Chapter 948: [948] The strength of an ox took effect

The mid-afternoon was the hottest time of the day, and the sun pouring in through the taxi window turned the driver’s seat into a virtual barbecue grill.

Passengers in the car could hide from the sun and fan themselves with whatever they had, but the driver, with his hands on the steering wheel, had nowhere to hide.

Sweat dripped down from the driver’s head like a waterfall. When he stopped at a red light at the intersection, he reached for his water bottle. His hand, perhaps too sweaty, trembled and failed to grasp it.

The honking of horns from the cars behind urged the driver in front to move.

"Driver, you can just pull over," Xie Wanying immediately said.

"Yes, yes, just pull over," Teacher Lu echoed.

They decided to walk the extra distance, letting the driver have some time to rest or fix his car.

The driver glanced at them gratefully, drove through the intersection, and pulled over to the side of the road.

The three of them hurriedly got out of the taxi.

The driver turned the wheel, about to drive off, when suddenly he felt an intense pain within his body, and with a thud, he collapsed halfway over the steering wheel.

The three who had gotten out heard a sudden screech of brakes and turned their heads in unison.

"Oh no, something’s happened!" Teacher Lu exclaimed.

"Yingying—," Li Xiaobing only saw her junior dart past her at a speed like a jet plane, she gasped in a lower voice, startled.

Rushing to the side of the taxi, Xie Wanying quickly opened the door, lifted the upper body of the driver leaning forward back into the seat, and promptly checked the patient’s condition.

Pulse, too fast, definitely over 100. Body temperature, extremely high to the touch. Skin somewhat dry, the sweat from before now feeling very sticky. Breathing, 24 breaths per minute.

Facial expression, contorted with pain, complexion pale, the patient was clutching his upper abdomen, about to vomit.

The preliminary assessment was heatstroke syndrome, likely a sudden bout of heat cramps accompanied by abdominal pain.

The first course of action was to immediately remove the patient from the high-temperature environment to cool down; this was of the utmost urgency.

Without a second word, Xie Wanying gripped the driver’s arms from under the armpits, preparing to drag him out of the car.

Teacher Lu and Li Xiaobing, seeing this, cried out, "You can’t do it alone!"

The driver was on the heavy side, likely weighing around 165 to 175 pounds, while Xie Wanying wasn’t much heavier herself. It was like a small animal trying to move an elephant alone, wishful thinking.

Whether it’s possible or not, you’ll only know if you try. Xie Wanying pulled with all her might, and the driver was dragged out of the door from the driver’s seat.

Teacher Lu and Li Xiaobing were shocked by her extraordinary strength, suddenly not knowing what to say.

Here was a driver that even a man may have trouble moving, yet Xie Wanying managed to pull him out by herself.

Then, the other two snapped out of it and hurriedly helped, each lifting one of the driver’s legs.

A pregnant woman and an elderly person offered to help, but Xie Wanying dared not let them exert themselves, taking most of the driver’s weight upon herself.

The three of them, with great difficulty, managed to carry the hefty man to a cooler spot in the shade under a roadside tree.

"Get water, get water," Teacher Lu said as she rushed back to the car to grab the bottled water from inside.

Li Xiaobing pulled out tissues to swiftly wipe the patient’s sweat.

Xie Wanying unbuttoned the patient’s clothes, removed his socks and shoes to let them breathe, then took the water Teacher Lu brought, unscrewed the cap, and poured it over the patient’s forehead to try to bring down the temperature. The main reason was that there were no ice cubes on the scene; the coldest thing available was the water.

All three took out notebooks from their bags and fanned vigorously to cool the patient down.
