Chapter 385: Chapter 324 Local War in Spring Bud Forest_1
"Lord, you’ve considered everything thoroughly. I will include this as one of the research conditions," Daphne hurriedly responded, almost taking out a notebook to jot down notes.
Being scheming means having an active mind and comprehensive thoughts. When one serves another with all their heart, that person will feel very comfortable.
Now Gaven was that person.
This allowed Gaven to somewhat understand Qianlong’s feelings, knowing why he continued to use He Shen despite being aware that he was a corrupt official.
Because he was capable and extremely good at serving people, some shortcomings were naturally tolerable.
The various unconventional control methods now in his possession allowed him to enjoy the feeling of being served by treacherous officials while keeping their flaws suppressed to the minimum.
Gaven gathered his wandering thoughts and nodded to Daphne, "Continue."
Taking the opportunity, Daphne organized her thoughts and said, "The first method is to find a more optimal liquid Negative Energy source, building entirely on the current energy supply system of this device.
The second method is to partially modify the device’s energy supply system to use solid energy sources. I know of a gemstone from the Shadow Plane called Shadow Crystal, which is a high condensate of Negative Energy, containing an immense amount of Negative Energy.
Even a small piece can power the device for several months."
"Shadow Crystal? How can one obtain this kind of gemstone?" Gaven heard this name for the first time.
"They usually appear in veins within the Shadow Plane, potentially in any kind of vein. Opportunities to come across them in the Material Plane are relatively scarce. They are often found in the hands of Shadow Spirits. Veins with more concentrated Negative Energy in the Material Plane may occasionally produce them, but in far lesser quantities compared to those in the Shadow Plane," Daphne answered.
Gaven shook his head, "Let’s not consider this method for now; it presents a dual difficulty, both modifying the keg’s energy system and figuring out how to obtain Shadow Crystals. Tell me about your third method."
Daphne didn’t show any sign of disappointment. After all, she was only responsible for making suggestions; the choice was up to Gaven and the others. "The third method involves a complete overhaul of the device’s energy system, using a Magic Ritual to further amplify the shadow consciousness within the device and strengthen its connection to the Shadow Plane, allowing it to autonomously draw Negative Energy from the Shadow Plane."
"That’s good, the third method is good..." Vick excitedly called out from the side.
Making the keg move permanently was what he wanted to do.
That was how the Spellbook described it too.
However, they had not found a way to do so yet and had resorted to the current method of using external fuel to drive it.
"If this method is viable, then the device will become like a simplified version of a golem," Gaven naturally also hoped for this method.
But this method was undoubtedly the most difficult, as it involved Magic and Magic Rituals.
Gaven’s gaze unintentionally swept over Daphne, and then he clapped his hands emphatically, "Why must we create shadow consciousness ourselves? We already have a ready-made one in our possession, or rather, we could directly use the existing one."
Daphne was so astute that she got it immediately, exclaiming with enlightenment, "Do you mean us, my Lord?"
Indeed, how could she have forgotten that?
These Shadows, Ghosts, and similar spiritual bodies are the perfect connection points to the Shadow Plane.
Does this not mean that she could also operate such a device, even without an energy supply?
If this was indeed possible, could she create a mechanical physical body for herself?
As these thoughts reached their climax, Daphne became quite excited, elevating her level of interest in this matter to new heights.
Because this not only demonstrated her capabilities but was also intimately related to herself.
Daphne hurriedly said to Vick, "Sir, may I try and see if I can operate it?"
"Sure." Vick hopped out of the keg, readily agreeing.
He was quite curious to see how these Ghosts would pilot the keg.
With an attitude of giving it a shot, Daphne stepped forward, not floating into the driver’s compartment, but overlapping with it entirely since she was a Ghost.
A magical scene ensued.
It seemed as if the keg had a pull of attraction, the soul of the Comanso Tiger underneath Daphne was directly drawn in, and countless streams of Shadow Energy fluttered out from Daphne’s body, infusing into every tube. From a distance, it looked as though numerous tentacles had extended from her body, turning the keg into her lower half.
Thud... thud... thud...
The keg started to make strange noises again, shaking uncontrollably, with four mechanical arms spinning and flailing wildly as if out of control, swaying on its own.
"It’s moving, it’s really moving."
"It really works, this method really works."
"Ghosts can control this kind of device."
Vick jumped in amazement—the keg’s energy had already been depleted.
Gaven’s eyes sparkled, seeing more possibilities.
Although Weizemay Manor had imprisoned many of the Dwarves Bound Spirits and Soul Prisons, their combat potential had not been fully tapped.
After all, most of the Dwarves had been warriors in life, and once they became Ghosts, they couldn’t use their preferred weapons, having to rely on the negative attacks of the Ghosts.
They would be invincible against ordinary people.
But once they encountered someone prepared, there would be a significant discount—even an ordinary person carrying Holy Water could potentially harm them.
If they could control a device like this, their combat strength would not merely recover; it would increase significantly, given that they would then have Dual Form.
Besides, this device could be further extended.
Gaven was planning to turn Weizemay Manor into a Ghost Factory, and he wondered if this method of building devices could be extended into the manor’s industrialization?
Direct energy extraction from specters, controlling device operations.
After a sequence of erratic gyrations, Daphne directed her ghostly mount out of the device and exclaimed excitedly, "Lord, this method is indeed feasible, but substantial adjustments must be made—not just to the structural layout but also to the power supply system. I already have a plan.
That is, to fashion arrays atop it that communicate with the Shadow Plane, so as to enhance the specters’ ability to directly draw negative energy from the Shadow Plane.
In that case, they will not only be capable of operating the devices for longer periods, but the devices will also become more potent."
"Good, very good, that’s excellent. We now have many research directions," Gaven affirmed them and continued, "However, this is not your immediate research priority. What you should first work on is how to integrate this power supply system with the new spinning machinery in the textile workshop, to enable easier driving by specters, achieving even further automation."
"Understood." Daphne was beginning to grasp Gaven’s style of doing things.
His focus was not purely on military force but also on production.
Especially in Weizemay Manor, production driven by specters was his most valued aspect.
If this matter could be well addressed, it would surely win his favor.
The power supply system she had previously mentioned was not only applicable to such bizarre devices but could also be applied to the manor’s production devices.
Killing two birds with one stone.
This matter instantly became Daphne’s top priority and the most urgent issue at hand.
"You first bring out the design and concept drawings, then we’ll discuss further. As for matters in the study, go consult with Ms. Estelle," Gaven conclusively determined the course of action.
He deeply understood that such research and modification work was not something that could be accomplished overnight. It required time to settle and the accumulation of more experiences.
At best, it was an unexpected bonus that didn’t offer much help with the current situation.
He still had to proceed methodically, following his original plan.
The visits by Lord Virginia to Weizemay Manor were not fixed. Sometimes he would come twice in one day, and sometimes it would be several days before his next visit.
Though the direct warfare between Spring Bud Forest and the Foul Giants and Ghost Witch Alliance had not yet begun, secret wars were already underway.
The tactic employed by the Black Mirror Kingdom remained conventional—corruption, the defilement of the forest.
But this time, instead of focusing on a single point, they sent their dark servants deep into Spring Bud Forest to self-implode in sacrifice, using the power of evil to corrupt all living beings in the forest.
Although this type of corruption was temporary and, if left unattended, Spring Bud Forest could gradually dispel the power of corruption through its natural cycle.
However, it would be a long-drawn process, taking at least three to five years to achieve.
During this period, the forest would suffer tremendous damage and impact.
Forests corrupted by the power of evil—plants would become semi-animate, and both carnivorous and herbivorous animals would be highly aggressive and exhibit severe malevolent tendencies.
If it had been any other time, this move would have caused Spring Bud Forest great distress, severely damaging the natural balance and frequently mobilizing military forces and local Druids.
But now, Spring Bud Forest had the War Giant Tree and the Dragon Oak Dream Realm.
Though the War Giant Tree couldn’t move and the Dragon Oak Dream Realm couldn’t encompass the entire Spring Bud Forest, with Lord Virginia using the close connection between himself and Spring Bud Forest, borrowing the overall power of the Dragon Oak Dream Realm to momentarily relocate it to a point within Spring Bud Forest was not a difficult task.
With tens of thousands of Fae Race collaborating, this temporary corruption was cleared in just a matter of minutes.
Now, the most challenging task was locating these points of temporary corruption.
Meanwhile, Lord Virginia also found himself more tightly bound to his own territory and the War Giant Tree, unable to leave lightly.
Fortunately, Gaven had now secured his position in Weizemay Manor, and was no longer so reliant on Lord Virginia’s resources for transportation.
Single trips, especially returns to the War Giant Tree, were not solely dependent on Lord Virginia.
Gaven’s Dragon Oak Flawless Teleportation could also carry people.
However, the number that could be carried was very limited; he could transport one medium or small-sized creature per three Professional Levels.
Normally, Half-Moon Colt certainly couldn’t be brought along.
But once a Shrinking Spell had been cast, there would be no issue.
"This is..."
The process of Gaven casting the Dragon Oak Flawless Teleportation was also his means of communicating with the Dragon Oak Mother Tree.
The Dragon Oak Mother Tree manifested faintly, with an overwhelming surge of life force.
A potent pulling force emanated from below.
Luna, being of a natural race, was inherently sensitive to this natural power. Even having lived her whole life in the Monastery of the Hammer of Justice, filled with the Holy Light, this racial trait could not be changed.
It was this very trait that allowed her to strike a conversation with the reticent Thornspike and his group of Treants upon their first encounter.
And it was this trait that led her to feel a strong affinity and trust towards Gaven after their first meeting, unafraid of venturing into an unknown land.
But she discovered that she had vastly underestimated Gaven’s connection with the natural world and the Fairy Wilderness.
Not only did he possess the Druidic Enlightenment, but he could also freely travel between the Material Plane and the Fairy Wilderness.
Forget regular people; even most of the Fae Race born in the Material Plane lacked such an ability. To enter or exit the Fairy Wilderness, they required a veil or corresponding teleportation gates or spells.
But Half-Moon Colt soon realized that this was just the beginning of her astonishment.
