Chapter 578: Chapter 579 Who Knows If He Likes Men or Women_1 Chapter 578: Chapter 579 Who Knows If He Likes Men or Women_1 “Who says it isn’t! In the entire Daqian Dynasty, it’s only Mei Garden that elevates the status of an actor this high. Who in Qinghua City would dare look down upon them now?”

“What do you know? If the status isn’t raised, how can they make big money? Is an ordinary actor on the same level as one whose worth is high? Speaking of which, we ordinary folks can’t make big money. The master of Mei Garden, now, that’s someone truly remarkable.”

“It’s just a pity that Mei Garden is going on a tour, so we’ll probably miss their performance for a good while.”

“Just be content, will you? There’s only one Mei Garden in the whole Daqian Dynasty, in Qinghua City. Do any other places even have that?”

“That’s true.”

The crowd’s variety of chattering discussions all entered Muniang’s ears, but she merely smiled. The reason she had raised the status of actors to make money was indeed one of her motives. It was rare for outsiders to see so clearly, and Muniang was curious about who it was. She lifted the curtain to look, but unfortunately, the crowd was so thick she couldn’t make out who had spoken.

Muniang then let go of the idea and snuggled into Yu Ze’s arms to sleep soundly.

The journey of more than ten days had left everyone somewhat exhausted. Before the caravan even entered the city, Muniang had sent a servant ahead on horseback to book an entire inn. Once everyone arrived in the city, they planned to rest for a day before doing anything else.

“Zhong Yulang, remember to check around in the city. Contact the local Magistrate and get the paperwork, then rent a venue. Have people set it up with all the props and costumes. I’ll go look at suitable manors early tomorrow morning and negotiate for us to stay there; but for these few days, we’ll stay at the inn. Make sure everything’s arranged, and don’t rush. Our stay here might not be short.”

“Not in a hurry? Then what’s the rush for you to get here?” Zhong Yulang asked, widening his eyes.

“I just wanted to enjoy the scenery of Pingyue City a bit earlier, that’s all. Now go on, get busy,” she replied.

Zhong Yulang didn’t retort this time. He was no fool. Qiao Muniang was never one to act without reason. Her eagerness to come ahead suggested there was another motive, which she simply couldn’t be bothered to explain.

The shopkeeper of the inn had personally come out to greet them, as Muniang had paid quite a sum to book the entire place. His eyes gleamed with joy, “Ah, our honored guests have finally arrived. I’ve been waiting quite a while.”

Seeing Shen Dong and the others busy moving luggage, he hurriedly intervened, “Please rest assured, guests, let our inn’s servants help with moving. It’s tiring work, and it wouldn’t do to dirty your fine clothes!”

Shen Dong laughed, “Don’t worry, despite how delicate we look, we have plenty of strength!”

With that, he carried a suitcase inside.

The shopkeeper no longer said anything, realizing who the real master amongst the crowd was. He immediately went to Muniang and Yu Ze, “Greetings my lord and Lady, we have prepared top-notch rooms already. Please, my lord and Lady, come this way.”

Muniang smiled, “The people I have brought with me are not servants. Shopkeeper, ensure they are well taken care of, and don’t let my generous payment go to waste.”

The smile on the shopkeeper’s face stiffened a bit, and he waved his hand, ordering the inn’s servants to help with the luggage.

“Let’s go inside; you must be tired after all these days of travel,” Yu Ze said.

“It’s nothing. I slept very well. I can sleep anywhere. Do you think I’m someone so fragile? You go check the rooms first, I will come later,” she said, and then she walked over to Chen Yuhua’s carriage.

Yu Ze knew Muniang probably had something to discuss with Chen Yuhua, so he went inside.

Chen Yuhua had just gotten down from the carriage, with her maid Cui Cui barely supporting her frail figure, when Muniang frowned, “How come you have become so weak? These few days in the carriage shouldn’t have taken such a toll on you.”

Cui Cui was about to speak but was stopped by Chen Yuhua, who simply said, “Forgive me for making you laugh, Lady. I’ve always been frail since I was young.”

Muniang could hardly fail to notice the small gesture, yet she merely accompanied Chen Yuhua into the room.

But as soon as Cui Cui came out to pour tea, she seized the opportunity to question her, “What exactly is wrong with your lady?”

Cui Cui was chosen by Muniang to take care of Chen Yuhua and naturally understood Muniang’s temperament. There was no point in hiding anything anymore, and in fact, she had been wanting to speak up.

“Lady, Miss Chen is actually suffering from an ailment of the heart. She had not been feeling well even before we set out, unable to eat and unable to sleep well, her entire being felt weak and untethered,” Cui Cui said with heartfelt sympathy.

Muniang frowned, “An ailment of the heart? Wasn’t she fine before? Could it be because of Zhong Yulang?”

Cui Cui was startled, “How did you know, Lady?”

“What happened?”

“I’m not quite sure myself, but it all started after the Miss went out with Young Master Zhong; she came back in this state, as if her soul had left her. I guess Young Master Zhong must’ve said something.”

Muniang’s heart skipped a beat—could it be that he had confessed his feelings and been rejected? Zhong Yulang was quite picky, but then again, it seemed only normal; she hadn’t even figured out his sexual orientation yet!

“Your lady hasn’t eaten properly for half a month and you’re only telling me now?”

Cui Cui hung her head, “I know I was wrong.”

“Go to the kitchen and prepare some of Miss Chen’s favorite dishes to bring up,” Muniang ordered, thinking to herself that if this went on any longer, her life might be at risk, to say nothing of performing on stage.

“The Miss won’t touch the food. It took much convincing and cajoling from me to get her to eat even just a bite or two.”

Muniang glared at her, “I will deliver it personally!”

“Yes, I will see to it right away.”

When Muniang entered with the food, Chen Yuhua was still secretly wiping away tears. Seeing Muniang enter, she began to fuss and scramble to wipe her face.

“I’ve already seen it all, wiping it off is useless. Come and eat.”

Chen Yuhua looked at Muniang with embarrassment and annoyance, “Why did you come? I’m not hungry right now.”

“You’re practically a skeleton and still not hungry? Is it worth neglecting your health over a man like this?”

Chen Yuhua’s face turned red, “Who says it’s because of him!”

“Oh, which ‘him’ then?” challenged Muniang.

Chen Yuhua covered her face, “Lady, you’re teasing me again!”

“Enough already. It’s just a man, isn’t it? If this one is gone, just find another! Not eating won’t make him like you, and when you look unattractive as a bag of bones, he’ll like you even less. How are you going to sustain yourself on stage? Don’t forget, you’re the lead in the upcoming play. Do you want to kill yourself, or do you want to kill me?” Muniang said with deep concern.

Muniang paused before continuing, “Besides, you still don’t know whether he prefers men or women. If he likes men, all your efforts would be in vain, wouldn’t they?”
