Chapter 337: Chapter 278 Who is the Prey?_1
Meanwhile,
a blazing white orb appeared in the middle of the granary, then exploded with a boom.
Upon encountering the black mist, the radiant light melted away like snow facing the sunlight.
Daylight Spell.
A third-level spell.
Capable of neutralizing dark magic of the same level, or even lower.
The vampire’s black mist was clearly a derivative of the third-level Dark Arts.
This was the second effect of the Sanctum, allowing the choice of one spell from many benevolent ones to take effect.
The church opted for removal of Fear to assist the villagers in resisting the terror brought about by vampires.
On this side, the most crucial task was to expose the vampires.
The two Transcendent Holy Knights could cast the Daylight Spell as well, but the effect wasn’t as ferocious as that of the Sanctum.
As both mists dissipated simultaneously,
sneaky figures emerged from within.
These elusive figures were slightly more slender than humans, with silver hair, pointed ears, and chocolate-colored skin—not the glossy type, but rather a dull shade of ash.
All clad in pitch-black armor, their style closely resembling that of the Elves, with elaborate and luxurious cutouts, more like works of art than practical armor.
They held no weapons in their hands; their curved fingers and long, sharp nails were like a set of short daggers—these were their most effective weapons.
Their eyes, crimson red, gleamed with a thirst for blood and inherent evil.
Dwarves Elf.
Vampire.
A combination of two creatures had resulted in the monsters before them.
More precisely, they were Dwarves Vampire Derivatives.
As it is well known, vampires feed on blood, especially craving the blood of sentient beings.
Those whose blood was entirely drained by vampires and who perished would not truly die; if buried, they would become new vampires.
If the victims had ten Life Dice in life, they would turn into true vampires after death.
If they had fewer than ten Life Dice, they would become vampire derivatives until they could elevate themselves above ten Life Dice and evolve into true vampires.
Simply put, vampire derivatives are a simplified version of vampires.
They possess some of the abilities of vampires but are not as powerful, yet they have all the weaknesses of vampires together with an insatiable craving for blood.
In other words, all vampires have more than ten Life Dice, making them a standard Transcendent Race.
Most ordinary people encounter vampire derivatives, unable to discern the difference between them.
To them, even a vampire derivative is a terrifying existence that cannot be opposed.
Suddenly exposed, these Dwarves Vampire Derivatives were quite uncomfortable, showing a delayed reaction.
"Explode!"
The moment the Sanctum rose and the black mist cleared, a command echoed from the crowd.
The ground beneath the vampire derivatives and the creatures they controlled heaved violently, followed by booming sounds as earth and rocks flew and acid splattered.
Dragon Tremor Bomb.
Beneath their feet, a significant number of Dragon Tremor Bombs had been buried.
In an instant, all were detonated.
This was the proper use of Tremor Bombs.
Tremor Bomb, Tremor Bomb.
First comes the tremor, then the explosion.
The Gnolls are not concerned with quibbling over words; they prefer straightforward understanding.
The name of this device, each word and character, carries its own meaning.
Though dropping Tremor Bombs from the sky like bombs would indeed have some power,
it falls short compared to burying Tremor Bombs deep into the earth, connecting with the Earth Element, and resonating with the land and the Magic Network—it makes them far more potent.
Zack could make the Tremor Bombs explode internally in the ground, blasting massive boulders weighing hundreds or even thousands of tons intact.
He could also concentrate the force of the Tremor Bombs for an instant release, ejecting the buried earth and rocks from the detonation site like cannonballs.
The Comanso Tigers and Owl Bears, with their large lower bodies firmly on the ground, had quite a bit of fun.
It was clear to all that one of the Dragon Tremor Bombs had exploded right beneath a Comanso Tiger.
The upheaving earth and rocks split open a horrific gash in its belly; its intestines spilled out, followed by green acid spurting out like a fountain.
As its belly was the first to take the hit and internal organs corroded to perforation, it fell over immediately, breathing in with difficulty and exhaling profusely.
Then there was a four-armed gorilla struck by a rock the size of a human fist right in its male pride—its testicles were probably shattered on the spot.
While not fatal, the creature dropped to its knees, clutching at its groin, unable to recover its fighting capabilities any time soon.
All the males present involuntarily winced and clenched their legs together upon seeing this.
Several creatures suffered broken limbs, burnt abdomens, and more were commonplace.
One Dwarves Vampire Derivative was incredibly unlucky.
Standing right over a Dragon Tremor Bomb, it wasn’t just one leg that was gone, but both legs below the knees were missing. The leg that stepped on the Bomb had half of its body obliterated, revealing the organs within.
Then came a chilling sight.
Numerous flesh buds sprouted from the wounds, not only plugging the gashes but also twisting and entangling as they grew rapidly. It wouldn’t take more than a few minutes for it to regrow new legs.
"Fire the Holy Water Arrows!"
"Shoot the Holy Water Javelins!"
But ambushes are chained traps, one leading to the next.
The Dragon Tremor Bomb had just been detonated when another volley of arrows and throwing spears descended from above.
But this time, both the arrows and spears were specially made, with glass bottles for arrowheads containing, of course, Holy Water.
Those injured Dwarves Vampires, especially the one who was most severely hurt, were the prime targets.
Hit by three arrows.
Awooo!
The Dwarves Vampire Derivative, previously showing little reaction despite heavy injuries, now howled manically and rolled about as if in immense pain.
As it was indeed the case.
Holy Water, harmless to humans, was more terrifying than sulfuric acid to a vampire—the sites where the arrows hit were fizzing with black smoke.
That was the vampire’s innate power, gathering in large amounts at the location corroded by the Holy Water, resisting its damage.
However, as a result, the wounds with no power to support them could not heal, at least not until the Holy Water was completely neutralized.
"Charge!"
The five Holy Warriors, fully prepared for battle, rushed forward.
Both their armor and weapons shimmered with a holy glow.
They had at least cast first-level spells to bless their weapons and had Divine Favor and Brute Force Spell cast upon themselves.
Their teamwork was practiced and adept; each of the five had their own target, preventing the awkward situation of two Holy Warriors rushing towards the same enemy.
The first to reach the enemy was the maiden Paladin, Ceylon, who had locked onto the most severely wounded Dwarves Vampire Derivative. As she charged forward, her blade swept out, radiating an even brighter holy light.
Evil-Slaying Slash!
This was a signature move of the Holy Warriors.
In such a strike, they would infuse full Positive Energy, dealing an additional soul-crushing blow to evil creatures.
This ability was effective only against evil creatures, and would not work on non-evil beings.
Aaah!
The Dwarves Vampire Derivative emitted a desperate scream, raising its claws in front of it, struggling in its final moments.
But the swordsmanship of the young Holy Warrior exceeded its expectations.
With a swift step, the strike changed direction, landing directly on its slender neck—its head flew off, and in its blood-red eyes was disbelief, seemingly unable to comprehend that it had died so easily here, in this obscure granary, in this village they had preyed upon for half a month.
No, she wouldn’t die so easily.
She was a vampire.
Even decapitation couldn’t kill her.
She was undying.
Pfft!
The young Holy Warrior pulled a wooden stake from her waist and casually plunged it into the heart of the Dwarves Vampire Derivative, which was nothing but a body now.
As if not reassured, she stomped on it hard, driving it deeply into the ground.
But that wasn’t all, several bottles of Holy Water were poured directly onto the remains.
The Dwarves Vampire Derivative, pinned to the ground by the stake, writhed like a fish out of water. A faint, agonized scream came from within, as tendrils of black mist drifted out along the stake, some even merging into it.
When the Holy Water was poured, the mist began to waft away more quickly.
Vampires are indeed difficult to kill.
But that doesn’t mean they cannot be truly destroyed.
When the undead essence of their being as Undead was completely extracted from their bodies, that was the moment of their demise.
Once the stake she had inserted into the Dwarves Vampire Derivative turned completely black, the young Holy Warrior pulled it out and fastened it back at her waist.
This was a good thing.
It was no longer a normal stake, but a Vampire Stake.
If used to pierce another vampire’s heart, it would speed up the killing process.
Ceylon was quick to slay vampires; her senior Darnell and her teacher August were even quicker, with just a single hammer blow.
They knocked down their targeted Dwarves Vampire Derivative to the ground and then stepped on his chest, stuffing the stake from their waist into his heart.
Their stakes weren’t just freshly whittled wood but carried with them, already imbued with the blood and souls of countless vampires, as Vampire Stakes.
On Darnell’s, the surface had grown dark as ink with streaks of silver.
August’s was even more formidable, with gold mixed into the silver lines—not from being gilded but from the Divine Laws imbued from slaying an abundance of vampires.
Leaving August’s aside for the moment, let’s talk about Darnell’s Silver-lined Vampire Stake. When it was plunged into a vampire’s chest, there was no need for Holy Water to be thrown as the young Holy Warrior did, to force the energy of the Dwarves Vampire Derivative to disperse.
The Silver-lined Vampire Stake, like a greedy vampire, actively tore and absorbed the vampire’s soul essence upon entering its chest, utterly destroying it within seconds.
Watching the five Holy Warriors kill vampires as if they were cutting grass,
The remaining Dwarves Vampire Derivatives were shocked.
They had come to hunt, not to become prey.
The surviving Dwarves Vampire Derivatives, while urging the remaining monster fodder toward the berserk Holy Warriors, rushed outside the granary, shrieking, "Master save us, there are Holy Warriors here, powerful Holy Warriors, this is a trap, a trap aimed at us."
"Holy Warriors? Haha... I’ve been longing to meet these ground-dwelling Holy Warriors. I’ve heard their blood is filled with the power of light, and I’m very curious. What if I drained their blood dry and turned them into Vampire Derivatives, what would that look like?"
A figure strolled in leisurely from outside the granary.
In his attire, he bore a striking resemblance to those other Dwarves Vampire Derivatives, sporting a finely-made Dwarves Elf style Leather Armor, but with two additional Dwarves Elf Daggers.
Compared to the very vampire-like Vampire Derivatives, aside from his crimson eyes, he looked more like an ordinary Dwarves Elf.
However, the aura he radiated was so vile, as though he were the embodiment of darkness itself, each breath he exhaled carried potent toxins, representative of darkness.
In his presence, the Dwarves Vampire Derivatives seemed so innocent, so harmless.
He was the real deal, a true Vampire, a Dwarves Elf Vampire.
