Chapter 344: Chapter 284 Land of Sealing_1
A surging underground river flowed past this spot.
Bursting forth from a massive cavern, it then disappeared into another on the opposite end.
Elvis’s seal was located amidst this dark cavern’s underground river.
It took full advantage of the terrain and exploited the vampire’s weakness—the affliction from running water.
A vampire caught in the river was like a human immersed in strong acid, constantly suffering from acid burns, no less than being exposed to sunlight.
The mere existence of this underground river was troubling for the vampires.
They couldn’t enter the water, and couldn’t even touch the true form of the Divine Child, Elvis.
They had thought of blocking the source of the underground river to stop its flow.
But the river’s surging power was beyond imagination, so wide and deep with such a swift current that, with their abilities, they couldn’t come close to blocking it.
They sent enchanted, humanoid creatures to investigate.
It was said that the Divine Child Vick was encased in a fine gold coffin forged into a single piece, bound by endless chains in the very center of the river.
These were merely physical restraints; there were also magical seals.
At the very least, those enchanted humanoids couldn’t even get close to the fine gold coffin.
Gaven and his companions could say they had arrived at the Land of Sealing without any obstacles.
There wasn’t a single person, not even a ghostly shadow, in sight.
Yet the more this was the case, the heavier the sense of unease in everyone’s hearts.
"What do you think, could that vampire Sacrificer called Belinda have already learned of the demise of her comrades and, stricken with fear, fled in advance?" Darnell seemed relatively optimistic.
"It’s not impossible," Gaven didn’t deny the possibility, "but given the vindictive nature of the Dwarves Elf, even if she retreated, she wouldn’t do so without any activity. If she had turned all those captured Thacel refugees into zombies to attack us, then I would believe she had fled knowing the difficulty she faced."
"You mean to say, there might be an even bigger trap waiting for us ahead?" Darnell furrowed his brows.
"Eight or nine out of ten," Gaven felt his intuition was correct.
Leaving from here now would be an excellent choice.
Yet, no matter what, he couldn’t bring himself to voice this suggestion.
Since sixty-nine Thacel refugees had been captured, their fates unknown.
To give up at this time would render all previous efforts in vain, and those Thacel refugees would find it hard to trust in themselves again, not to mention following him to the Three Rivers Region.
Even if he mentioned it, aside from the two he had brought, it was unlikely the others would agree.
Some things are known to be fraught with peril ahead, yet one must face them head-on.
This was one such situation.
"Master, there’s a strong scent of blood—a faint sound of someone calling for help," the perceptive Dog Demon with keen ears and nose was the first to detect the anomaly.
Immediately afterwards, two Holy Warriors’ expressions changed subtly as they started off toward the raging river at a brisk pace.
"Be cautious, there could be traps," Gaven called out urgently.
But the two Holy Warriors, eager to rescue, turned a deaf ear to Gaven’s warning.
Or rather, they had known all along that this could very well be a trap and bait, evident from the way they held their shields in position.
But their holy mission as Paladins compelled them to go and investigate the situation.
"That damned bastard," Darnell roared in anger.
Gaven and the others followed right behind Darnell, and upon seeing the situation across the river, they couldn’t help but gasp in shock.
Strewn haphazardly on the river’s opposite bank were copious humanoid creatures.
These creatures were of many different races, including humans, elves, hobgoblins, orcs, jackalweres, and more, with the majority being Thacel refugees.
All in all, there were more than two hundred.
Each one’s face was a ghostly pale, their hands and feet securely bound.
They each had a cut on their limbs, and blood was slowly trickling onto the riverbank and into the underground river.
It was unclear how long they had been bleeding since none of the wounds were showing any signs of healing; the blood continued to flow uninterruptedly.
Strangely enough, though the river’s water was raging, the blood trickling into it didn’t get washed away but remained floating in place, having already stained a third of the river surface red.
The arrival of Gaven and his group was like flipping a switch.
A gloomy light shone from above, and a powerful suction force emerged.
Dark shadows wriggled out from the bleeding humanoids and were sucked into a desiccated severed palm above, instantly recognizable as belonging to a Dwarves Elf, adorned with numerous silver rings.
If that wasn’t the unholy emblem of the active Undead Goddess of Revenge, what was?
Those dark shadows were naturally the souls of the humanoid creatures; as the first soul was absorbed, the withered palm seemed to be invigorated, visibly regaining liveliness before their eyes.
As the palm revived, it generated a more powerful suction, ripping more souls from their bodies and channeling them into the palm, thereby increasing its soul-sucking power and harvesting more souls.
It was a complete cycle.
Let alone those humanoid creatures dying from blood loss and barely clinging to life.
Even Gaven and his party, unscathed as they were, could distinctly feel the powerful pull from the severed palm, almost as if it could wrench their souls right out of their bodies.
"It’s a trap—the space here is locked down with no way to teleport," Lord Virginia warned urgently, her expression grave.
As a Yaling Lord, under normal circumstances, even in death, her body would regenerate in her domain, provided her soul could return.
The current situation was clearly designed to target souls.
That Dwarves Elf severed palm didn’t look like something mundane at all.
Once a soul was sucked into that thing, no one knew what fates awaited them.
In any case, Lord Virginia didn’t dare to risk it.
Upon hearing Lord Virginia’s warning, Gaven immediately felt for his Milestone of Destiny ability—the Dragon Oak Mother Tree’s Flawless Teleportation.
Similarly, it was in an unusable state, although there were differences in the process of casting, but essentially, it was also a kind of teleportation portal.
Being able to teleport and retreat at any time was their biggest trump card, and now that card was banned.
Looking back, in battles above Transcendent level, banning teleportation is standard practice.
Previously in Ghost Manor, Gaven employed this tactic to trap those Dwarves Elf Avengers.
Now he had simply become the one trapped.
"This is a Sacrificial Array of the Evil God, and the entire cavern is one, we’re right in the heart of the Array. That Dwarves Vampire Priest is planning to use us as sacrifices, offering us to the Goddess of Undead Vengeance," the Transcendent Priest Olive identified their predicament without delay.
"If it was just being sacrificed, that would be one thing, but I’m afraid we’re right in the center of the battlefield now." Gaven’s expression was solemn. They had underestimated just how sinister and cunning Belinda, the Dwarves Vampire Priest, was.
This was a multifaceted gambit.
It prepared a fatal trap for their unidentified enemies, seeking revenge for her fallen comrades.
It would also fulfill the command given to her by the Goddess of Undead Vengeance.
To destroy a Blasphemer like Gaven was just convenient.
As for herself, she was already hiding who knows where.
No matter whether she succeeded or failed, there would be no loss for her.
Even if there was a loss, it would belong to the Goddess of Undead Vengeance, not to her.
"The center of the battlefield?" Virginia resonated quickly with Gaven’s thoughts, "You mean to say, Belinda’s ultimate goal is still to extract Divine Nature from the Divine Child Elvis through the Sacrificial Array? We are just incidental sacrifices?"
"Exactly, look over there, it has already started," Gaven pointed towards the Underground River.
Until now, their attention had been wholly captured by the unusual severed hand floating in the air, yet they hadn’t noticed that the Underground River was also undergoing changes.
A great amount of blood, initially gathered but remained distinct.
Now, it directly turned into a whirlpool, furiously converging towards the center of the Underground River, revealing the central object intermittently to everyone’s eyes.
That was a coffin.
A massive coffin made of Fine Gold.
It was covered with mysterious, exquisite elf-style runes.
Thick Fine Gold chains, as thick as an adult’s thigh, eight in total, were firmly nailing the Fine Gold coffin to the bottom of the Underground River.
They had already heard about the Fine Gold coffin from the Vampire Derivatives.
But hearing of it was one thing; actually seeing it was another.
Upon hearing extraordinary information, people tend to subconsciously assume the other is exaggerating.
The Fine Gold coffin was that kind of situation. A Gold coffin might be believed, but a Fine Gold coffin was like a pipe dream.
Fine Gold is known as the most durable metal in Felen, twice as hard as steel. If steel’s hardness is 10, Fine Gold’s hardness would be 20, and Mithril would be 15.
A piece the size of a thumb, when infused into a weapon, could greatly increase its hardness and sharpness, dubbed a Fine Gold Weapon. Most importantly, it could penetrate some special damage reductions, such as how only silver or Magic Weapons could harm Beastmen.
A chunk of Fine Gold the size of a fist, when melted into the forging of Armor, would significantly enhance defense, known as Fine Gold Armor. It would provide a certain degree of damage reduction, with the specific amount depending on the amount of Fine Gold used.
The Combat Armor on Gaven’s body was made of a Fine Gold and Mithril alloy. Its significant damage reduction was largely due to Fine Gold.
On the market, even Gold is sold by the gram, not to mention Fine Gold, which is dozens of times more expensive.
The Fine Gold coffin and chains in the Underground River were definitely calculated by the ton.
As to whether it’s plated or an alloy.
In the beginning, there might be such suspicions, but when violent impacts came from inside the coffin, all doubts evaporated.
The blows were so fierce.
That the whole heavy coffin bounced around, and the thick Fine Gold chains rattled loudly.
The entity sealed within the Fine Gold coffin had awakened.
That was thanks to the blood of those humanoid creatures.
Although the Fine Gold coffin was cast perfectly round and integral, what was sealed inside was no ordinary being.
Especially after being sealed for so many years, with the help of the Dwarves Vampires, the magic seals had already been greatly weakened.
Extracting blood from the flowing river into the coffin was not a difficult task.
The essence of the blood of hundreds of humanoid creatures allowed the Legendary Vampire to regain some of its Strength, hitting the coffin even harder, seemingly determined to break out of the sealing at all costs.
When the entity inside the coffin began to stir, the Dwarves Elf severed hand floating above also started to move.
It switched from being upright to pressing down, assuming a grasping pose aimed not at Gaven and his group, but at the Fine Gold coffin.
While the Dwarves Elf hand was powerful, it was ultimately an inanimate object and, without someone controlling it,
It wouldn’t optimize its actions but would follow its initial programming.
Though it appeared to be a mere gesture, it possessed terrifying Strength.
With a loud ’bang,’
The Fine Gold coffin didn’t just thrash about wildly; it rose, all eight Fine Gold chains stretched taut, emitting pained groans.
As if a terrifying force was tearing at the Fine Gold chains, trying to uproot them altogether.
And to do so was the most foolish of moves.
Because it would mean that all eight Fine Gold chains were being pulled on with great force—and uniformly at that, maximizing their locking strength.
This principle is like trying to uproot a tree by pulling it straight up.
It’s far less efficient than swaying it side to side or pulling it over from the side.
The next second, Gaven and the others knew.
It wasn’t that the person who set up the Sacrificial Array was foolish, but rather, she wasn’t helping the other to escape at all, she was directly extracting what she needed from them.
