Chapter 342: Chapter 283: So That’s How It Can Be Used_1
"There’s such a thing? Let me have a look."
Olive took the spear with an incredulous expression and closed her eyes to perceive its resonance.
After only a few seconds, she opened her eyes again, the incredulity in them even more intense, "Indeed, there is regenerative power contained within it. With this, although I can’t perform the Regeneration Technique, I can help these injured soldiers, reattach limbs. What are you waiting for? Find their severed limbs, clean the wounds, and unwrap all bandages."
When the same command was given by Gaven and Olive, the effect was completely different.
After all, Olive was the expert in this area, and if she said so, she was certainly right.
The wailing that had filled the granary suddenly reduced by more than half.
The soldiers were howling partly because of the physical pain, but also because of the trauma to their spirits.
Those who had lost arms and legs would basically be disabled for life, with no chance of adventuring, especially sailing, which they would have to bid farewell to for the rest of their lives, unless they had the wealth to employ a priest even more powerful than Olive to perform the Regeneration Technique on their behalf.
Not to mention how difficult it would be to find such a priest, just the cost of hiring one would be an immense challenge.
When whole and healthy, they could have thought of a way, but now with missing arms and legs, it was harder than reaching the skies.
Now, quite unexpectedly, because of a long spear brought by Gaven, they regained hope of limb reattachment.
Their hearts were immediately filled with immense surprise, and in such spirits, even their wounds didn’t seem so painful anymore.
Looking for severed limbs was just a reminder.
In fact, there were no severed limbs strewn about everywhere or piled up indiscernibly.
Most of the injured soldiers, even without access to regeneration magic, instinctively gathered up their severed limbs carefully, to save them for potential future use—a slim hope was still a hope.
The main issue now was the cleaning of the limb wounds, especially the dust on the severed limbs.
Olive’s approach to cleaning was rudely simple; after receiving an injured soldier’s severed arm, she stirred it in a bucket of Holy Water a few times to clean off the dust and debris, and considered it done.
She did not concern herself with bacteria or the like.
Reattaching the limb was done in a similarly brutal manner, pressing it directly – most of the time quite roughly.
The young soldier bit his teeth so fiercely due to the pain that beads of sweat fell in torrents, but he dared not utter a sound.
Only when she held the Vampire Slayer’s Spear and touched its point to the wound did she become careful.
A visibly blood mist drifted from the tip of the spear, entering the severed limb.
The scene of vampire regeneration was now taking place on the young soldier’s body, as the flesh on either side of the severed limb seemed activated, with countless buds of flesh sprouting out and intertwining, healing at a visible speed.
As soon as the connection seemed firm enough, Olive immediately took away the Vampire Slayer’s Spear and then cast a Healing Minor Injuries spell on the young soldier.
"Alright, try it out, do you feel anything?" Olive asked the young soldier, slightly nervous.
She wasn’t sure if this method would work.
"Ouch!" The young soldier groaned softly, but still forcibly tried to clench the fist of his severed arm. It had to move to count as a successful attachment.
"It’s moving! It’s moving! It’s working."
"It’s really successful! That’s great, that’s great! We are saved!"
"Thank you, Lady Olive, thank you, Mr. Gaven, we are saved."
Those who were eagerly watching the young soldier were even more excited than the patient himself, their own fingers twitching with the urge to cheer at every movement.
The movement of one finger, like flicking a switch, gradually led to the movement of other fingers, becoming increasingly coherent, yet the young soldier’s face betrayed the unbearable pain from where the limb was attached.
"Okay, okay, that’s enough," Olive quickly intervened, "After all, this isn’t a true Regeneration Technique, and your wound hasn’t fully healed yet. A few more Healing Spells afterwards should be sufficient, but there may be complications. On rainy days, the wound might hurt, and there will likely be a circular scar at the site of the limb attachment – difficult to eliminate."
"That’s no big deal, no big deal, it’s functional – that’s what matters," the young soldier said repeatedly, his joy unmistakable regardless.
Compared to disability, such complications were trivial.
That was the wonder of magic.
If this were Earth, such limb reattachment would be considered nothing short of a medical miracle.
But in Felen, it was deemed a relatively unsuccessful treatment.
After the successful case,
both Olive and the other injured soldiers gained a lot more confidence, lining up for her to perform a simplified version of the Regeneration Technique.
When all the limb attachments were completed, there was still regenerative power left in the Vampire Slayer’s Spear,
causing Gaven to marvel; in the hands of a specialist, some things demonstrated a distinctly different level of efficacy.
Olive reluctantly handed the Vampire Slayer’s Spear back to Gaven and said, "Mr. Gaven, I have an impertinent request."
"Madam, please speak," Gaven said, suspecting what she was about to ask, since their dealings had been limited to the current situation.
"Once this is over, I would like to borrow your spear for research. If all goes well, I will be able to master the Regeneration Technique ahead of time, a limited version of it," Olive said somewhat sheepishly, "I know this is a bit... "
