Chapter 1027: Chapter 609 Shadow Duel Arena
Crack! Crack! Crack!
Anything, when it holds sufficient weight and volume, displays extraordinary lethality, and Skeletal Bombs were no exception.
Every monster unfortunate enough to be at the impact point, whether it was Goblins, Hobgoblins, or even massive Trolls, without exception, were hammered to the ground instantly. Even if they didn’t turn into a puddle of gore on the spot, they were flattened into meat patties, most dying instantly.
And that wasn’t all. These Skeletal Cannonballs were not solid; they contained highly compressed Negative Energy. When subjected to severe impact, this Negative Energy would lose its stability and explode violently, sweeping up the bone fragments within a ten-meter radius and decimating all living creatures.
Even bones, under powerful kinetic energy, turned into lethal weapons, easily tearing open their skin and flesh and deeply embedding into their bodies. Accompanying this was the erosion of Negative Energy, causing visibly rapid necrosis at the wounds, which spread outward.
If it were just a limb, those quick enough to sever it might live.
But if the injured area was the torso, neck, or head, they were likely doomed. The Negative Energy would directly damage their vital organs.
For flesh and blood, highly concentrated Negative Energy was like the most potent poison, very fast-acting. Unless it was the Undead, composed purely of Negative Energy, there were no healing properties, only lethality.
The range damage of a Skeletal Cannonball, both in power and coverage area, far surpassed that of the Fireball Technique cast by a Transcendent Archmage.
What did a ten-meter radius mean?
An entire area of three hundred and fourteen square meters. Even if individuals were spaced two to three meters apart, it could fit around a hundred people, not to mention within a closely packed military formation.
The three hundred meters range of the Skeleton Cannons far exceeded most other lethal spells (The casting range of Fireball is generally between one hundred fifty to two hundred meters, increasing with the caster’s level, with a Fireball of a Legendary Spell reaching up to four hundred meters). Yet, these monsters had not yet consciously spread out for a dispersed attack.
Of course, all theoretical values of effective casting distance, damage radius, and range, like the effective range of firearms, depended on actual conditions faced during usage.
In sparsely populated areas, the damage radius of a Skeletal Cannonball was definitely more than ten meters. However, in densely crowded conditions, an average radius of five to six meters was quite impressive.
The monsters at the forefront acted as meat shields for those in the outer ring, helping them block most of the splatter damage, including the subsequent spread of Negative Energy.
Even so, a single Skeleton Bomb harvests at least a dozen, and at most dozens, of monsters.
More cruelly, many bodies severely eroded by Negative Energy staggered to their feet, not revived, but transformed into Zombies on the spot, launching mindless attacks against nearby allies and causing chaos within the Monster Army.
Moreover, the firing rate of these Skeleton Cannons was astoundingly quick, averaging two shots per round, which was twice as fast as described by their Special Ability.
This additional shot was a wonderful chemical reaction resulting from their combination with Dark Treants.
These Dark Treants possessed the ability to root in the Shadows and draw Negative Energy for regeneration. What limited the regeneration of Skeleton Cannonballs was the speed of Negative Energy absorption. Initially requiring transfers from Weizemay Manor, now assisted by the Dark Treants.
This increase in firing speed only occurred when the Dark Treants were rooted. If the Dark Treants moved while attacking, the Skeleton Cannon would revert to one shot per round.
With eighteen Skeleton Cannons, the destructive power displayed was more than twice that of nearly two hundred Cart Heavy Crossbow Vehicles.
For the Monster Army, the attacks from Cart Heavy Crossbow Vehicles were like knife wounds, easily healed, barely registering as a loss.
The Skeleton Cannon, though, was a literal sledgehammer, flattening the area. Even if covered again by monsters from behind, the area became much more sparse, akin to a balding scalp with uneven coverage.
And this was just ranged attack, not even considering mid-to-close range attacks.
Just as the Monster Army collided with the side-car formation, countless red points of light emerged from behind the vehicles, growing larger as they ascend.
Fireball Technique!
The battlefield’s equivalent of a heavy mortar.
Nothing surprising here; even in conflicts involving hundreds of people, their presence was noted. Not to mention a battlefield engaging thousands, it would be unusual if the skies and earth weren’t ignited by Fireball Technique.
However, the number of Fireball Techniques rising from the Conqueror Army was excessively numerous and dense.
Packed tightly, like arrows, they obscured the entire sky. There were at least three hundred if not five hundred.
They covered the entire area up to one hundred meters in front of the Pioneer Army of the Founders’ position, transforming it into a fiery purgatory with nowhere to hide. The wisest choice was to lie flat on the ground, endure the impact of a Fireball, and bear its fiery baptism.
Otherwise, the damage they’d sustain would likely come from two or three Fireballs. The shockwaves from the explosions could potentially drag them into the coverage areas of other Fireballs.
