Chapter 1026: Chapter 608: Show Weakness to the Enemy_3
Ruoshui, if you feel that staining your hands would be beneath you, you may leave the task to me. All you need to do is watch, no need for a direct answer. Just blink three times in succession..."
"What spell is that?" Yalusai’s cry of alarm interrupted Simmon’s persuasion.
Simmon hurriedly looked down, only to see that the spot where the Lizard Queen had stood was now shrouded in a cloud of black fog. Not only had the Lizard Queen vanished, but the Lizardfolk and Mad Frogmen around her were also gone, along with that strange Treant.
Above that patch of black fog, Simmon could distinctly feel the power of the undead—an ability on the level of the Laws of Undeath.
The Lizard Queen and her company were likely not within the black fog but had been dragged into a temporary Dimensional Space. Simmon had missed the perfect window of opportunity; now, even if he wanted to take action, he couldn’t find the enemy.
By the time both sides reappeared, there was an eighty percent chance that the Lizard Queen would be reduced to a corpse.
It wasn’t that Simmon had a deep understanding of Gaven’s strength; rather, it was a basic logical deduction. Such ability was very similar to the Divine Nature Domain, that special ability attainable only by those with Divine Nature.
In such a domain, all the Laws would greatly favor the one who initiated it, significantly enhancing their strength.
Particularly in this isolated dueling domain, it indicated that the opponent was extremely confident in their own strength, possessing sufficient trump cards and assurance to take down the adversary.
To turn the tide in such a desperate situation would require overwhelming strength, and Simmon wasn’t optimistic about the Lizard Queen’s chances. Many of her abilities were used to enhance the Lizardfolk Army, which meant that her capacity to strengthen her own combat prowess would be reduced. In combat, she often relied on her vast body to fight ruthlessly, using her terrifying strength and constitution to dominate ordinary enemies. However, the problem was that she now faced an adversary whose body type was not inferior to her own and who wielded an Undead Artifact—one does not easily gain the upper hand under such circumstances.
Simmon’s prior worries were not unfounded. The Lizard Queen wasn’t dead yet, but merely being separated from her army had already severely impacted the Lizardfolk Army.
Without her Special Ability to sustain it, the Lizardfolk alone couldn’t maintain the towering waves, the height of which was visibly plummeting. In the blink of an eye, it had dropped to less than six or seven meters.
The surface of the Bridge of Human God was now a good six or seven meters above the water, and even for the proficient jumpers, the Mad Frogmen, there was no way they could leap onto the Bridge of Human God, let alone the Lizardfolk.
The Lizardfolk Army was split into two parts. The ones in the water could only provide limited remote support through Throwing Spears, and they carried no more than ten spears at most, not having any means of resupply after use.
Those left on the bridge were utterly dumbfounded, trapped in a dilemma of whether to advance or retreat.
To attack meant they lacked the advantage in numbers, and with no follow-up troops, charging forward was sheer suicide.
To retreat would be courting disaster with the Lizard Queen’s ferocious temper. If she were to emerge from the black fog and find that the army she had finally sent onto the bridge had all jumped back into the river, even if they ultimately won the war, they would pay dearly.
Another reason they hadn’t broken down on the spot was the intense cries of battle that came from the west side of the Bridge of Human God. From the bridge, one could clearly see countless monsters surging towards this place along the west bank of the Wild Border River, covering the entire bank like endless swarms of ants.
Without any significant organization, the sheer karma of numbers alone would cover their deficiencies in command and organization—this was the Monster Army’s commonly used strategy of overwhelming numbers.
The Monster Army from the Dark Castle had arrived.
Facing the endless tide of monsters, not even the Conqueror Army could afford the slightest carelessness. The Conquerors along the western side of the Bridge of Human God immediately redirected their main offensive, particularly the Cart Heavy Crossbow Vehicles mounted on the Tower War Chariots, which launched indiscriminate attacks on the Monster Army from half the river’s distance.
When facing the tactic of swarming numbers, the full force of these Heavy Crossbow Vehicles was especially brutal. Packed together, the monsters had hardly any room to dodge. Unless the shooters made a severe mistake on their side, landing amongst the crowd would inflict casualties not just on one or two but skewer rows of them like candied hawthorns on a stick.
Given the density of the monsters, it was hard for the Ballista Operators to miss their shots. Every time the mighty twang of the bowstrings trembled, it was bound to create a bloody path through the Monster Army.
But in the next instant, this bloody path would be overwhelmed and filled by the surging monsters behind.
Nearly two hundred Cart Heavy Crossbow Vehicles firing simultaneously seemed incredibly impressive, reaping two to three times that number in lives with each volley.
Yet, in an army of monsters that numbered in the tens of thousands, it was like splashes on a lake surface—creating waves and ripples that were quickly smoothed over and disappeared.
"Skeleton Cannon, fire!"
The Conqueror Army pulled a new trick: eighteen Dark Treants entered their rooted stance, embedding not into the Bridge of Human God but into the semi-solid Shadow Plane. Using their colossal Hand Cannons (Skeleton Cannons adapted with dual grips) as crutches, they unleashed the embedded Special Ability.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Accompanied by dull roars, cannonballs the size of large kegs soared out in parabolas, smashing directly into the Monster Army.
Just like the Heavy Crossbow Vehicles, there was no need to aim. The monsters were too crowded; simply firing in the general direction sufficed.
