Chapter 264: Chapter 211 Tremor Bomb’s Bottleneck_1
All Attribute Points, no change.
Just two additional Special Abilities.
Absolute Defense (Special Ability): Damage Reduction 15/∞.
Earth Healing (Special Ability): As long as standing on the earth, receive rapid Heal 5.
The explanation is simple enough, but the implications it represents are not.
This level of Damage Reduction seems the same as the Combat Armor before the change, but in reality, it is not completely the same.
The meaning of ∞ is that, before exceeding 15 points, no attack can harm the Twilight Guardian, not even Magic.
The meaning of rapid Heal 5 is that five Life Force points are restored every round.
To combine the two, a Twilight Guardian standing on the ground is as tenacious as an indestructible cockroach.
No wonder Prince Elton was able to hold his own against Thornspike and the Twilight Guardian before; the two Special Abilities that the Twilight Guardian now possesses, I estimate Prince Elton had them after three breaths and even stronger.
"Lord, here’s a gift for you." The Twilight Guardian waved its claw and threw a circular Shield to Gaven.
This was a standard disc-shaped Shield, smooth on the outside, much like Captain America’s Shield from the Marvel comics.
To be precise, it was modeled after that Shield, at least in size.
The Twilight Guardian’s enlightenment was from Zhang You’s learned memories, which included a lot of personal additions.
The first thing Gaven did was let Anna help identify it, and its properties were simple, just one Special Ability Absolute Defense.
Wearing Combat Armor, and holding this Shield, Gaven is more of a warrior than a Warrior, quickly maxing out his defense.
"To simply use it like this would be a waste. Let me have it instead, and I’ll refine it for you," Lord Virginia, thrilled at the sight, intended to apply her knowledge on this unique material Shield.
"Sure." Gaven handed the Shield over without hesitation and added, "The best would be to endow it with the ability to return."
He was preparing for it to not only have the appearance of Captain America’s Shield but also to have certain capabilities, not just to serve as a shield but to also be used as a weapon when necessary.
"I’ll do my best." Lord Virginia did not make any guarantees.
"How do we deal with these corpses?" Gaven’s gaze fell on the most troublesome issue at hand.
So many corpses soaked in dark power definitely couldn’t be just left here.
But moving them out would be difficult in many ways, especially those of the Foul Giants; aside from Thornspike and the Twilight Guardian, others would find it difficult to move them.
"Leave it to me!" Lord Virginia immediately took on the task.
She took out a bunch of casting materials from her Dimensional Bag, and began to draw and write not far from the corpses.
Gaven raised an eyebrow and asked, "Are you planning to set up a Teleportation Array?"
"Yes!" Virginia nodded in response.
"Where are you planning to dump them?" Gaven couldn’t help asking, "These corpses, if not handled properly, could turn into Zombies. They can’t be discarded at random."
"The Positive Energy Plane." Virginia replied without lifting her head.
"Alright, I have no more concerns." Gaven gave Lord Virginia a thumbs up, with an expression that said ’you’re ruthless’.
Dumping a pile of corpses filled with dark energy into the Positive Energy Plane was far crueler than burning them. Once there, it wouldn’t take a second to purify them completely, leaving them merely as corpses.
With a solution at hand, the rest was easy, just continuously throwing corpses inside.
It is unknown if there are other creatures on the receiving end of the Teleportation Array. Either way, the scene must be spectacular.
After dealing with the aftermath, Gaven and Lord Virginia returned to the Dragon Oak Dragon Nest ahead of the others, who were making their way back slowly.
Both Gaven and Lord Virginia had a bunch of matters awaiting their attention.
Abandoning Spring Bud Fortress was just one future grand strategy, taking early preparations in case the Foul Giant Kingdom waged full-scale war; facing them head-on could lead to heavy losses, and only then would they consider such a choice.
It doesn’t mean that by doing nothing and withdrawing everything haphazardly from Spring Bud Fortress, abandoning the original defense line, would be their approach.
If they did that, it would have been incredibly foolish.
Lord Virginia was not only smart but very bright.
She intended to take full advantage of this grand strategic benefit, preparing a few surprises for the Foul Giants.
Those of the Fae Race were experts in setting various forest Traps. It is believed that the segment of Spring Bud Forest they abandon will be filled with all sorts of natural, unnatural, and Magic Traps.
The Fairies would use this to their advantage, engaging in the guerrilla tactics they are best at.
"This matter will require your full support," Lord Virginia said to Gaven.
"Whatever you need, just say it," Gaven responded, patting his chest.
Lord Virginia made a bold demand: "I need you to assign a hundred Gnoll Demolition Experts to me, and prepare ten thousand Tremor Bombs."
"How many?" Gaven swallowed hard, "Ten thousand? Are you planning to blast Spring Bud Fortress into the sky? Do you have any idea what the cost of making these Alchemical Bombs is? To be effective on the battlefield, at the very least, they need to be Strong Tremor Bombs. We’ve tried to minimize the production cost as much as possible, but it’s still at least two hundred sixty Gold Coins each.
With a daily production of less than a hundred, our demand for it is huge across various fields—iron ore mining, Dragon’s Nest construction, trade route expansion all rely on these bombs for demolition."
"The output is so low?" Lord Virginia couldn’t help but give a side-eye, "Such a practical thing should have more invested into it to increase production as much as possible. Is it a shortage of raw materials? If so, can I provide the raw materials and you just handle the processing?"
"It’s not just a matter of raw materials; the main issue is the workforce. Of course, if we have sufficient materials and work overtime, we can indeed increase the output, but only by a very limited amount. Being able to produce an additional twenty or thirty a day would be an impressive feat already," Gaven couldn’t help but vent to Lord Virginia about the situation with the Tremor Bombs.
Of course, he knew how practical the Tremor Bombs were.
From the moment he became involved with them, he gave the project considerable attention—even going so far as to personally enter the field to make improvements.
As soon as he had the financial means, he immediately built a specialized Tremor Bomb production factory with a dedicated team to supply the various alchemical materials needed.
However, the limitations on the speed of producing Tremor Bombs stemmed not only from the collection of alchemical materials but also from the number and production rate of Gnoll Alchemists.
He had thought about training more Gnoll Alchemists, but the issue is that this profession is one of the most bizarre among the Gnolls—second to none.
Because what the profession requires is not the Gnolls’ greatest attribute, Charisma, but rather the damn Perception attribute.
If it were about finding Gnolls with high intelligence, Gaven would somehow manage to round them up.
But high Perception in Gnolls? That’s asking the impossible.
To this day, in the entire Tremor Bomb production factory, there are only eight Gnoll Alchemists, with the highest among them at Professional Level five, having 15 Perception points. This was after gaining two points from Dragonization; before that, it was a miserable 13 points. Even so, that Perception was already exceptional among the Gnolls.
And the standard for producing Tremor Bombs required at least 11 Perception points, which meant that most Dragonized Gnolls also didn’t meet the criteria.
If it weren’t for Zack and Susie being too valuable for their abilities for Gaven, he would have wanted them to change their profession to Gnoll Alchemists as well.
Gaven had also considered starting from scratch with another race since high Perception is abundant within the Fae Race, easily found with over fifteen points.
But assembling Tremor Bombs was an extension of the Gnolls’ own racial abilities.
He’d conducted specific experiments, and neither he nor Anna, despite using the methods taught by the Gnolls, could concoct even the lowest version of a Tremor Bomb. Not even a basic misfire occurred—without the magic force driven by the Gnolls themselves, those alchemical materials wouldn’t undergo any chemical reaction whatsoever.
Gaven had considered producing black gunpowder, but before reaching a certain standard, the power simply couldn’t compare to that of tremor bombs.
Moreover, tremor bombs were a type of magical bomb, which had a natural affinity with the Gnolls, something Gaven had witnessed himself with the way Zack buried them.
Later, he learned that Zack wasn’t using a stone-shaping spell but the innate properties of the tremor bombs themselves; many specially trained Gnoll demolition experts could do the same.
The most important point was that black gunpowder was a double-edged sword; once it was made, anyone could use it.
Unlike tremor bombs, which were exclusive to Gnolls -- naturally anti-theft.
Instead of spending effort there, it was better to continue to explore the potential of tremor bombs with the Gnolls.
Gaven placed his hope in the newly born Gnolls — those hatched in the Dragon Oak Dragon Nest.
First, the life energy permeating the Dragon Oak Dragon Nest was extremely beneficial for them.
Second, given that this was the Fairy Wilderness, if they could pick up even a hint of its essence, gaining even a sliver of the Fey Race’s true teachings in perception, it would be enough for them, enough for Gaven to benefit from.
After listening to Gaven’s explanation, Lord Virginia was a bit stunned; this was the first time she had heard of a profession based on one’s own greatest weakness.
She could only ask what came second best, "How many tremor bombs can you spare on your side?"
"I should have about a thousand in stock, which I can all allocate to you. Meanwhile, I’ll have someone draw up a list of needs; you can try to have your people collect them. Although our production speed is slow now, it doesn’t mean it will remain slow in the future. After all, the number of Gnolls on my side is constantly growing. The larger the base, the greater the possibility of selecting outliers," Gaven calculated in his mind.
"The construction of the Dragon Oak Dragon Nest and the laying of commercial roads can be put off for now; we can reduce their usage. Squeezing out fifty bombs a day shouldn’t be too much pressure," Gaven said.
"Fifty a day it is then, all related costs will be offset with food and fruit." Virginia stretched out her hand, pulling a white, large disk from her dimensional bag, "There’s another matter I need to discuss with you. I plan to use this no-fly disk on the Dragon Oak Mother Tree, to construct a no-fly zone."
This no-fly disk was one of the spoils from a previous annihilation of a Jackalwere war band known as the Black Reaper.
It was this very item that almost led to the death of the young Red Dragon, Roderick.
Due to this magic item’s unique attributes, specifically targeting flight, Virginia hadn’t found a use for it recently and had been keeping it.
"If the Dragon Oak Mother Tree can make use of it, nothing could be better, but considering the size of the mother tree, is it sufficient as protection on its own?" Gaven had seen the effect of the no-fly disk himself; its coverage radius maxed out at a hundred meters, which hardly hampered aerial bombardment by the Erde.
I’ve studied this magic item thoroughly; it shouldn’t be used this way. It should be one of the core devices of a city’s defense tower or a mage tower. Once activated, it can form a no-fly zone that encompasses an entire city. I’ve noticed there are numerous small cuts and ax marks on it, probably from when those Jackalweres plundered a city or mage tower and forcibly removed it from there," Lord Virginia clearly had come prepared.
Upon hearing this, Gaven perked up; the implications were quite different if that were the case, "So you’re suggesting we build a no-fly tower or a mage tower on the Dragon Oak Mother Tree?"
The Dragon Oak Mother Tree’s greatest fear was being breached from the inside.
