Chapter 329 - 329 330 The Stubborn Suffer_1
Chapter 329: Chapter 330: The Stubborn Suffer_1 Chapter 329: Chapter 330: The Stubborn Suffer_1 Muniang knew that Nangong Qian had no strength left at this moment, either, with an arrow stuck in his chest and dragging a full-grown person in the rapid river for almost half a day. It was a miracle he hadn’t died, which made Muniang all the more brazen.
“What are you going to do about my glaring? Let me tell you, sparing your life now is already my kindness. Otherwise, I can turn you into a sieve right now, believe it or not?” Muniang huffed coldly.
In his heart, Nangong Qian cursed: Despicable! Who was it that rescued her just now? This cold and selfish woman!
Muniang glared back unwillingly: Shameless! Who was it that pushed her down!?
Nangong Qian was tired, too. After glaring for a while, he truly had no energy left and only managed to say, “Pull the arrow out, I have no strength.”
Muniang gave him a sideways glance: “First you tell me who you really are. Why did you want to harm me, does it have something to do with Yu Ze?”
Nangong Qian’s expression was indifferent: “Do you think I am in any condition to be threatened by you right now?”
“What do you mean? If you don’t start talking, I’ll just kill you outright. Don’t think I won’t dare!” Muniang said fiercely.
Nangong Qian tugged at the corner of his mouth: “You don’t dare, otherwise you’d not still be sparing my life. According to what you said, I would have been turned into a sieve while I was still unconscious earlier. Don’t tell me you have a kind heart; would you be soft on me if you didn’t have an ulterior motive?”
Muniang choked for a moment; he was quite accurate in his assessment. When she had pulled him down earlier, her primary objective was to have him help her back up. The river’s current was ridiculously strong; who knew where it would have carried her? The place was completely unrecognizable; even if Yu Ze wanted to find her, it would likely have been difficult. However, Nangong Qian must have had a secret signal to meet up with his subordinates, just like Yu Ze’s Hidden Guard had signal fireworks. With such a beacon, it wouldn’t be hard to find a way out.
As Muniang watched Nangong Qian’s smug look as if he had seen through everything, she snorted coldly: “What about you? When we were being swept away in the river, I clung to you for dear life, yet you never tried to slap me away. You had the strength then, didn’t you?”
Nangong Qian was stunned, not expecting Muniang to ask such a question. Why, indeed? He had thought about letting her fend for herself in the river, but he hadn’t, perhaps out of pity.
When Muniang deceitfully dragged him off the cliff, his heart was filled mostly with fury, but also with much surprise. Such a woman, capable of outwitting him, would be a loss if she simply died. For reasons unknown, at that moment when they leaped off the cliff, he suddenly wanted her to live.
Seeing Nangong Qian’s stunned reaction, Muniang started to laugh arrogantly: “You don’t dare kill me, afraid that Yu Ze will retaliate, right? If you guys really wanted to kill me, you would have acted by now. You aim to plot against Yu Ze, but you’re afraid to offend him too much—such a contradictory mindset is truly pitiable.”
Nangong Qian let out a cold laugh: “I’m afraid of him?”
Although he indeed initially didn’t intend to directly kill Qiao Muniang—without her, what could he use to delay Yu Ze from going to the border?—but now that Qiao Muniang had fallen from the cliff, whether she was dead or alive hardly mattered. Yu Ze would turn over every stone to find her regardless.
“Yes, you’re afraid of him,” Muniang glared at him defiantly.
“One day I’ll show you just how little I fear him,” Nangong Qian gritted his teeth.
Muniang did not take his words to heart then, but only in hindsight did she realize what an obvious omen it had been.
Seeing Muniang ignore him, Nangong Qian felt unbearably humiliated. After all, he was a prince; who dared to treat him like this?
Muniang raised an eyebrow and said, “But in the river, even if you really wanted to shake me off, it wouldn’t have worked. I still had two more crossbow bolts here. Do you think I’d let you happily survive on your own?”
Nangong Qian was so angry that his veins throbbed.
“Pull out the arrow!” Nangong Qian commanded coldly.
“No!” Muniang was even colder.
“Fine, then we might as well die together. We’ve been washed away by the river for most of the day, and have no idea where we’ve been taken. If I don’t send out a signal to the outside world, you’ll die without a hope of being found.”
Muniang hurled a wild fruit at Nangong Qian. He dodged to the side, glaring at her, “Are you even a woman?!”
Muniang glared back, “Is that any of your business?”
Despite her words, she still walked towards Nangong Qian. Clearly, his threat had had an effect.
Muniang tore a piece of fabric from the hem of her skirt to cover her hand, to avoid getting splattered in the face with blood when she pulled out the arrow. Then, without saying a word, she briskly pulled out the arrow, causing Nangong Qian to grunt in pain. Clearly it hurt terribly, but he stubbornly refused to cry out.
Muniang glanced at him and tossed the arrow to the ground, “Suffering just for the sake of pride.”
She didn’t know who it was that had silently endured the pain before, and Muniang had felt terribly sorry then. Indeed, the same person would have different fates.
Nangong Qian’s face turned the color of pig liver. Could this woman not keep silent and just die?!
“Put medicine on it!” Nangong Qian, gritting his teeth, threw the golden sore medicine he carried with him at her.
Muniang pulled open his clothes on the right shoulder, sprinkled the medicine on the fierce wound, and then quickly tore a large piece of cloth from Nangong Qian’s clothes to wrap around the wound. Her hand was neither gentle nor careful as she hastily bandaged it up.
Nangong Qian took several deep breaths to suppress the urge to curse out loud. He was now filled with regret, yes, massive regret, for not just drowning this woman in the river when he had the chance!
Muniang tossed him two wild fruits, “Here, eat something first. Otherwise, you’ll either die of blood loss or starvation.” Nangong Qian indeed had lost a lot of blood by now, his face devoid of any color, deathly pale.
Nangong Qian took them, “Still some humanity in you.”
Only then did Muniang say, “Aren’t you going to send the signal quickly? Where is it? If you don’t take it out now, believe it or not, I’ll search you.”
“Even if you search and find it, it’s useless. No one but me knows how to use it. Just behave and gather some firewood to make a fire, otherwise, we are going to freeze to death here.”
Muniang gritted her teeth and glared at him. Looking up, she saw the sky had darkened quite a bit. Out here in the wilderness, not making a fire at night would indeed mean freezing to death, especially since her clothes were still drenched through.
Muniang went to gather firewood and also picked quite a few mushrooms, using her clothes to hold them. They could be skewered with bamboo sticks and roasted; just eating those wild fruits wouldn’t be filling enough. But just then, she spotted a wild rabbit darting past her. Muniang’s eyes lit up; it seemed they would have meat for dinner. She dropped the firewood and mushrooms and went after the rabbit.
It took her over an hour to return, carrying a stack of firewood and bearing a bloody rabbit.
Nangong Qian, who had been anxiously waiting, thought she had run into trouble. He immediately cursed, “What took you so long, got eaten by a wild beast?!”
