Chapter 328: Chapter 319: Roast Goose Egg
After chatting for another half hour, Han Qiwu worried that Tang Qingying might get hungry on the way later and suggested, "While your friend isn’t here yet, why don’t I make you a goose egg roll to snack on?"
"Goose egg roll? Sure, I want to see it too." Tang Qingying perked up instantly at the mention of food.
She had eaten a very full lunch, so having another full meal now was out of the question.
But if it was just a snack, that wouldn’t be a problem.
Girls always seem to have many, many different stomachs.
One for milk tea, one for hotpot, one for rabbit heads, one for grilled fish...
In the kitchen, Han Qiwu cracked the large goose egg and whisked it, mixing in wild green onion and a pinch of fine salt. He then heated the pan, carefully scooped two spoonfuls of egg mixture onto it, and waited until it partially solidified before gently rolling it into a small roll and pushing it aside.
He scooped another two spoonfuls into the pan, waited until it partially solidified, then placed the previous egg roll on top and continued rolling along the same pattern.
After repeating this process a few times, a long goose egg roll was complete.
Slice it, plate it, and done.
"Wow, that’s amazing—it kind of looks like tamagoyaki." Tang Qingying clapped enthusiastically.
Han Qiwu nodded, "That’s right, now give it a try."
Tang Qingying picked up a small piece and slowly bit into it, her face lighting up instantly.
The soft and tender texture paired with the fragrant aroma of goose egg.
Perfection.
While "Mr. Tang" was eating, Han Qiwu went outside and packed twenty strawberries, raspberry jam, pickled bamboo shoots, dried bamboo shoots, buffalo milk, purple vetch honey, rapeseed honey, and white-shelled eggs inside the trunk.
Most of these were ready-to-eat, so there was no need to think much about preparation.
The only exception, dried bamboo shoots, couldn’t be eaten directly. Han Qiwu made it a point to explain: "Mr. Tang, these dried bamboo shoots are clean. When you’re out eating spicy hotpot or dry stir-fry, just bring them along and ask the boss to cook them in with the dish."
Tang Qingying, still nibbling on the goose egg roll, didn’t say anything but nodded obediently, already deciding which restaurant she’d take the bamboo shoots to.
Once Han Qiwu was finished packing, she handed him the plate and chopsticks, saying, "If you don’t eat soon, I’ll finish it all! You have to try some too."
"Alright." Han Qiwu smiled, walked over, and took the plate to eat. After a few bites, he glanced at the back of the yard where the disguised hot spring lay hidden. Thinking for a moment, he suggested, "Mr. Tang, sometimes hot spring water seeps up in the back of this yard. I suspect there might be a spring underneath. Next time, I’ll get some friends to come fix it up—want to come soak in the hot spring then?"
"A hot spring? And it’s so close to your yard? You should monitor the soil conditions; don’t damage the sample. If necessary, I can help you apply for a new location," Tang Qingying said, slightly anxious.
Han Qiwu chuckled, "I’ll keep an eye on it. Judging by the flow, it hasn’t reached my area yet. Otherwise, wild grass wouldn’t grow here so abundantly."
Tang Qingying nodded, "True, but if there really is one, that’d be amazing. I really like soaking in hot springs. The trouble with going out is the inconvenience. If you have one here, that’d be perfect."
"Alright, I’ll let you know by then." Han Qiwu smiled while internally debating whether he should build one or two pools.
While he was lost in thought, Tang Qingying sneaked off to the car and retrieved a vintage wooden box from the passenger seat.
The box itself exuded an elegant charm. It was about the size of a pencil box, its entire surface a reddish-brown hue with densely packed cloud patterns on the sides. However, the top was clean and plain, displaying only natural wood grain that felt slightly out of place.
"This box is for you, but you can’t open it until I’ve left, alright?" Tang Qingying set the box on the table and carefully reminded him.
Han Qiwu was curious; he could already sense a faint white glow emanating from the box. But until it was opened, he couldn’t see its properties.
"Is this my new stationery box? It’s so pretty." Han Qiwu teased.
Tang Qingying snorted, glanced at her phone, and waved, "Alright, my friend’s here. I had a great time today. Thanks! You’ve been working hard all day—get some rest early."
"Drive safe." Han Qiwu waved as he watched the car gradually pull away.
"Phew, still didn’t have the guts to say it. Is Brother Jing giving me fake liquor? I can’t even get drunk, so how am I supposed to say it!" Han Qiwu murmured helplessly. He’d begun to confront his own feelings but still found it hard to express them out loud.
Oh well, let’s check out the stationary box.
Hopefully, it actually contains stationery.
Walking up to the box, Han Qiwu pressed down on its plain surface and lifted the top.
"Hmm?"
It didn’t move.
To be precise, it didn’t budge at all.
"Is there a lock?" Han Qiwu examined it from all angles but didn’t find anything resembling a keyhole.
Fortunately, Tang Qingying sent a text message at this point: "I’m on the national highway now. You can open the box. Press firmly on the side when you do."
"Got it." Han Qiwu replied and turned back to press his hand against the box’s side, pushing firmly.
"Shh."
The box’s plain panel rotated clockwise beneath his applied force.
In its place appeared a small jade rabbit, made of white jade.
The rabbit was roughly the size of an adult’s palm, its entire body a creamy white, red eyes vivid and lifelike, quietly resting atop the box.
Additionally, the rabbit stood on a platform of scattered cloud patterns, which matched the box’s side designs, completing the harmony and eliminating its previous incongruity.
[Jade Rabbit Box]
[Purpose: Decoration]
[Special Effect - Longevity: Extends the lifespan of all animals in the territory by 30%]
[Special Effect - Rabbit King: Doubles the growth rate and production of all rabbits in the territory]
[Rabbit Affinity +5]
[Effect activates once placed in the bedroom]
[Note: You can now purchase rabbits from the farm.]
"Wow, this little jade rabbit isn’t cheap." Han Qiwu examined it closely, amazed. Though he didn’t know much about jade, judging by its texture alone, it seemed to rival the high-value mutton-fat jade often displayed on appraisal shows. Coupled with the two rubies and the box’s vintage charm...
Mr. Tang really brought a substantial gift this time.
Han Qiwu felt slightly embarrassed—trading so many food items for something this valuable.
Moreover, the Jade Rabbit Box’s attributes were unique. The longevity effect extended the lifespan of all animals, while Rabbit King greatly boosted rabbit farming profitability.
"Not to mention, rabbit wool and rabbit meat yield great returns." Han Qiwu resolved to visit the farm tomorrow to check the rabbit prices and requirements for building a rabbit pen.
As for Mr. Tang’s gift, he would have to wait until her next visit to properly repay her hospitality.
Han Qiwu placed the Jade Rabbit Box on his desk in the bedroom.
[Jade Rabbit Box activated]
As soon as it was placed, a milky-white glow radiated from the rabbit, sweeping through the entire farm and splitting into countless strands that fused into the animals.
The longevity effect successfully triggered.
Han Qiwu pulled out his phone and, thoughtful for a moment, decided to call Mr. Tang to ask about her journey and express his gratitude.
He wasn’t sure how to express anything else yet.
Mr. Tang had anticipated Han Qiwu’s reaction and reminded him not to dwell on it too much. She assured him that the box was just a decorative item—thinking too much would only create unnecessary stress.
Finally, she said, "If you really feel bad, then work on perfecting your cooking and make me something delicious next time I visit! I want something sweet!"
"No problem." Han Qiwu smiled.
