Chapter 480: Chapter 418 The Disappearing Reward_1
"Thank you for your grace, my lady." By the time Gaven came to his senses and thanked the Goddess of Strategy, she had already returned to her realm, and standing in front of him was Zalanda, back to her normal state.
Not only had the Goddess of Strategy returned to her kingdom, but the soldiers she had summoned, upon losing the blessing of divine power, vanished in flashes of divine light, returning to their positions before the summoning.
Their armors, weapons, and mounts told them that what had transpired was no dream; they had indeed become the summoned warriors of the Goddess of Strategy. They were about to embark upon a new advanced profession—the Divine Power Warriors.
Zalanda flipped through the Path of War and smiled, "Now that you have thanked me, I shall bestow upon you a grace. It wouldn’t do for you to advance in one profession and not the other."
A large amount of experience value was siphoned from the Path of War and flowed into Gaven’s body.
"Stop, stop, stop, don’t waste it," Gaven hurriedly intervened, "My path is not that of a conventional profession; I am planning to combine the Mage with the Psychic Sorcerer into an Arcane Adept. It isn’t an advanced profession provided by the Magic Network; it requires a specialized mentor to guide the fusion and learning before it can be initiated."
Zalanda didn’t stop. She continued to transfer all the experience value accumulated in the Path of War into Gaven until it was complete, then explained, "This war is too extraordinary. Those who needed nurturing barely exerted any effort, so they couldn’t be endowed with it. On the contrary, you are the most suitable candidate.
Whether or not you decide to advance your professional level after the profession’s magic power reaches you is for you to determine. Once you find the method to initiate as an Arcane Adept, you can swiftly advance without delay."
"Holding onto profession magic power without using it is a waste. Since it can only be given to me, there’s no difference whether it’s stored here with me or with the Path of War," Gaven acknowledged the uniqueness of the Elite Grace from the Path of War and stopped fussing about it.
He indeed needed to speed up his advancement in professional levels.
Playing the fool can work on occasion, but over time, nobody will believe it.
Especially since the blockbuster success of Creator’s film, and Regina preparing to shoot a series of personal theme movies around him, which, while bringing him a great deal of fame, would also spill some of his secrets.
It was a trade-off.
"The profession of Psychic Sorcerer is rare in itself. An Arcane Adept that combines a Mage with a Psychic Sorcerer is even rarer. It is said to originate from the Legendary Arcanist Ioleum of Nesserel, in the Mage Kingdom of Halruaa, and is considered a lost advanced profession. Where do you plan to obtain such a specialized and unique inheritance? If you delay too long on this, it might be more a loss than a gain."
Gaven had discussed his future professional plans with her, and afterward, she had specifically looked into the advancement profession of Arcane Adept. The feedback she got was very pessimistic; not to mention knowing an Arcane Adept, many Mages, like her, had not even heard of this advanced profession prior to this.
"Arcane Adept does not originate from Nesserel but from the Psychic Empire of Zamudas. That nation’s number of Psychic Sorcerers is higher than the rest of Felen combined. Most of Felen’s professions and abilities related to the mind were unearthed during that time.
Nesserel’s Ioleum merely rediscovered and spread the knowledge that belonged to that nation," Gaven informed Zalada about the psychic knowledge of Felen, "As for the inheritance of the profession, I already have a lead on it, but I just haven’t had the time to pursue it yet. I’ll factor it into my plan when I get a chance."
Like how Gaven underestimated the speed with which he would return to Thacel, he also underestimated the pace at which he would stir up trouble in this life.
Especially after discovering the Fairy Wilderness, entangling his fate with the Dragon Oak Mother Tree and Lord Virginia, and activating the Milestone of Destiny.
It was an unstoppable cascade, akin to riding a rocket.
Even though most of his magic power was drained by the Milestone of Destiny, his professional level advancement remained impressively terrifying.
It was rare for anyone to raise their professional level beyond five in just under a year.
Their power was relatively limited at that time, and so were the tasks they could perform.
Normally, the battles Gaven participated in were not ones that others of the same professional level could partake in.
Such a swift elevation in professional levels was, therefore, only to be expected.
"As long as you are confident in your decision, that is fine by me. I need to return to organize troops to continue the eradication of the remaining Corruption Creatures. Letting even one escape would be a disaster for the surrounding civilians," said Zalanda, well aware of Gaven’s determination and decision-making. She didn’t need to worry about him.
Following a sharp whistle, a Bipedal Dragon arrived in response, ferrying her hastily back to Darama.
Many things needed to be ironed out while the iron was hot.
Pursuit of the Corruption Creatures was just one part; another was to utilize this opportunity to further solidify the Goddess of Strategy’s faith in Darama.
After seeing Zalanda off, Gaven searched for his own mount, the Half-Moon Colt, while also checking his condition.
Based on past experiences, the Milestone of Destiny should be responding by now.
Given the scale of this event, it should result in at least a golden Milestone of Destiny; it wouldn’t be impossible for it to be even more prestigious.
But after checking three times over, he found nothing.
There was neither a trace of a new Milestone of Destiny nor did he gain much experience apart from the Elite Grace from the Path of War.
Where was his reward?
Who had devoured his hard-earned accomplishment?
Scratching his head, Gaven pondered the sequence of events carefully.
Thinking it over, the incident might not yet be entirely over; the Milestone of Destiny may not be meant for him—at least, not the bulk of it. It could be intended for the Dragon Oak Mother Tree.
Just like Weizemay Manor, it isn’t implausible for the Dragon Oak Mother Tree to initiate its own template.
To see the final outcome, he would probably need to wait until the Dragon Oak Mother Tree had completely absorbed the Divine Root.
This made Gaven more expectant of the Dragon Oak Mother Tree’s reconstructive capabilities and more confident in her success. After all, with such a great deal of destiny magic involved, turning decay into a miracle would be easy.
Gaven quickly found the Half-Moon Colt, who was chasing after Corruption Creatures all over the place, and called out, "Leave this place to Lord Zalanda, we need to return to the Mir Forest, back to Mesnoel to see how things are there."
"Okay!" the Half-Moon Colt did not refuse.
Though she was the nemesis of those Corruption Monsters, their number was too great, and she simply couldn’t keep up with them, especially when her body was filled with the Power of Corruption, rendering her strongest attacks ineffective.
This place wasn’t the body of the Divine Root, so she couldn’t use the Corruption Blast at will.
The two of them flew along the path previously taken by the Divine Root.
The scenes they witnessed along the way made them gasp for air, giving them a deeper understanding of the ferocity of the Divine Root.
This being had absolutely no hint of humanity or mercy.
It didn’t follow any paths, but moved in a straight line, crushing all plants and animals in its way, anything that was an obstacle was pressed to the ground and tainted with corruption.
The tall trees of the Mir Forest, though not immediately dead, were also not far from death—unless someone saved them.
The surrounding land was even more spoiled by the Power of Corruption, and in a short time, nothing would grow here.
Although the Half-Moon Colt possessed the ability of the Corruption Furnace, it was nothing compared to the area of destruction caused by the Divine Root, like trying to extinguish a cartload of hay with a cup of water.
It would take at least two or three years to purify completely.
The Half-Moon Colt obviously couldn’t devote all her energy to this one task.
Quite open-minded, the Half-Moon Colt said to Gaven, "This is not entirely a bad thing, in time, with just a bit of maintenance, there will be a path leading deep into the Mir Forest, straight to Mesnoel, one that won’t be overgrown by the forest anytime soon. Under normal circumstances, to carve out such a path, we would definitely face strong opposition from the other forest species."
Gaven couldn’t help but laugh, "You do have a positive outlook. What was originally a disaster has turned into a good thing in your view."
The Half-Moon Colt, very humanely, said, "Things are already like this. Thinking this way makes us feel a little better."
"Right, we’ve just found a new method of Balance at the Dragon Oak Mother Tree that allows for more convenient purification of the Power of Corruption. I wonder if it would work for you."
What was limiting the Half-Moon Colt was the transformation speed of the Corruption Furnace. If she could use the Power of Undead to speed up this process, her usefulness could greatly increase.
"What method? Let’s try it right away?" The Half-Moon Colt couldn’t wait.
"Use Undead Power to accelerate the self-corruption of Corruption Power, making it easier to transform and absorb. I’ll try to guide a bit of Undead Power into your body; if there is any discomfort, immediately say..."
Before Gaven could fully start the attempt, the Half-Moon Colt repeatedly called for a stop, "No, this method won’t work. The Undead Power mixed in is hindering the speed at which I absorb the Corruption Power."
Gaven quickly stopped the guidance and concentrated his thoughts on the Half-Moon Colt’s body.
The Undead Power he had infused into her body had formed dense black spots denser than the Corruption Power, entangling and transforming the Corruption Power. But here, it lacked fluidity.
It was like a clot, obstructing the smooth circulation of Corruption Power in her body, growing more and more severe.
Because the Undead Power was continuously transforming the Corruption Power.
Only when Gaven withdrew the Undead Power did the clotting ease.
Seeing this, Gaven immediately understood what was happening.
The situation with the Half-Moon Colt seemed the same as with the Dragon Oak Mother Tree, but in reality, there was an essential difference.
The Half-Moon Colt was a living being, while the Dragon Oak Mother Tree was a plant.
The Half-Moon Colt’s Corruption Furnace merely imitated some of the plants’ traits but fell significantly short of a real plant, such as a vast root system and body for storing and transforming both Corruption and Undead Powers.
Keeping the Corruption Power constantly flowing through the Half-Moon Colt’s body, like biological blood, was the fundamental principle of the Corruption Furnace.
The reverse was also true; the system of the Half-Moon Colt wasn’t suitable for the Dragon Oak Mother Tree, because as a plant, it couldn’t achieve high-speed energy flow.
The main thing was to accumulate and transform the energy, then absorb it slowly through its own circulation.
"All things come in threes," Gaven couldn’t help but exclaim, "Indeed, this is the ultimate truth; the fourth kind of element, originally beneficial, has become detrimental."
"This method may be useless for me, but not necessarily for Lord Black Nanmu and Lord Five-Willow. They specialize in Undead Power," the Half-Moon Colt suggested proactively.
Gaven’s eyes lit up, and he laughed heartily, "How could I forget about them? I’ll have to try it when I get a chance... This is Mesnoel, truly the jewel of the Mir Forest. Even though it has been tarnished by the Power of Corruption, its beauty and grandeur cannot be completely concealed."
Mesnoel belongs to a mountainous city, a forest mountain city.
The forest and hills merge perfectly together.
It mainly features two types of architecture: one is the Fae Race’s most common living tree construction, where everything is grown from trees.
The other is living rock construction, which, as the name implies, is built from rocks, crystals, gemstones, and many other natural materials that have grown.
This type of construction isn’t shaped with Stone Shaping Spells, but is the work of higher elven magic—Heaven Craft.
Those Elf high mages use their own will as seeds, harmonizing with the earth, letting it grow according to their will. Since everything is naturally grown, this method is known as Heaven Craft.
