoroughly disrupting the Dwarves Elf’s attack rhythm.

By the time the large group of birds and beasts had disappeared, Mesnoel’s defenders had taken the opportunity to reorganize their ranks and shifted their attack direction, circling around to another side of the flame encirclement.

Even though the Dwarves Elf quickly caught up and resumed their entanglement in battle, the battlefield they had prepared with great effort was rendered useless, forcing them to start anew.

But many of the Dwarves Elf had already depleted their spellcasting abilities and were unable to achieve the sky-filling expanse of Dark Arts they accomplished earlier.

The battlefield was patchy, like the scalp of a man plagued by scabs.

Seeing his meticulously prepared tactics thwarted by a bunch of birds and beasts, Shadow Walker Night Shadow voiced his frustration with anger, "Lord Lilith, when do you plan to act?"

"As you wish," the Medusa Lord no longer made excuses and ordered her subordinates to sound the charge.

Her attack signal carried a distinct hissing of snakes, long and piercing, unmistakable.

The trees shook as enormous creatures emerged from the dense forest. They had bodies bulkier than bulls, legs not underneath but on either side, a typical lizard form, not four but eight thick and robust legs, heavily stepping as though they were shouldering not an ordinary body but a colossal statue.

Their steely, rust-colored spines covered their blue-grey backs, bristling with sharpness. Their massive heads appeared to be directly attached to their robust bodies, full of sharp fangs.

What was most distinctive were their eyes, bursting with a tangible Magic Aura, their blue-grey color seemingly ready to burst forth at any moment.

"Petrified Lizards, so many Petrified Lizards!"

"Are Petrified Lizards supposed to be this big? I remember them as medium-sized creatures!"

"Wild Petrified Lizards indeed are medium-sized creatures, but those bred by Medusa usually evolve into larger sizes."

"Be wary of their petrifying gaze, keep your distance, duck your heads, do not make eye contact with them!"

"So many huge Petrified Lizards, they must be bred by Medusa. Those beauties could be lurking among them, be careful not to be ambushed."

Many identified these monsters at a glance.

They are deadly hunters from the Dark Domain, especially in caves.
