Chapter 341: Chapter 282 Vampire Slayer_1

In a burst of astonished exclamations that seemed impossible, Gaven repeated the trick, the gun flipping open the natural bony breastplate, which then became the nourishment for the new wooden stake.

After absorbing the essence of the Dwarves Vampire warrior, the wooden stake underwent a new change, shimmering with silver threaded with gold.

Two bona fide Vampires allowed it to surpass the silver-ringed Vampire Stake that Darnell possessed, closing in on the one August had.

Killing ten or eight Vampire Derivatives couldn’t compare to one authentic Vampire.

The five Paladins who charged out right after the Dwarves Vampire warrior witnessed the entire process.

Even Darnell and August, with their vast experience, couldn’t help but sharply inhale in shock.

This ability to drag Vampires from their mist form back into a physical state was something they had neither seen nor heard of; it was simply the fatal bane of Vampires.

The challenge of attempting to escape as mist had always been one of their biggest headaches.

In this state, these creatures were immune to physical attacks, and by the time they forced Vampires into this state, they would have usually exhausted their spells and magic scrolls, leaving them no means to deal a fatal blow.

They could only watch helplessly as the Vampire escaped back to their tomb, only to re-emerge the next night, wreaking havoc once again.

With Gaven, however, dragging them back into their physical state made the rest of the process much simpler.

It was unknown if this ability could be used on other Spiritual Body creatures, but if so, it would be nothing short of divine arts for exorcising spirits; many troublesome spirits or ghosts would easily fall into their grasp.

Moreover, Darnell saw quite clearly that after the Vampire was destroyed, it was Amanda who absorbed into the shadow behind Gaven.

Gaven had previously told them that Estelle and her daughter had become Earthbound Spirits, but he never elaborated on their abilities, nor did he mention that Amanda was hiding in his shadow.

The problem was, weren’t Earthbound Spirits supposed to be confined to one place?

How did she become Gaven’s follower?

The terrifying power of Gaven’s Death Roar had left them utterly shaken.

If this device were to be used against their own heads, just imagining the situation was unbearable.

It looked somewhat like the Hand Cannons made by Gnomes, but the style was much more exquisite. Yet, was the power of a Gnome Hand Cannon this immense?

What the three Paladin apprentices envied the most was the gold and silver long spear in Gaven’s hand.

To a Holy Warrior, a Vampire Stake held special significance.

It was a kind of special medal of honor, showcasing one’s strength and achievements to others.

Of course, there were also Vampire Stakes passed down from their mentors or from generations at the Monastery.

But to inherit those, one needed adequate strength, which was a form of recognition as well.

Apprentices like them could not hope to receive such an inheritance; they needed to work hard for everything themselves.

Securing the kill on one or two Vampire Derivatives in the granary, thereby soaking the stake in Vampire blood to make it their own, was already quite a feat for them at their level, enough to boast about to their peers for three good years.

Then there was Gaven, who seemed about their age yet in the blink of an eye, had harvested the soul essence of two real Vampires, obtaining a stake that surpassed even Darnell’s.

He perfectly illustrated what was meant by the saying "there’s always someone better."

Vampire Slayer

Vampire Slayer (Special Ability): Stabbing a Vampire’s heart with this spear, if the Vampire’s life force is below thirty, it will be eradicated, and the soul essence will be absorbed by the spear. After using this spear to kill two Vampires, this ability will be further enhanced.

Limited Regeneration (Special Ability): The spear harbors Vampire essence, endowing the wielder with five points of regenerative ability, usable for three minutes each day.

Child of the Night (Special Ability): By possessing this spear, one can gain some Vampire abilities; as long as the sun hasn’t risen, the wielder can summon and control 1D4 swarms of rats or bats or control 1D6 wolves. These creatures can be commanded for ten minutes until the spear is no longer in your possession or death occurs. You may choose to disperse them at will.

These are the current attributes of this wooden spear.

Without doubt, the Vampire Slayer is part of the spear’s basic attributes. The Vampire Stakes held by Darnell and August probably possess this attribute, with August’s gold-rimmed one likely being even more formidable in this respect than the one in Gaven’s hand.

Ordinary stakes require reducing a Vampire’s life force to below ten before attempting a kill.

By that point, the Vampire would typically have already turned into mist to escape.

Limited Regeneration and Child of the Night, these two special effects, belong to the special abilities derived from the stake’s material. Normal Vampire Stakes would not have them, certainly not as potent, as none of the Holy Warriors possess the ability to control swarms of rats or bats like Vampires can.

There’s no need to elaborate on the Child of the Night ability; it’s quite powerful for ordinary people.

For Gaven, it’s better than nothing.

The Dog Demon can easily control dozens of wolves to guard his side.

It would only be used to summon a few disposable scouts while he was away.

What’s truly intriguing is the Limited Regeneration.

Five points of regenerative ability mean that one can heal five points of life force in a round (six seconds). In three minutes, that equates to the recovery of one hundred and fifty life points. Gaven’s total life force barely amounts to fifty-one points right now.

However, that’s not its most valuable aspect; after all, Healing Spells and Healing Potions can achieve similar results, even more effectively and rapidly.

Regeneration means wounds can heal, limbs can be reattached or even regrown.

The latter is not something regular Healing Spells can accomplish, but rather requires the Regeneration Technique, a seventh-tier spell that can only be cast by a thirteenth-level Priest, who are so rare that many major cities couldn’t even find a high-ranking Priest capable of it.

The Transcendent Priest that Regina hired was just a step away from casting such a spell, and she was considered one of the top-tier Priests in Battle Valley.

Gaven’s men, for a short time, couldn’t hope to have a priest of this level.

In the future, there would be no need to spend money to hire someone for this.

Of course, this kind of regeneration ability was limited to severed arms and legs. If it was a fatal injury like a severed head or a pierced heart, it would probably be powerless. After all, humans are not undead creatures like vampires.

The most valuable aspect of this long spear was its potential for growth.

The method of growth was simple: it was to continuously hunt vampires with it. The stronger the vampire, the faster it would grow, just like any other Vampire Stake.

While Gaven was taking stock of the loot, Darnell and August had already come over to greet him.

As soon as August opened his mouth, it was with his signature hearty laugh, "Gaven, my lad, you truly are no ordinary person to possess such unexpected tactics. If it weren’t for your help, this bastard might have gotten away and our efforts would have been in vain."

In their demeanor and actions, there was nothing but sincere gratitude, not a hint of jealousy over the vampire being stolen from them was visible.

This magnanimity was truly beyond what ordinary people could attain.

Gaven replied with a smile, "We just took advantage of having powers that could restrain him. In reality, from beginning to end, I was the one who exerted the least effort and truly picked up a bargain from you all."

He wasn’t being modest, but rather speaking the truth; he’d played dead from start to finish.

After being woken up, he fired three shots and picked up two heads.

"What bargain not picked up?" August waved his hand dismissively, "As long as we can thoroughly kill these unclean things, it’s all the same whose hands they fall into. Such words, Gaven, my lad, don’t mention them again in the future."

"Alright," Gaven knew the nature of these Paladins; if they were concerned about such matters, they wouldn’t be fit to be Paladins, "Do you have any vampire derivatives captured alive on your side?"

This was the strategy they had settled on from the beginning.

Vampires were too tricky, not only because of their formidable regeneration ability but also because of their numerous escape tactics: both misting away and turning into bats. If one wanted to capture a living specimen, a slight mishap could allow the enemy to escape.

The opportunity to completely annihilate them was the correct approach.

Even Kopofiel’s Soul Prison ability, Gaven had not dared to attempt recklessly.

After all, vampires differ from ordinary Undead Spirits, their souls might possibly be bound to their place of slumber, their own coffins.

But judging from the two instances of killing, it seemed that they hadn’t reached the state of a Witch where the Life Casket is invulnerable, and the soul does not perish.

As for vampire derivatives, there were no such concerns. Aside from their super-strong regeneration ability and limited Charm ability, they lacked other powers, such as misting or transforming into bats.

Controlling them was relatively easier.

"We’ve kept two," August answered, "We haven’t had time to pry their mouths open yet, let’s go take a look."

"Let’s go," Gaven did not waste words and followed August towards the granary.

They all understood the principle of the importance of swift action in military matters. The vampires that came to Thacel Refugee Camp to abduct people were most likely just a part of them, with another part in the Land of Sealing.

In contrast to Gaven’s easy manner, as he had been pressing and beating down the Dwarves Vampire Mage from start to finish,

over at the granary, even with the situation heavily ambushed, it was still somewhat difficult.

Especially for those ordinary soldiers, the battle situation was too high-end for them. A slight carelessness, and they would become cannon fodder.

The soldiers who were controlled by the vampire warriors were considered the lucky ones.

At the end of the war of attrition, after the vampire derivatives had suffered heavy casualties,

the Dwarves Vampire warriors completely disregarded any concerns and viciously unleashed their ferocity, transforming into bats and flying into the crowd of ordinary soldiers, then reverted to human form to embark on a killing spree.

Even with Kopofiel and the Transcendent Priest joining forces to block them, and five Paladins desperately coming to aid,

the losses were still severe, with many having severed arms or legs.

Several soldiers’ arms were not chopped off by the Vampire warriors’ twin swords but were violently torn off. The pain involved could only be imagined.

When Gaven entered the granary, the sounds echoing in his ears were all these painful wails.

Clearly, killing these soldiers was not the objective of the Dwarves Vampire warrior. Using their painful screams to demoralize them, creating patients in need of treatment to stop the pursuit, that was his main goal.

Indeed, it was because he lingered for a moment on these soldiers that the Dwarves Vampire warrior managed to break through the Sanctum’s anti-evil array and dash out.

As a result, he delivered himself in front of Gaven, the angel of death, allowing himself to die even quicker and more thoroughly.

Seeing this situation, Gaven rushed over without hesitation, saying at the same time, "Don’t bandage them up, don’t bandage, quickly find their severed limbs, clean the wounds, I have a way to reattach their limbs."

"You can perform Regeneration Technique?" The Transcendent Priest, who was treating the wounded, suddenly stopped, her gaze filled with undeniable perplexity.

This Transcendent Priest was a Moon Elf named Olive, who worshiped Corellon. She looked to be only in her thirties or forties, in the prime of her life.

But one should not measure her by human standards. Her actual age was probably ten times that. She emitted a quiet aura, more like a Druid than a Priest.

No wonder she was puzzled. Gaven didn’t look like a Priest at all, but rather like a warrior, both in stature and mannerism.

"I can’t perform it, but this long spear that killed the vampire seems to have absorbed a part of the vampire’s strength and can perform Limited Regeneration," Gaven said respectfully as he handed the long spear to Olive.

Although she couldn’t perform the technique, she was, after all, an expert in this field and was only one step away.

Perhaps in her hands, it could achieve unexpectedly significant effects.
