Chapter 265: Chapter 212 Energy Core_1
Especially given such a massive size and three-dimensional shape, once the enemy makes a large-scale invasion through flying means, defending becomes much more difficult—they can’t possibly defend everywhere.
Without tens of thousands of troops, it would be impossible to cover all grounds.
Once flying is banned, then the enemy can only attack from the ground.
"You always say my thinking is rigid, but now, hasn’t your thinking become rigid too? This is the Dragon Oak Mother Tree, why are you still thinking conventionally?" Lord Virginia ridiculed without any courtesy.
Women really are vindictive creatures.
Didn’t I just make a joke once? How did it become ’always’?
Gaven wisely chose not to argue with Lord Virginia, since it was purely uncomfortable. With a smile, he said, "This time, indeed, I was rigid. How about we go now? Allow me to broaden my horizons."
"Good." Lord Virginia took out the No-Fly Disk at this moment, signifying her intent. After all, it was a spoil of war she shared with Gaven, and to activate it, she needed to consult his opinion.
Lord Virginia dragged Gaven along to activate the teleportation and entered a completely sealed colossal space.
In front of them stood a castle-sized green light sphere. The life energy congregated here was so potent that the green light sphere became semi-liquid.
The green light sphere pulsed slowly and regularly as if it were alive.
With every expansion and contraction, a tremendous amount of life force was emitted and then reabsorbed.
Seeing this, Gaven had a thought and guessed, "Is this the energy core of the Dragon Oak Mother Tree?"
For the Dragon Oak Mother Tree to move, two things were absolutely necessary.
The driving consciousness already existed; it was the Dragon Oak Dream Realm that was currently under construction.
The other was the driving energy source, which was clearly the life force that pervaded the Dragon Oak Mother Tree.
For a massive body, mobilizing strength definitely required a core; it wouldn’t be the object in front of them, would it?
It seemed his understanding of the War Giant Tree of the Dragon Oak was still just scratching the surface. This enormous being still had much to be explored.
"This is the materialized Dragon Oak Dream Realm," Lord Virginia waved her hand, and the green light sphere rippled, displaying countless images on its surface, depicting the interior of the Dragon Oak Dream Realm. "But you are also right about the energy core. To mobilize the War Giant Tree of the Dragon Oak in the future, we need to rely on the energy pulses emitted from here."
"I understand now. The expansion of the Dragon Oak Dream Realm is the process of integrating the life energy of the Dragon Oak Mother Tree itself. Only by integrating it into a whole can we take full control of the War Giant Tree of the Dragon Oak, enabling it to truly move and be used by us," Gaven successfully connected the pieces of information he had.
"Exactly," Lord Virginia nodded. "So, the expansion of the Dragon Oak Dream Realm is of utmost importance to us."
While talking, Lord Virginia had already approached the green light sphere and extended her hand to pass the No-Fly Disk into it.
Green life energy enveloped the disk, pulling it into itself.
The entire green light sphere began to pulsate abnormally.
These pulsations generated a terrifying compressive force, and the No-Fly Disk, caught within it, started creaking, showing signs of being crushed.
Gaven’s heart instantly tightened, and he couldn’t help but ask, "Does this method really work? I hope the No-Fly capability hasn’t been activated yet, only for the No-Fly Disk to be consumed instead."
Lord Virginia spread her hands and said, "I don’t know much more about the War Giant Tree of the Dragon Oak than you do, so I’m also unclear about the result."
Gaven’s eyes immediately widened in disbelief, "You mean this is just an experiment?"
"Hmm," Lord Virginia nodded in confirmation.
"Why didn’t you say that earlier?"
"Even if I told you earlier, would you have given up on this experiment?"
Gaven considered seriously for a while and eventually shook his head, "No choice but to proceed, after all, the benefits would be immense if successful."
"That’s settled, then. I’ve already deciphered everything I need from the No-Fly Disk; even if it doesn’t work, we can still figure out ways to make more No-Fly Disks," Virginia gave Gaven a reassurance. "It’s just that the materials needed are rather precious, and the production process is somewhat complicated."
"You should’ve said that sooner," Gaven sighed in relief.
Come to think of it, Virginia’s cautiousness was not inferior to his own. She would not have lightly embarked on such a risky experiment without being completely prepared.
Whether it was a backup plan or the experiment itself, she must have thought it through repeatedly.
After all, she was an experienced Mage. She wouldn’t do something foolish, and Gaven’s previous worry was somewhat superfluous.
"It’s a success." Uncontainable joy was evident on the beautiful face of Virginia.
At her words, Gaven looked toward the green light sphere.
The crushing of the No-Fly Disk was inevitable as numerous cracks had already formed on it.
But through these cracks, copious amounts of green light flowed in and out.
The entering light was merely pure life energy.
But the light that emerged turned into numerous green runes.
Clearly, the process involved absorbing the Arrays from the No-Fly Disk and transforming them into something inherent.
Then, as the green light sphere pulsated, the green runes grew larger and were engraved onto the surrounding barren tree cavity walls.
With each green rune that was engraved, the Dragon Oak Mother Tree involuntarily quivered slightly.
Without asking, it was evident that the Dragon Oak Mother Tree itself was making fine adjustments.
The No-Fly Disk was completely ground down, and the green runes were also nearly fully engraved.
Looking at runes as large as two sheets of paper, Gaven’s heart couldn’t help but skip a beat, "Could this be the incantation for the No-Fly Spell?"
The No-Fly Spell belongs to unconventional spells, at least most mages wouldn’t use it.
The practicality of this spell is beyond doubt.
It is a bona fide divine art of aerial combat, and the consequences of being struck by this spell while high in the air need not be elaborated upon.
"More precisely, it is the operating incantation of the No-Fly Disk. Had I known earlier, I wouldn’t have spent so much time painstakingly reverse-engineering it. However, extracting the No-Fly Spell incantation from it shouldn’t be too difficult."
To reverse-engineer the manufacturing technique and the runes from a finished product is no easy feat.
It must take considerable time for Perception, speculation, and identification, especially without knowledge of the No-Fly Spell—it’s both time-consuming and mentally demanding.
And there is no guarantee of accuracy.
Who would have thought that the Dragon Oak Mother Tree would spontaneously reverse-engineer it for me.
"You’re being a little greedy with that thought. If the analysis wasn’t complete, you wouldn’t dare test it rashly, would you?" Gaven said, unable to hide his itch to try, "Shall we give it a try?"
"That..." Virginia was also somewhat tempted but ultimately shook her head and said, "No, a vast number of flying members of the Fae Race currently dwell atop the Dragon Oak Mother Tree. Activating it rashly could lead to serious consequences, especially since our control over the Dragon Oak Mother Tree is not yet absolute. What if it can be activated but not turned off?"
Once Gaven heard this, he immediately dismissed the thought and nodded, "My idea was rash. However, I do feel that the Dragon Oak Mother Tree’s ability to assimilate the capabilities of Magic Items has great potential for further exploration. If we were to give it a Fireball Magic Wand, would it be able to replicate the Fireball Technique as well?"
"This is simple." Lord Virginia directly took out a Fireball Magic Wand from his Dimensional Bag and placed it inside the verdant light sphere.
The verdant light sphere did indeed envelop the Fireball Magic Wand.
However, it simply floated there quietly, and the crushing and absorbing seen earlier did not occur.
"What’s going on?" Lord Virginia and Gaven exchanged glances.
Could the Dragon Oak Mother Tree be picky about its food?
Why is the reaction different now?
"Could it be because of the Magic Items? It can only absorb Magic Items, not Fireball Magic Wands?" Gaven speculated.
Virginia then reached into the Dimensional Bag again and took out a Magic Ring that had the gleaming runes of a Fireball Ring.
The verdant light embraced it, yet the reaction was the same as with the Fireball Magic Wand—no reaction, just floating silently.
"Could it be an issue of mismatched attributes?" Gaven offered another conjecture, "The energy of the Dragon Oak Mother Tree itself belongs to the Life Attribute. Having it cast the Fireball Technique seems a bit forced, while the No-Fly Spell doesn’t have such attribute restrictions. Perhaps spells from Druids and the like would be more suited?"
Lord Virginia immediately took out an entwined Magic Wand.
Yet, the Dragon Oak Mother Tree still remained unmoved.
This time, Gaven was out of ideas as well and sighed, "It seems we’ve oversimplified things. This matter requires further research."
Lord Virginia retrieved the items floating within the verdant light sphere and offered his guess, "In fact, the No-Fly Disk differs greatly from these Magic Items we tested. I think the reason might lie here."
"What’s the difference?"
"The No-Fly Disk itself is designed for large magic Constructions and serves as a driving core. The items we just took out are all meant for personal use. If we try using magic artifacts specifically made for Mage Towers or city defenses, might it work?"
Gaven slapped his thigh hard and said, "Right, the Dragon Oak Mother Tree might seem like an individual, but in reality, it isn’t; it’s a city, an above-ground aircraft carrier. It ought to consume defense constructions. Let me try with an automatic Magic Crossbow Cart or other large-scale defensive equipment."
"We have no choice but to proceed that way." The subsequent failed experiments dampened the joy of the No-Fly Disk’s success.
Mainly because they hadn’t tested it yet and didn’t know the actual power or whether it could meet their expectations.
What was once brimming with confidence now felt uncertain.
The slight adjustments to the appearance of the Dragon Oak Mother Tree somehow confirmed Lord Virginia’s speculation.
Just like a Mage Tower, many areas of energy flow had been altered to work in conjunction with the No-Fly Disk.
Thus, even if they were to merge city defense systems in the future, due caution was imperative.
Who knows whether it would still be possible to make reverse changes after being integrated by the Dragon Oak Mother Tree.
Their recent experiments had been somewhat haphazard.
In the following period, Lord Virginia spent a lot of time with the leaders of the Fae Race, discussing strategic retreats and Gaven’s farming proposal.
The consensus was unanimous.
They agreed on the strategic retreat plan and approved of Gaven’s farming proposal.
The reason was simple.
Even a fool could see that the Dragon Oak War Giant Tree was the future of the Spring Bud Forest.
It was not only a tool of war but also likely to become a unique mobile city.
Now if they didn’t seize the opportunity to move up and secure prime locations, would they wait until the area became incredibly crowded and then fight for living space?
Once the population became dense, the previous lifestyle dependent on gathering and hunting was obviously no longer viable.
Intensive and meticulous farming, making efficient use of every inch of space and soil, was inevitable.
How could those leaders not understand such a simple truth? Even the most stubborn among them, when faced with the pressure of survival, had to embrace change.
What they debated the most when gathered together was the positioning of their villages and towns after relocating to the Dragon Oak Mother Tree.
Different locations had varying light access and safety levels, so they naturally argued their cases passionately.
After attending a few important meetings, Gaven lost interest in the issues of territorial possession. Besides, he had other matters to deal with, so he avoided attending the meetings whenever possible.
