Chapter 1009: Chapter 603: The Battle Begins

Only after Gaven and Katherine were left alone in the tent did Gaven lower his voice and ask, "Lady, tell me the truth. Is Her Highness at the crucial moment, ready to formally attain godhood?"

A demigod can only be called a Quasi-god.

She had already obtained the Divine Nature Spark and a divine position, but had not yet ignited the Divine Fire or condensed her own godhood; naturally, she did not possess enough power to raise her own God Kingdom. This created a significant deficiency in her ability to respond to the prayers of her followers and collect their faith.

Most importantly, she lacked a place to settle those devout followers who had died—a normal process involving messengers leading the souls from the City of Judgment back to the God Kingdom, where they are transformed into petitioners or Heroic Spirits, attendants of the gods, depending on the deceased’s strength and devotion in life.

"Yes," Katherine nodded solemnly, "for this matter, we have to thank Lord. It was your tireless assistance that allowed her influence to spread beyond Thacel and towards the entire continent so quickly."

"It was my duty," Gaven smiled, "May I know how I can further assist you in this matter, Lady?"

"All you need to do is secure victory in this war; that would be the best help for the Lady," Katherine replied.

"Alright, I understand what to do now," Gaven did not continue to inquire further.

This is a common characteristic of the War God Faction; achieving ultimate victory is the best offering, and the Goddess of Strategy is no exception, for it signifies the success of planning and scheming.

If one does not succeed, no matter how grand one’s plans, they mean nothing.

...

"Quarrying? The Conqueror Army is quarrying on a large scale? They plan to build a bridge across the Wild Border River? Hahaha... They must be out of options, thinking of building a bridge here, but they’ll have to ask if we agree, hahaha... I’ll see their corpses pile up throughout the entire Wild Border River, all their wealth will be ours," the Lizard Queen let out an excited growl, seemingly seeing countless riches flowing towards her.

While the Conqueror Army was planning for this battle, the Lizard Court’s think tank was also busy, drawing up a detailed battle plan based on their own strengths and the surrounding geographical situation.

As the Conqueror Army had predicted, the plan was to rely on the Wild Border River for sniping; this was not only a disadvantage for the Conqueror Army but also the strength of the Lizard Army. They had no other choice; they never prepared for any conspiracies but instead laid out an open scheme, just waiting to see how the Conqueror Army intended to break the deadlock.

After much calculation, the enemy resorted to the crudest method.

"However, they have chosen to build the bridge closer to the Far Sea Marsh, away from us. This prevents us from attacking by surprise from the side of Tun Marsh. We must shift our main force into the mid-upper section of the Wild Border River to be able to adapt flexibly," suggested the Spirit Soul Naga, a court minister of the Lizard Court.

"This shows that they regard us, the Lizard Court, more highly than the Far Sea Marsh, trying to lengthen our march as much as possible to slow our entry into this battle," the Lizard Queen was not displeased at being specifically targeted; on the contrary, she was delighted. "But those three Ghost Witches of the Far Sea Marsh are not so easy to deal with. Compared to the fighting strength of an army, they are most adept at conspiracies. Have there been any movements on their end?"

"So far, they have gathered an army of nearly ten thousand Jackalweres and an equally large army of marsh creatures; no other movements," replied the Spirit Soul Naga. After answering, a look of confusion appeared first on the humanoid-snake face, "This is quite different from their usual style. What they liked least in the past was direct military confrontation."

The Lizard Queen dismissively said, "It’s not that they didn’t like confronting armies, but that they didn’t have an army strong enough to withstand it, so they had to rely on conspiracies to compensate. Now they have established contact with the old Jackalwere from the Abyss and can convert large numbers of Jackalweres and Abyssal Jackalweres, thinking they are strong. Thus, their mode of operation has naturally changed. But this way, they don’t pose much of a threat to us; those Jackalweres are all landlubbers, and once in the water, they won’t withstand the slaughter from our two combat regiments."

"That’s true," the Spirit Soul Naga nodded involuntarily, "With this, we can consider ourselves invulnerable in this battle."

The Lizard Court had previously been most worried not about the numerous Conqueror Army, nor the treacherous Dark Castle, but the Legendary Ghost Witch Gathering, another marsh power. The former two possessed purely ground forces; even if they couldn’t win, they could retreat into the water and back to Tun Marsh, leaving the Lizard Court unbothered.

The latter had the capability to fight their way in, and the relationship between the two parties had always been tense. Not only did the Lizard Queen covet the Far Sea Marsh, but those witches also continuously tried to extend their demonic claws into Tun Marsh to control everything here.

"What about Dark Castle?" inquired the Lizard Queen.

Though the three parties had the same objective, due to their mutual suspicion, they couldn’t turn the enemy of their enemy into their friend and truly join forces. On the contrary, they had to guard against each other.

After the annihilation of the Conqueror Army, if convenient, the other parties would not mind eliminating one or both to achieve the goal of enjoying everything alone—controlling the Goblin Margins was a common goal for the three powers. The Komeer Kingdom was also a contender, except they chose to stand by and not act against the Conqueror Army.
